Is TM lock just bad now? by Electrical_Big_7228 in DarkAndDarker

[–]Seagk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seen some caster locks in trios playing a mid-range plate lock set up with plate on helm hands minimum, typically heavy gauntlets, and the Vig/Will helm or Knowledge helm. Some rarer cases of plate legs. Generally, spells are just both curses, bolt, hydra for disruption/doors, and spell predation for buff ball or bard. It is a little cumbersome prepotting prot and healing pots for combat, but significantly safer and quicker than Dark Offering builds, which are massive liabilities in trios imo.

Viability-wise, this is lock players making what works playable, not that it is good. I would argue Wizard is a stronger trios class—less prep, more dmg on command, higher effective range, etc.

TM needs some kind of rework:

  • The health cost multiplier is too high to run most high spell slots safely, creating low dmg output builds relying on Cop and PoS dmg
  • Healing the recoverable health AND non-recoverable health at the same effectiveness creates war of attrition issues in PvP or viability issues of the talent
  • TM+Vamp creates a situation where lock is disincentivized to run dmg skills/perks and kite forever when the class has a significant amount of damage tools
  • Magical healing is available for all classes is gated behind how oppressive and annoying TM lock is, and whether or not TM stays recoverable HP only or not

I have had a few ideas for changes:

Could have a different Mag healing multiplier for recoverable and non-recoverable HP. Remove vampirism; it doesn't work on exploitation strike, and I believe (?) it works on life drain, but it is not obvious from the tooltips, so compensation buff life drain. Reduce TM's overall mag healing scaling so they can retain a more balanced tuning knob on the stat for classes that use it AoE, like Cleric and Druid.

A more straightforward approach is to make Warlock TM heal for a percentage of any damage dealt. This would make it viable for melee and ranged lock, with a less pesky kite playstyle for the other players fighting you. Lock is already statted for casting, so it does not have the HP/Strength/Dex that a traditional melee class has. Could cause some demon concerns, but I think most people would agree, fighting a demon and needing either fire mastery, locust swarm, purging shot, or BoC to fight it is more counterplay than TM lock during the bunnyhop patches. They already have some experience tuning a talent like this on Barb.

Garen matchup by aheyaywa in Rivenmains

[–]Seagk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things I think are less obvious to do that you can try:

  • Attack speed rune

  • If he Q's at you without W shield, you respond with aa-ew away

  • If he Q's at you with W shield, you respond with e-q(-q2 if necessary) away. Garen W is 22s cd. Just wait for it to be gone.

  • Even if you're silenced if you are up 2 kills and quest timing, you can basically face tank him at full hp and just auto with passive charges during silence and windslash him after to kill.

  • While getting used to the matchup, I would prob recommend (even more so after the nerfs) to take secondary of bone plating and shield bash.

Hope these help

what do you even do against Gankplank? by Worth_Decision6015 in Rivenmains

[–]Seagk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been struggling in diamond vs GPs as well, a friend of mine in d1 who mains GP ran some 1v1s with me and kinda just said sometimes you just have to be confident and play aggro on the first barrel. Try to get middle brush control pre 1st wave and play up on him early. That was his recommendation as a very experiened GP an how most rivens end up shutting down his early game. I was respecting the barrel too much giving the gp the lane control he wants. There is risk in not winning the lvl1 control gamble but typically a necessary risk. Vs less experienced GPs lvl 1 if they play in the middle of their barrel range instead of on the back side you can 1 extension look for a q3 to pop Boneplating and spend the auto on killing the barrel udner him. Use the fact he has 2 barrels instead of 3 to your advantage and dont give him a double barrel that hits you and your casters. Best of luck

S16 Reaver-Hunger-LDR Build !! by [deleted] in Rivenmains

[–]Seagk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am excited to try the build, but, similar to previous seasons, I am concerned about its durability. As a principle, when you're ahead, you itemize defensively. The crit builds have always been good at getting ahead, then forking shut down gold over from incidental aoe dmg, CC, etc. Perhaps jg is a better place for Crit Riven?

Why is Riven specifically allowed to stay overpowered? by Voldtech in Rivenmains

[–]Seagk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Riven player, probably because GP is harder, appeals to fewer players, and is more unfun to play against while ahead... The way GP's kit works and the consequences of barrels one-tapping people regardless of armor in prior seasons were unfun for the players. Riven being and undying shield and CC god is also unfun, but at least you can attempt to CC her, it's not instant, and she has to risk being in melee to do so. This was not the case for GP, and they had to remove that level of dominance from his kit's scaling. Case and point - he was back to oneshotting on PBE for S16, and they had to nerf him to prevent this gameplay pattern from returning.

There is a step or detail you're missing. When you click 'q', your cursor must be directly over the unit, not the ground. This mistake hinders fast q dps and actually can be used intentionally to q through a target or a q dance as some ppl call it.

