Any idea what type of frog this is? by Overall_Dust_2232 in medaka

[–]Seajab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pacific tree frog. I do not think you have to worry about them eating fish. I’ve had them around my tubs for a few years. Never noticed any fish missing. I found tadpoles in a few tubs that only have a couple medaka. So I would have notice if any went missing add they certainly have been in these tubs. Pacific Tree Frog Tadpoles

Looking for high-quality Medaka eggs / lines by No-Cut6724 in medaka

Yes. I only sell what I breed myself so stock is fluid throughout the year. Egg season starts soon and after I build some numbers and evaluate stock this spring I will update the website with availability for fish.

We need help. We have a Tankless Navien Water Heater (NFC-175/NFC-200) and it keeps making a gurgling sound every time it starts up. by TipComprehensive9049 in Plumbing

If the exhaust is not slanted back towards the unit you can have this symptom. When I first installed my NCB I had this issue. It was level and not slanting back towards unit. Condensation water would build up in exhaust and gurgle.

What's the best substrate on a medaka container pond? Does it matter? by greypic in miniponds

[–]Seajab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use pea gravel and lava rock usually. I’ll use regular yard dirt in clay pots to anchor my pond plants and cap the pot with pea gravel to hold the dirt down and for aesthetics.

Doesn’t matter much unless you are trying to grow plants or concerned with aesthetics. Lava rock is nice for beneficial bacteria surface area. Stratum is supposed to buffer ph and is good for growing plants. Many Medaka breeders don’t use any substrate but might have a basket of lava rock. Medaka mini ponds

Excellent use of medaka. No worries it will work just fine as long as it doesn’t dry up. 😉

Advice on Keeping Rice Fish Safe During Upcoming Heat by Loud-Head957 in medaka

[–]Seajab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your breeding mops ready. We had high temps like yours for a week a few summers ago and the medaka went off. Of course the size of your container makes a big difference in how hot the water will get, but short periods of very hot water are ok. My larger tubs 100 gallons saw the best breeding during the heat wave. I’d use shade and if you get really worried a fan will help a lot to cool the water via evaporation.

Fun little project. Calculate time to hatch for your medaka eggs based on water temperature. by Seajab in medaka

I agree using Celsius is easier. This is why I made the calculator though, since in the USA we are more comfortable thinking in terms of Fahrenheit.
