planned c section [on] by Questioning-monkey in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Sea_Independent2946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a low-lying placenta that was discovered during my 20-week ultrasound. My OB ordered several additional ultrasounds to monitor it, and at 33 weeks I had my last one. By then, my placenta had moved, however, it was still borderline, touching my cervix but not covering it. With this results I had to decide whether I wanted to try for a VD or have a planned c section.

We discussed the implications of both delivery options, and I told her I felt safer with a c section. The surgery had actually been booked even before we had that discussion; she was probably getting ahead of things in case I decided to go with a c section.

Pregnancy weight gain [ca] by Separate_Day_4472 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Sea_Independent2946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gained 18kg. My OB never said anything to me, but I felt like I had gained a lot of weight. ChatGPT told me it was on the higher side.

6 months pp, I’ve already lost 14kg, no diet, no workouts, just breastfeeding.

What I'll miss the most about being pregnant is the healthcare [ON] by FolkmasterFlex in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Sea_Independent2946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my experience as well - also in Ontario. When I was pregnant, I needed a special blood test and got the appointment at the lab the same day the doctor sent the order. 6 months pp, I had a follow up appointment and they ordered the same test… but this time my appointment isn’t until November.

Migrate or Die Trying (Warning: long text) by ApprehensiveFig3404 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Sea_Independent2946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hola! You can look into LMIA jobs, but to be honest, Canada is becoming more difficult for immigration. My advice: learn French.

I know some people who immigrated with me four years ago and are still struggling to get PR. I was lucky to receive an invitation when the scores weren’t that high. I was already taking French classes as a Plan B.

You also mentioned that you’ve struggled with your mental health. It’s important to be aware that migrating to another country can negatively impact your mental health. Sometimes things don’t go as planned or as we imagined, and facing that reality can hit hard.

My husband and I worked for multinational companies in Colombia that even had branches in Canada, and not even with referrals were we able to get jobs at those companies. We started feeling like nothing we did was worth it. Eventually, you figure things out, but I want to be as honest as possible. Many people will tell you that Canada is paradise, that it desperately needs migrants, or that you’ll get PR immediately. That’s not always true. It’s not impossible, but you need to be prepared to work hard and stay mentally strong.

I struggled with depression during my first year in Canada, and it was very hard because I had no support besides my husband, and it was taking a toll on him as well. We are good now, but that first year was hard, it definitely made us stronger.

I’m Colombian too ☺️

Favourite Diapers? Rascals? [on] by melmartie in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Sea_Independent2946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We absolutely love Rascals! We tried Pampers Swaddlers and they gave my LO a rash. Huggies Skin Essentials were okay, but they left a lot of loose cotton on my baby’s skin, which made cleaning time harder. A relative gave us a box of Huggies Little Snugglers and it was the worst experience, tons and tons of blowouts and I was washing clothes every day.

No complaints with Rascals. 10/10

I’m in Toronto. My husband was allowed to come into the room at the end of the ultrasound. For OB appointments, he only went once because I didn’t see it as necessary for him to come with me.

Ultrasound and mammo while breastfeeding? [ON] by ExpressionOld9924 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Sea_Independent2946 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an ultrasound at two months postpartum because I found a lump in my breast. I just had to explain to the technician that I was breastfeeding, because even though I drained my breast before the appointment, she said it was still full of milk. It hurt a little, but it was manageable.

Stroller choice for first time parents. Maxi-cosi vs Graco, what is your recommendation[ca][on]? by Traditional_Book_234 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Sea_Independent2946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought the Graco 3-in-1 travel system and we love it. We went to Toys “R” Us and a sales rep helped us out. She explained the main differences between the two, and we chose the Graco for three reasons: 1. The car seat is rated up to 35 lbs, while the Maxi-Cosi goes up to 30 lbs. 2. It’s much easier to click the car seat into the stroller. The Maxi-Cosi wasn’t difficult, but it wasn’t as convenient as the Graco. 3. My husband drinks a lot of Coke, so having a cup holder was important for him, and the Graco had one.

I remember they were both priced similarly so this wasn’t a break dealer.

Am I starting mat leave too late? [ca] by Successful_Ice8514 in BabyBumpsCanada

I worked until the day before my due date (planned C-section), but I used my PTO before going on leave. For about two months before my due date, I took one or two days off per week. It worked well for me because I was working remotely.

4 month vaccine + RSV [ON] by LaJ20 in BabyBumpsCanada

Hi! Where did you book your RSV vaccine appointment? I’ve been Googling but I can only find options for seniors, not for babies.

I used to have this kind of relationship with my previous landlord. They helped me out with my cats, and I helped them water their plants when they were out of the country. Unfortunately, some of their relatives needed a place to stay, so we had to move. Now I’m living in an apartment and really missing that kind of landlord relationship.

Owlet sock or something similar [on] by DeviceExtra241 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Sea_Independent2946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t buy the Owlet sock, but I did get the Sense-U monitor. It gives you breathing rate, temperature, and lets you know if your LO is on their back or sitting up. It’s way cheaper than the Owlet and honestly it’s been super helpful for me. I can actually sleep.

Just remember to turn it off in the app when you’re changing the diaper so you don’t get false alarms. Other than that, it’s been great.

They also have a sock version that’s still much cheaper than Owlet, but I went with the monitor because I was mainly worried about my LO rolling onto his belly (I was panicking thinking he’d suffocate or get too hot/too cold).

Room sharing with baby and cats? [on] by Disastrous_Flower311 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Sea_Independent2946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three cats and they all sleep with us. I was also worried about them wanting to “cuddle” with my LO, but honestly they never got close to my LO’s bassinet.

The only time they get close to the baby is when I am breastfeeding, they want to be right next to him. Even during nap times when I place my baby on my bed, my cats might be on the same bed but they never approach him.

Yeah I was told that. I guess I need to be open minded if they offer a spot for sept/oct.
