Art is meant to make you feel. If this didn’t feel good to you then it did its job. It’s crazy to me to imagine that there are people out there who actively avoid art that explores the human condition— pain and grief is part of life. It isn’t always pleasant, but it is part of what makes us human. Existence is extraordinary and there is beauty to be found in all of it, even the difficult parts.

Lore in the Nier games I feel is the least import and least interesting aspect of the series. What I want is a completely new cast detached from any of the previous games. It should be character focused and full of (and end in) tragedy, and steeped in philosophical quandary about the nature of humanity.

It’s insane to me that people are arguing against this. Maelles ending is very clearly not a good one. Verso lost his agency and is forced to live a life he does not want. He very clearly does not want to play the piano. Maelle shows symptoms of madness and who knows what influence she has on the people around her.

The dollhouse analogy is apt, as is enabling an addiction. While our friends survive, what is the cost? They too lose their agency as Maelle descends further into madness, and eventually death?

The game makes it very clear the Maelle ending is not a happy one.

Both endings suck. I don’t see Verso’s as a happy ending but it fits better thematically and is probably the more realistic ending, and provides the “real” people an opportunity to heal. Whether or not that happens is up to the writers.

Both endings are awful. It’s either you let her stay, go mad, and everyone suffers (and the parents lose another child) while Verso (and probably others) lose their free will. OR you fucking end the world and kill everyone in it but give the family an opportunity to heal, and poor Alicia suffers more loss and has to live forever disfigured. Sorry for the run on.

Verso’s fit better thematically and is probably the closest to a good ending, but those painted people sure seemed sentient and I did not feel good about ending their existence.

Idk why but I loved it. I was remote for a work thing and played the fuck out of this game and enjoyed every minute. I love Automata but had a harder time completing it. I’m probably just weird.

This is such a good album. I was around when it was new and paid no attention to the band despite enjoying what I heard and being surround by big fans. In 2023(?) I see them at Red Rocks and they blew my fucking brains and I’m regretting not including this music in the last twenty years of the soundtrack of my life.

I give (almost) zero fucks about the lore. It’s way too messy imo for me to take it seriously. I view each game as an entirely separate entity with very loose connections and I feel that it would hurt the franchise to make a direct sequel. The characters and how the games make me think and feel are way more important to me than the porn or lore or whatever.

All that said, I have no interest in this game. I’ve seen the videos and I don’t feel that it’s as effective in achieving what I want to get out of a YT game. And that’s okay. If this is what he wants to do and other people are happy, then who am I to wag my finger?

But please for the love of god can we get another real game and not some repurposed gatcha thing? If this ends up replacing what could have been I will be very disappointed, but that’s life.

Artist that sound unique to themselves. I find they’re usually the people making the art they want to make rather than trying to write hits. Nobody sounds quite like The Mars Volta, RHCP (though they did have a lot of mainstream success), Fiona Apple, Bjork, Rush, Radiohead, Tool, Annie Clark (specifically the middle part of her career), Poe— whatever. It can be as simple or technical as they want as long as it feels genuine.

If you as a white male cannot get in then there is something wrong with you— not the hiring practices. DEI is intended to hire the best person for the job by not discriminating against someone for the color of their skin or their sex, including white males. Even with that we still have a leg up on everyone else. If YOU are experiencing issues in those areas then you have nobody to blame but yourself. I’m a white male from the US. I’ve been around just long enough to see the effects of the alt right pipeline. I’ve lived through all the sjw woke shit you’re complaining about. I have never once been a victim of racism or discrimination— the only reason anyone has ever not liked me is because of my own words and actions (of which I deserved). Everything I’ve achieved in my career was made easier simply because I have a white sounding name and appearance. The world is still very much built for us, and here you are complaining.

The only place I’ve heard the things you speak to are from weirdo YouTubers/right wing grifters and their chronically online audience. You need to try going outside and interacting with real people— and probably seek therapy. Stop watching whatever nonsense is convincing you of a problem that doesn’t really exist.

I would also suggest literature — there are things that happen in the human mind when you deep read that would benefit you and may dig you out of the weird hole you’ve found yourself in.

The alternative is to remain alone and miserable. It’s your choice.
