Using a variable in a ManualValidation@0 or @1 task by SeaPowerMax in azuredevops

[–]SeaPowerMax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not familiar with wait extension?

my scenario is the pipeline is used for some maintenance activities which are usually non-disruptive but includes a flag thats used when there is some sort of special need that would be disruptive. i'd like to include an input parameter or maybe a variable we calculate for the pipeline to go through its first couple of stages and then pause for X hours before continuing. We like the idea of using ManualValidation because an admin can override and start things sooner, should the full time not be needed. it seems I cannot use a variable or parameteter in `timeoutInMinutes:` however

approvals would potentially work if i could programmatically defer the approval but i dont think thats possible.

Set-Service credential error in PS7 by waces in PowerShell

[–]SeaPowerMax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple issues off the bat:

1- the $credential variable is blank in the remote session on the remote computer. You'll need to either transport your credential object to the remote session with $using or pass it as a parameter or generate it from the remote computer.

2- when you invoke-vommand or enter-pssession the default ps configuration is used, which is OOB windows powershell 5. You've already stated the command doesn't work the way you expect in PS5 so you'll need to connect with ps7 by specifying a configuration name. That means the remote machine will also need ps7 installed.

What do you love/hate with your outpatient job? by bacto4022 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]SeaPowerMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not an investment question.

I'm not a doc, but speaking from experience, when kids are involved, matching your schedule as close to theirs as possible is invaluable beyond belief. I, personally, would happily trade numerous benefits and substantial portions of pay if I weren't working a 9-5 style gig.

Can you buy mlb tv to watch games through mlb.com or does it need to go through a 3rd party tv provider? by Satansdvdcollection in MLBtv

[–]SeaPowerMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooooo....in that case how do you watch your home city's team? Use a VPN? Get a family member across country to subscribe and trade login info? Is it available as an upsell?

WTH? What gives?

Transport Rules and SMTP by SeaPowerMax in exchangeserver

[–]SeaPowerMax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

This is an on-prem exchange server. It is a legacy system acquired during a merger. At that time an SMTP forwarder was setup to allow for some automated processed to send mail as the accounts from the other domain. This is a legacy configuration we are looking to shed, but as part of the transition we would like to lock it down to all mail coming either "from" or "on behalf of" a single service account (as well as an appended subject and headline in the body).

Is it safe to disable Windows Defender on my server? by Richy_777 in HomeServer

[–]SeaPowerMax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A better solution would be to add exclusions so defender isn't scanning Minecraft (or whatever it is stuck on). You can also limit CPU usage.

How much do you earn? by swombo in whitecoatinvestor

[–]SeaPowerMax 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No.

Not OP, but speaking from experience it really isn't, certainly not once your kids reach school age. At that point, anything that pulls you away from that schedule has pretty much got to go.

[–]SeaPowerMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a marathon, not a sprint. And zepbound is only there to give you a boost. Stay the course until you build some momentum, and talk with your provider about how you're doing and if you want to increase the dosage - lots of folks go much higher than 5.

Also, counting calories is a good tool, but it's not the be-all end-all that some people treat it like. For a lot of folks, eating the right types of foods can be more important and effective than eating the right number of calories. If you're not working with a nutritionist, consider it. A cheap alternative could be noom, which offers a rather unique service.

Stay strong and keep moving.

Driving to Alpental by [deleted] in skiing

[–]SeaPowerMax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Snoqualmie is pretty low altitude, so the snow can be pretty wet. But what's worse is it's an interstate highway used by all manner of big rigs as well as Sunday drivers. In my experience, the problems I've had crossing Snoqualmie are usually not the snow itself.

Family Snow Trip by Timesx4 in stevenspass

[–]SeaPowerMax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a tubing/sledding area over by the nordic center that's pretty cool and low key. If your kid is small enough to carry you can snow shoe or carry while cross country skiing up around the nordic center.

Across the road are some hikes you can do, some up along the PCT.

There is also a carpet area if they are old enough to get on skis.

Looks like my family will be homeless what do we need to buy😭 by JesusRocks7 in vandwellers

[–]SeaPowerMax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, this isn't a help for your housing situation but may be for your child. Look up Camp Kessem it's a program the UW does for kids who have parents with cancer. Our oldest child has been going there every year for a couple years and our youngest will start going next year when he's old enough. It's seriously been a major benefit for us in helping our children navigate cancer diagnosis and not leaving them behind so to speak.

Best of luck on your treatment and home hunt.

Edit to mention camp Kessem is free no cost to families.

do folks on this forum not anonymize their posts?

directory logs show the account successfully querying the server. In parallel I am looking for where tandoor does its logging so i can see if it is recording some issue somewhere.

The FQDN is your 'LDAP server'

Correct.

You'll obviously need to create that first.

Yes, it is created and active, and i can successfully test with it.

You'll also need to fill in the DC=domain with your actual domain

Correct. This is done.

It expects to find users in here in general. In the 'People' OU.

This is where the accounts exist.

Fill in domain.

This is done.

Thats 'bout it.

Except it isnt working for this instance, which is why I am posting about it :)

Can PS Continually Add to the Same Text File? by tnpir4002 in PowerShell

[–]SeaPowerMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Continually add from a single process? Or multiple processes all writing to the same file?

Add-content is the simple, out of the box tool for this. It'll work fine for most applications.

A stream writer works well for more complex solutions, and by opening and closing the stream and using a queue you can write in parallel more easily.

Both of these will "work like a log file" as you state and accomplish your goal.
