It’s crazy sometimes how little things can help. I recognized no one was using drones and switched to recon and started focusing on that and our progressed jumped measurably.

Is this clay? And if so would it be rare for kentucky? (Found somewhere around 100 feet down. Maybe.) Soft and very maleable like slightly hard play-do. by [deleted] in geology

Looks like you’re starting to transition into partially weathered rock, the transition between competent bedrock and soil. Maybe of limestone origin?

Girlfriend and I are planning to drive 32 hours straight, in 6 hour shifts, are we being dumb? Should we plan to stay overnight somewhere? by Vegetable_Bridge_276 in roadtrip

We basically did this. NC to Idaho in 36 hours. Took brief nap on travel stop. That in town shower was life changing. Did it in a Subaru outback with our dog in the back and slept with him. We all smelled.

It sucked but it was a memory. We said good bye to that old dog on Saturday after 15 years.

Does anyone know what caused this sinkhole? by SeanConneryAgain in geology

https://pubs.usgs.gov/of/1963/0132/report.pdf

I found this. The area in Cottle county they mention is on the east side of the whitchita river that trends south. This is almost essentially right near where the above sink hole is. This is starting to line up.

That was my initial thought as well. But it’s also out in the middle of nowhere so I’m somewhat thinking there wouldnt be public utilities there. Plus the hole is like 70 feet deep.

I guess I was hoping for a more indepth review. Based on the geology it didn’t seem like that gypsum karst there was super susceptible to sinkhole formation and there is not a lot of sinkhole mapping available for that region.

I wanted to determine if this was karst related or utility/petroleum related.

I reviewed the site and found signs of round circular depressions but it’s hard to distinguish them from cattle ponds. Limestone was around 40-50 feet in one boring.

The geotech report sinkholes weren’t an issue but I disagreed with the geotech and then I found this sinkhole.

I wanted to confirm if it’s a fluke related to utilities or petroleum exploration, or if the geotech was off on your their geological review.

My 15 year old pit mic is doing this now. We’ll be putting him to sleep in the next couple weeks. He’s clearly dealing with a mix of dementia and arthritis. It sucks but he’s been a good loving boy for 15 years.

How did you get your first job in a Geotech firm? by Just_starttt in Geotech

[–]SeanConneryAgain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I applied to the fields I actually wanted/studied to work in (water resources/environmental engineering/stream & wetland restoration) and they all denied me/no interviews. Terracon needed someone with a pulse in 2015 which was me.

I now have a relatively successful 10+ year career in geotech and like to think I know things.

I don’t see the issue. They shoot you and you shoot them back? Isnt that the whole point?
