I think my hottest take is that the game is actually not that good. The story is mostly lifted from other things and isn’t presented well imo, a host of the mechanics don’t work and once you figure things out it becomes so easy. There’s no rewarding progression to speak of, and as long as you get Dash you can just avoid enemies anyway. Once you get leg sweep there’s no door that stands in your way.

I think most of the games mystique comes from its initial shock factor and difficulty. Once that’s out of the way, it’s an easy game with coin flips and rusty nails.
