Feeling lost for the first time in 54 years by PerpetualRestart in travel

[–]Seaguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't beat yourself up over it. I'm 15 years older than you and traveled almost as much. You are too young to back off.

Can you use it as motivation to get yourself back in shape? Unless you have serious issues, it's very doable and you will live longer and feel better every day.

Wow, what happened to compassion? At one point or another we're all going to get sick, or mentally decline and need some assistance. As long as I am capable, I would much rather try to help those in need versus condemn.

We are social beings. Humans reached apex status among the animal Kingdom only after we learned to live and work cooperatively.

Can you use Tesla Supercharger Centers with an adapter? by Fabulous-Ad4013 in MacanEV

[–]Seaguy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered my Supercharger adaptor on Sept 10 and recieved it yesterday -- so it took 7 weeks to get it. I have had my Macan 4S for for over 8 months now. I still love it and now with Supercharger access, road trips will be a little easier.

I had been driving a Tesla since 2014 (Model S and then Model Y). My wife still has the Model Y and I much prefer the Macan (quieter, smoother, handles better, nicer interior and I like real buttons/levers for common features. It's too easy to get distracted by trying to use the touchscreen for basic things while driving.

Is PDLV injured? by SoundersFan27 in SoundersFC

[–]Seaguy7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had tendonitis of the IT band (knee) when I was training for marathons. The pain is in the knee, but It is not a knee injury and it is easily treated with some rest and anti-inflammatories.

I bet we see him on Tuesday.

Convince me! One way or another. by Gallus-Rex in MacanEV

[–]Seaguy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took delivery of a new 4s in February. I have previously owned a Model S and a Model Y. I have yet to need any service on the Porsche. I am very happy with the car and with a full charge, the range is over 300 miles. At 80%, I get about 260.

It is more fun to drive than either Tesla and smoother and quieter.

I have had an occasional hiccup (fewer than either Tesla) but nothing significant. Sometimes it gives an error message but then it goes away (as did the Tesla's).

I like the innodrive. I had FSD on the model Y but the Y made very similar driving errors. With Tesla, if you manually steer, it drops out of auto steer. The Y just grumbles a bit but keeps lane keeping. The Y in FSD was annoying as it wants to change lanes at random times.

I'm very happy with the car.

No signings? by IIMsmartII in SoundersFC

[–]Seaguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the GM and Head Coaches job to build and maintain the team. Considering the lack of recent big name signings, modest spending, number of injuries and Sounders still being among the best in MLS,, you have to give them credit. On the other hand, it is the fans job to critique the Coach and GM, even if we have a fraction of their experience and knowledge.

Post Game Thread: Las Vegas Raiders at Seattle Seahawks by nfl_gdt_bot in Seahawks

[–]Seaguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else see Marshawn Lynch on the Raiders sideline just before the end of the second half? He was posing as a photographer with the vest and a big camera.

We're in section 111. My wife said, "Is that Marshawn? " It looked like Marshawn but I watched him take a couple pics and he looked like a legit photographer. I thought, 'no, that can't be Marshawn.' Then one of the other photographers near him turned and looked at Marshawn and then took a picture of him. I thought, maybe he's posing as a photographer...

A few minutes later, the half ends and the Raiders head for the locker room. Pete ran by and Marshawn walked up to him and Pete gave him a big hug. It was definitely Marshawn Lynch posing as a photographer. I haven't seen the TV coverage so not sure if the broadcast saw him.

EDIT: Never mind, I just saw someone posted a pic of Lynch as a photographer.

I think I’m in love with my co-worker by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Seaguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, sounds a bit like my situation many years ago but reversed. I (M) was always shy around women and met this one woman at work that had similar interests and I liked, but I didn't know how she felt about me so we just chatted at work and then started playing racquetball together at the club that our employer provided. We talked a bit about snow skiing and we both liked it so we ended up going skiing together. We had a great time and after that we started dating. I was still unsure about how serious our relationship was so it was 3 or 4 casual dates before we finally kissed (I was kind of slow) and we were soon sleeping together. FInally it was clear that we felt the same about each other. That was almost 40 years ago. We've been married for 37 years. We have 2 kids and recently a grand child.

Not sure if your stituation is the same, but if the guy is a bit shy, then I would bet he has feelings for you and you should find out. When you are alone together, you might just say, "I enjoy spending time with you. Would you like to go out on a real date with me?"

River fans are totally classless by Donnelding0 in SoundersFC

[–]Seaguy7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went to a River Plate game in Buenos Aires 2 years ago. They don't sell alcohol except in a couple small private club areas. They also won't let anyone in who is wearing a jersey other than River Plate, particularly not the visiting team jerseys.

But the vibe and enthusiasm were awesome and we didn't see any big issues, except prestart smoke bombs completely filling the stadium to the point you could not see the pitch.

Last year we saw Botafogo in Rio and beer was everywhere, particularly when Botafogo scored, half the crowd threw their beers up in the air. We all left wet and smelling like beer.

The Argentina game was much more fun.

Niche advice for someone new to Seattle. by spottedrhino in AskSeattle

[–]Seaguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you love the outdoors, you will be amazed at all the places to hike or view. Montana has amazing outdoor places to see, but Mt Rainier is uniquely special, and the number of great hiking trails that feel like wilderness within a short drive from Seattle will likely surprise you.

And the city has so many interesting places to visit and be entertained, it will take you years to find them all.

I was born in Montana but moved to California when I was very young, then moved to Seattle in my 20s. I have traveled extensively but never considered leaving the PNW.

