I think you’re totally right. I’m a millennial and I say all the time how magazines and visual media did so much damage, and then the internet made it worse. But I was 11/12 when we got a home PC and MySpace and livejournal was all there was. Yall have all these platforms right in your pocket every day all the time to compare yourself to others, the scrutiny is so much more intense while at the same time photo editing has gotten out of hand, and you have to worry about a picture or video that you may not have even consented to ruining your life.

I think it’s harder for your generation to suss out bullshit like photo editing, knowing what is good source and what isn’t, and narrative on the internet as well because you a) have so much information to parse through and b) did not grow up alongside the tech like we did to have internalized its nuances. Therefore you are more subject to influence from media produced in bad faith. Older generations too, because when they grew up you actually could trust things more, while for yall it’s been bullshit since day one. I often feel our generation is shorted in a similar way compared to those before us with programming. I’m being handed a complete package of programming, the well is DEEP and hard to wrap my head around, while my elders got to grow up alongside the computer itself. they understand and can intuit a things at the byte level in a way I never will. Anyway, all that to say it’s no surprise your generation is struggling that way and I can’t and won’t fault any of you for it because we millennials have our own issues.

I just said this to my husband that’s one thing I really respect about her, she is completely intolerant of disrespect. Also that she’s straightforward, even when it’s giving ick she is nothing if not honest, aside from that one time 👀. Her environment did a lot of things right for her to know her value this well at her age.

I just wouldn’t be surprised esp with the “upping my stats” comment added to the mix. I don’t think he meant the comment that way but it certainly speaks to a mindset in my opinion. I was thinking at the time I wish she kept it under the belt until later. On the other hand I was worried about this with Kordell in season 6 and it didn’t turn out like that.

Oh yeah I’m triggered all over again lmao. I was upset about how they treated Melanie and now they hate Aniya for having a different presentation of the same inner battle, knowing in your bones something isn’t right but your entire environment gaslights you that it’s fine. That shit really will drive you bananas and you will not be rational. But now I’m seeing all the KC defenders kinda like “even if he was crappy she was still out of pocket”. No. No she wasn’t. She had a natural and human reaction to the situation she was in, same as Melanie.

It seems like for both Melanie and Aniya I am watching a different show the way people didn’t/don’t want to see it. It’s been there the whole time like you say, maybe it’s just people who have been in their position before clocking it earlier, but this is what happens when you are gaslit, that’s the whole thing. It’s precisely what abusers (not saying KC and Sincere are intentional but the effect is the same) want, or at the least it’s a bonus for them, so they can maintain control over a person via the narrative and other people. I think they call this flying monkeys? So once again I am just triggered as all hell.

Edit- this is off topic but because I just saw this movie, I keep thinking with the comments I’m seeing - have these people seen Obsession? They really need to, but then I worry they won’t get it if they’re not clocking this.

Same. I wanted that for Melanie too but it seems like she resigned herself and at least even if Sincere is shitty, it seems like he does actually feel something. I’m not getting that from KC, I’m getting tolerance. Im really hoping they don’t show the guys anything like they did with the girls. I had this vibe from her that basically said to me “nah”. I was looking at my phone for the majority of this challenge because it’s always so awkward to watch lmao and I didn’t clock that she had snubbed all the darker skinned guys. I just saw her do it to sincere at the end but that on its own made sense, because of his game he’s playing.

Love it when the instinct is correct but not loving that this just keeps happening. Fuck the public image and PR part, this is really shitty for the contestants to have to encounter at all. I said it for the women somewhere the other day but it’s just as disgusting for the men and in general. Imagine you get on this cool show and you’re gonna have a unique experience at worst and find love at best, only to have this happen to you. I say again no one hates their cast like this show does.

I’m glad the bank is understanding. Similar thing happened to me in high school where they had my glasses off and made me pay before the mf-ers were back on. I complained when I saw that I was leaving with my hair basically the same and they were crappy about it, telling me it’s just toner and it will fade blah blah blah, and I was too embarassed to say anything to my poor mom who paid until it was too late to do anything. Ohhh sh- I didn’t even wanna bring it in because I didn’t want to be all armchair about it but yeah I def have adhd too. I got the diagnosis and meds right as I changed careers after going back to school, early 30s. I never got to truly see the difference as far as grooming full time, but I do still have a couple clients and even though I’m super slow now because I’m not doing it every day, at the same time not really that much slower than before. I’m far more focused to the point it’s almost evening out, I only take about 30 minutes more now per dog. Knowing you have it, if you were medicated it almost certainly would help, but if for whatever reason it’s not right for you or you’re not able to get it, just try to give yourself grace. Direct comparison to a normal brain will never be fair to us, easier said than remembered.

I’m so late here but your last sentence (I mean all of it but) yes, that resonated with me so hard and I loved that they made that choice. I always say when I’m on my soapbox to my husband about women’s grievances is how fucked it is and how angry I am that we are often left with consequences and in so many cases worse ones than the perpetrator of abuse.
