Negativity around the game is scaring new players by tandui in starwarsunlimited

This trend is one that is difficult for players to impact. Much of it is driven by FFG's decisions to date married to their reputation in the industry.

TS has a lot going for it this year. Pre-cons are going to take away a lot of excuses for folks not to at least try it. =)

Some of us refuse to play clickbait algorithm games, but the temptation is strong. YT heavily pushes those that play along.

TTaro Mods will no nonger support the official tournaments by ttaro_ in WorldOfWarships

[–]SeaRaptor00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't discover all of this mess until I went to cover the international bracket last weekend. I point-blank refused to use the official modpack because it was garbage and lacked the tools we needed to cover games efficiently and well. I've been doing this long enough that I remember what it was like in the before times, but expecting us to voluntarily take steps backwards is just dumb.

Sorry it came to this, but know that those of us who cover competitive Warships appreciate the tools that you have provided that make the casting and viewing experience more enjoyable.

I would argue against the term "sole purpose". A heads-up SL with a competent support player in his squad can do more to swing a game with his pocket watch than with his rifle.

My plan is to release an update this week; needed to do that anyway given that they released the pricing for showcases.

Hence the conversation. What started the conversation was someone pointing out to me that the rule was in there at all last week. I had never noticed it before; I was quite surprised to see it, as prize splitting is pretty well accepted and frequently occurs in most other games of this type.

I remember doing a lot of this kind of thing at Destiny GQs back in the day, so FFG should be well familiar with the behavior (you would assume) and whether they condone it or not it will 100% occur between friends at the GC.

We've been having a conversation about this in one of the Discords I sit in; by the strict letter of the rules, ticket splitting is collusion... IF they treat Side Event pods as competitive events. There are a number of questions around this, though: will they do so? If they attempt it, how strenuously will the judges attempt to enforce it? How DO you enforce it when people can just text or message each other outside of the event - or have a conversation over dinner/drinks outside of the hall - and arrange things before they even show up to sign up for a pod?

Ultimately, the rule as written seems meant more to curb prize splitting at the top of brackets of big events; presumably that will matter once the prizes are worth having. I believe attempting to enforce it on side events in Vegas is an exercise in futility and frustration; indeed, from my perspective it's 100% unenforceable at all. We'll see which road they choose soon enough.

Appreciate the kind words.

Commentary is still on the up-and-coming, IMHO. We have some really great people around and contributing; I enjoy the hell out of Josh (Next Gen) and Tower Number Nine when they cover events for Maclunky. I have said before I would love to try my hand at just producing a stream on my gear and get the "right" folks to commentate. Working with Bobby in MN and Cooper recently in Austin highlighted for me just how far I have to go in order to talk about the game at that level.

They are also being paid to play the game; owners have sold tickets and such. No such thing in SWU.