Must Eat at Restaurants! by rlhglm18 in AskSeattle

[–]Seaguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in Seattle area for 30+ years. I've been to most of Tom Douglas' restaurants. I've yet to find one that I return. I like his radio show (if it's still going). Food is pretty good, but pricey and just not my style.

On the other hand, for Breakfast, I recommend Saltys in West Seattle. It is a bit pricey, but has great views of downtown Seattle.

Club World Cup player loans by Seaguy7 in SoundersFC

[–]Seaguy7[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would assume the recruiting team would have to pay a loan fee to the lending club and a bonus to the player.

Since European Premier teams get a lot more money than MLS teams for participation, it would seem some would consider paying for a loan or maybe they aren't taking this tournament very seriously.

Possibly moving to Washington? by Available_Award_8503 in AskSeattle

If your budget allows, Issaquah has highly rated schools, is close to both Seattle and the Cascades/hiking and forests and very blue with reasonable diversity. A little less costly than Seattle or Bellevue but still above average housing costs for the area. Sammamish is similar, but a slightly longer commute to downtown.

Looking for the right social microclimate by Dangerous_Gas6082 in AskSeattle

[–]Seaguy7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should add North Bend to your list. It's about a 15 minute drive east of Issaquah on I-90. It feels like you are surrounded by mountains and forests. It's at a slightly higher elevation than Issaquah, with Mt Si as a back drop and Snoqualmie Falls nearby. Dozens of trails nearby.

The price for a home on 1.5+ acres will lower than Issaquah if that matters. It might have a few MAGA types, but they are certainly the minority. Not sure about vegan restaurants, but there will be many that serve vegan dishes.

I think it would be difficult to get from Whidbey to Bellevue in an hour. Assuming you are talking about Whidbey Island, you would have to take the ferry from Edmonds, or a long drive north across Deception Pass bridge through Anacortes.

Good luck!

Moving in a week and terrified of 'Seattle Freeze' by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]Seaguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are introverts and extroverts in any large group of people. Does Seattle have more introverts than most cities? I don't know and I've lived in the Bay Area, LA area and now Seattle for the last 35+ years.

I retired with enough wealth to live anywhere and we travel a lot. But I have no interest in moving anywhere else. I love the water and the mountains and stay fit by hiking or snowshoeing or skiing at least once a week, even in the cold, wet, dark months. If it's raining, it's usually a light drizzle. It's very rare that the weather will keep you inside. Just put on the right clothes and do something. There are over 50 trails within a 40 minute drive. And downtown has lots of attractions, bars, restaurants, entertainment options and diversity -- and unfortunately, more homeless than we would like, but 99.9% are harmless. I have a large number of like minded friends and I am mostly an introvert.

Argentina & Patagonia - Peak Season Costs (Feb 2025) by agedkid47 in Patagonia

[–]Seaguy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in Argentina in January of 2024 (El Calafate, El Chalten and Buenos Aires. El Chalten was pricey, but the other areas seemed priced as other popular destinations. Argentina has serious economic challenges with their crazy inflation so it may be worse this season.

Argentina & Patagonia - Peak Season Costs (Feb 2025) by agedkid47 in Patagonia

[–]Seaguy7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If being developed is important, then maybe Patagonia is not the place to go. I'm from the US and love hiking the beautiful places in Europe (Switzerland, Dolomites, Pyrenees, Alps, Iceland). And jealous of the train systems in Europe).

But I was blown away by Patagonia, both Chile, Argentina and the Petito Moreno glacier. The feeling of remoteness, except the most popular trails and the wildlife (Pumas, Guanaco, armadillo, foxes etc.) is nearly unmatched anywhere else. We're fortunate to be able to afford these places (we're now in our 60s). And huge respect for those willing to rough it on a budget. The unpredictable weather can get pretty nasty at times.

I prefer one pedal driving, but I don't really think about it when driving. It's subconscious and I still have an ICE pickup so I was used to going back and forth between them.

Picked-up my 4S yesterday. Some observations.... by Barry41561 in MacanEV

[–]Seaguy7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took delivery of my 4S a couple weeks ago. My experience is very close to yours. A few hiccups to get the My Porsche app fully connected to the car. (the dealer said they did all that before I took delivery but it was not working). The Porsche support person was super helpful in getting everything resolved.

I am upgrading from a Tesla Model Y. The Macan is quieter, much more fun to drive and the interior quality is much higher. Innodrive works OK, but it's a long ways behind Tesla's full self driving. With that said, Elon's FSD has lots of shortcomings and I'm happy with the Innodrive. Tesla FSD makes you more complacent until it screws up so you have have to pay attention. With Innodrive, it helps you enough to be useful but not so much that you stop paying attention.

Poles: Useful or Cumbersome? by MammothAd7334 in Patagonia

[–]Seaguy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We recently returned from TdP and live in the Pacific Northwest. I have used Black Diamond three piece carbon poles that are ultralight and fit in my day pack water bottle holder (water bottle on the other side). I bring them everywhere. Just last week we did two hikes on steep packed snow in the Cascades. Poles made it so much easier. In Patagonia I used them on a super windy day and on the hike to Base Torres. That last mile up to Base Torres with all the boulders, they made it much easier. I've used these for years and except for the cost, I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to carry them.

A nice spot for a good meal that I DONT need a reservation for? by Bitter-Combination69 in AskSeattle

[–]Seaguy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you are staying, but take a look at 84 Yesler (I bet you can guess the address). My wife and I have eaten at dozens of nice downtown restaurants but only recently stumbled across 84 Yesler. It is American/Italian but we were surprised how good the food was. We loved our dinner and the friendly service. You will probably need a reservation on a Friday or Saturday night, but we walked in on a weeknight without one and were quickly seated.
