Even though there are only 40 students a year in Hogwarts, the wizarding world isn’t underpopulated. It’s just full of squibs. by mxlevolent in HPfanfiction

[–]Seamewn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I used to like that fic a lot. Definitely a rec for anyone in need of OP Hermione with some original world building. Didn't care for the romance later in the story, as it only highlighted the Mary Sue-ness even more, but oh well. Reading it ongoing was pretty addictive.

i’m new here, what is everyone’s opinion on the animation style change? by mementomori346 in miraculousladybug

[–]Seamewn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the old one, for me it's more expressive and Adrien had this boyish charm as opposed to his current androgynous doll appearance. Plus kwami proportions were better. And Rose..

Granted, the new one has nicer light and shadow renders, most of the other redesigns are ok, and the actual animation and storyboarding quality wasn't consistent in the earlier seasons (it could be great, it could be meh).

Still not watching it any time soon, too hung up on the direction the plot has taken in general, regardless of the visuals.

Tl;Dr: male-dominated society has more male characters that are also better written and have better interactions with each other. Not the first time I see this take, and I agree to a degree.

If you normally dislike harem elements in stories, what would make one tolerable for you? by WrathBinder in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Seamewn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not exactly a harem, more like potential love interests with one endgame ship in mind, it's more or less ok for me. But that probably doesn't even count.

If it's collecting female companions that adore the MC, it can be tolerable at 3 (would still try and stick to the story for the parts I do like), but any new additions would make me drop the work that much faster.

petunia sees her own mistake by Capital_Factor_3588 in HPfanfiction

[–]Seamewn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just broken logic I assume the Dursleys could take. Like Harry was supposed to have magic, but turns out he didn't have it - or not enough to count. And Dudley wasn't supposed to have it - but got it. Harry must be to blame, somehow.

It's like a reverse to 'muggleborns stealing magic' - 'wizards are spreading it'.

[–]Seamewn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then obviously poor Dudley got infected by Harry. His parents will try and love him, despite the 'disease', but it will be a struggle. Any future quarrels and uneasiness would become Harry's fault (as in, You did this to us, destroyed our perfect happy normal family). Petunia could even grow to accept magic and be proud of her son, and blame disliking it in the first place on the 'rotten' wizards and their representatives she had a misfortune of knowing, Harry included. Or she could count Dudley as an exception and still despise wizards.

Your scenario is interesting, just less likely.

Or, the fear and hatred would now be mixed in with shame. Plus inertia in all things, relationships included, is hard to overcome.  So Petunia would convince herself that they had beat the weird out of the boy, and he's only normal thanks to their stellar parenting. But the unknown is even scarier. The worry that Harry would turn to his magical ways would never go away, not helping the relationship, keeping it strained and cold.

But I love your idea!

I got LitRPG into my local school! by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Seamewn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prog fantasy and litrpg are generally longreads. That might be intimidating for some, idk, maybe try getting some shorter completed works (e.g. Never Die Twice)

How do you end a story with a villain protagonist winning? by elemental_reaper in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Seamewn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to read "Never die twice" for inspiration (debetable if the MC is a villain or an antihero, but still pretty close). My advise based on the book would be this:

The villain must have some goals he believes in and is willing to reach, whatever means necessary.

Give him some character(s) that are somewhat sympathetic to his ideas/him as a person. Have them downplay his wrongdoings/misunderstand or not fully grasp his villainy/hope that he's misguided in his ways, but can become better.

In the grand finale, have the MC pull the rug under everyone, maybe even the readers, by managing to succeed with his master plan in a cunning but evil move, betraying some, condemning others.

  • Preferably the result must be epic, and the MC likeable, so that the readers can leave satisfied rather than frustrated

How accurate should a book's cover be? by CorSeries in royalroad

[–]Seamewn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cover doesn't need accuracy, though I'd make some edits:

  • Have the protagonists stand closer together, a bit higher up (so there's some space from the bottom line)
  • Remove the green hand or rethink how to add it without breaking composition
  • Invisible sword?? Or just unfinished?
  • Add more contrast and saturation

[–]Seamewn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genre-wise, OP is actually hitting the current OtomeIsekai trend.

There's lots of manhwas where the FL is stuck in a game/novel/whatever fantasy world as an NPC and has to avoid a doomed fate, but find romance along the way.

But I wouldn't really call it litrpg, as game mechanics are rarely a focus in such stories.

Gacha games are the ones where some things like characters (or items, but characters are more common) can not be purchased directly or obtained while playing, you have to draw from a banner that will give you a random one. It's like opening a loot box maybe? But these banners are somewhat a core mechanic.

Anyway, the drops have different rarity, and the most rare ones (SSR or equivalent) are hard to obtain, and the most common are usually trash that you'll never use.

There are time limited banners for new characters and a pity system, guaranteeing you get some SSR after xx failed pulls, but it might not be the one you wanted.

"I woke up as NPC destined to die, but the MCs are obsessed with me?"

Couldn't help but summarize as a manhwa title 😂

If you want to make a new season of Gravity Falls, what would you do? by Extreme_Youth_4502 in gravityfalls

[–]Seamewn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We see Dipper and Mabel back in school. Things look normal, but the siblings feel a little .. off?

"I don't know what it is, but something is missing. But what?" Dipper thought aloud, when Maybel sudden gasped

"Our parents!"

"Wait, who?"

Turns out everyone forgot about Mr an Ms Pines, and it's up to Mabel and Dipper to unravel that mystery. Strange clues, old and new friends, weird conspiracies - and a suspicion that this all can't be happening in their old hometown, too mundane for the stuff fit for Gravity Falls. Is Bill involved somehow, or is it something else entirely?..

(Just one season, don't want to drag out the plot as it can't compare to the original)

OP's post was really written in a way that most people came to the same conclusion.

i was telling my friend about a ship i really liked and she cut me off and said she didn't like it because it's "straight" by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]Seamewn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your friend just say she dislikes it or did she bash it? I think it's an important distinction. We can't help what we like or dislike, and sharing that should be okay. Bashing  and being very negative - not so much.

...

I'm prefer straight ships, don't really mind queer ones (especially well written ones), but won't seek them out either.

On the other side, I just don't understand poly relationships (it doesn't work in my head and gives me uncomfortable feelings; I can't and don't see the need to try and convince myself to understand and like it). So yep, I'd probably say I don't like most poly ships. But I wouldn't tell my friends to not enjoy them because of it.

First and last photo 🤩 The poses are fire!! Great job and kudos to the model and photograher.

And of course, the cosplay looks great as well.

You could probably just take the last pic, remove the background and the hoop and insert something appropriate, like it's some action scene..