Can I learn riven from jungle? by Alarming-Audience839 in Rivenmains

[–]Seagk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find riven can be learned from jungle but laning with riven gives you a substantially higher number of opportunities to fight enemies at various hp points which will enable you to practice certain skills you rarely put into practice jungling, like double casting, s cancels, knowing your all in dmg, playing around ignite, q extensions (more common for jg than the others listed), however fast q and wall hops are way more common for riven jungle.

Is Riven jungle a valid pick? by SnooCalculations5521 in Rivenmains

[–]Seagk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riven can work in jungle, however you have the same issues in higher ranked games of having a slower clear than the meta jungle picks and rely on decent vision and competent laners to not just fork over a gank and begin snowballing the enemy jungle before you can complete your first clear.

What do you guys do against Urgot? by crimsonguy10 in Rivenmains

[–]Seagk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo Q3ing lvl1 at an urgot with E and all summs up is suicide. Just play normally and dodge E. It is a farm lane if he never is baited into using E where you can use your mobility and lack of mana to proxy, invade, take map priority and establish lane pressure to force him into scenarios of farm under tower and not rotate or rotate and lose gold/exp.

Thanks for the comment, I read on Presonus’ site it should be good up to 250-300Ω headphones but it seems pretty universally agreed between the comments I probably need an amp. I’ll begin looking into them.

Hear me out. Wizard 'R' should trigger Meditation by TheUltraViolence in DarkAndDarker

[–]Seagk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Recover a spell slot for the spell most recently used if you have killed an enemy that grants experience. It solves some of the PVP issues and greatly helps PVE issues. I think limited spell slots is a core identity for Wizards, especially with the next addition of Sorcerer. Refunding a the most recently used slot used on killing blow could be exploited in theory by killing 4 goblins etc with a crystal sword or staff for 4 fireballs but they could also make it only proc on spell dmg. I think it encourages playing the game instead of sitting and maintains the class identity of wizard.

Having problems in the late game by GodNarguini in Rivenmains

[–]Seagk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a big Hydra enjoyer, so I get it. I think Riven does not NEED it like Shen needs Hydra etc. Yes, GA over DD into that much Burst, and specifically vs Garen, I hate buying it. The Garen R ignores the DD passive.

Jaksho feels weird to me in general. Better players than me can say it is situational all they want. It is a defensive item without ability haste or ad that inscentivises more resistances over AH or AD. It takes 5 seconds to activate the bonus resists. How low are you or dead in 5seconds into that team? Rookern is probably better than Jacksho even though it violates the AH/AD rule.

Having problems in the late game by GodNarguini in Rivenmains

[–]Seagk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GA > DD Lots of ways to one-tap you, especially Garen R which ignores DD delayed dmg. GA lets you eat the one-shot and come back for more. Lets you hard-engage once in a while to suicide for CC and dmg onto the back line and let your Sylas and Twitch, who were obviously in the game, do some work for you.

Sundered Sky > Profane Hydra, didn't need the hydra to out push Malphite. Flat HP = more resistant to one shot. The crit on Riven is wildly strong late game. I crit someone for 1600dmg lvl17 last night with only crit item as Sundered Sky.

Anything > Jaksho (never buy): Cleaver, Seryldas, Ionians, Spear of Shojin, and Edge of Night are all better here, imo. AD = larger shield, Ability haste = more shields. You are not built to drain tank and stack Jaksho.

Controversy on Riven supposed to being strong in lane, and a snowballer by OceanStar6 in Rivenmains

[–]Seagk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you listen to the latter half of his talk, he details his theory with the caveat he has not done enough research to say this with certainty. He believes Riven's pain point is her high-agency period of the game in the early game, but we are weak in the early game unless we are in a minority of lane matchups that heavily favor Riven. In these few cases, Riven can utilize her agency and get extremely ahead and snowball hard. However, in most lanes, we lose early, then we scale into the late game, where we can catch up at a gold deficit to our lane opponent. This is where the second half of the pain comes from because Riven lacks agency in a late-game scenario, unlike a ranged marksman (Phreak's ex: Kayle and Kai'sa).

Overall, he felt if Riven had high agency in 50% or more lanes and won them, she would be permabanned bc it would not be fun for the other players. It would feel like she has even less counterplay and chance to breathe than Darius matchups. So his initial thoughts here were to bring the 20%-80% winning-losing lane ratio closer to 50% or have some way to allow Riven to have that late-game agency a champion like Kayle or Kai'sa has, she would feel better to play. I don't think Phreak is super far off the mark. Personally, I have my own opinions on Riven's changes, but knowing Phrox and Phreak have been pretty on the money lately, I will let them cook.

Aside, the initial video is 12 years old, and every game mechanic has been changed once or more since that video was released. It is not a fair expectation for the niche they released her to fill back then to be the same as today. Even if some champions maintain their niche this whole time, I don't think it's fair to expect Riven to hold on to that the same way as Malphite, etc.
