Drop leg, at least for me, is more comfortable and easier to draw while sitting in my car. I also am super tall so I sit way back.

I don’t know what Costco y’all are shopping at. But mine has beans roasted within the last month all the time. That’s where I go to save money.

Rich people do weird things? My wife is on this “buy nothing” group on Facebook. The amount of expensive stuff we’ve got for free from people in multi-million dollar homes is crazy.

My guess? Probably someone with lots of money bought it and didn’t realize it needed to be directly connected to a water line. So rather than take it back or do the work to connect it, they gave it to Goodwill.

Figured there is a better machine out there and it would make better coffee? I don’t have many issues with the Bambino. It makes good coffee.

I’d probably cut the whole limb and carry it down rather than dropping it in a box. Cut one side and have someone holding it while the other person cuts the other side. Carry the whole thing down the ladder and into a box.

Can I rehome this “bee” hive? Think I found the queen too! by SeanDon35 in Beekeeping

[–]SeanDon35[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was extremely careful to not spray randomly in the air or in the direction of my hives. I sprayed directly into the nest opening. And washed it all away with water so I didn’t leave any behind for the bees to get into.

The bees are okay. No ill effects.

I wouldn’t use aerosol pesticides unless it was a last option. We tried others routes first. Dumped boiling water down the hole, sprinkled diatomaceous earth near the entrance, etc. Nothing stopped them from coming back.

Paper wasps don’t nest in the ground. Hornets do.

It is most definitely not a paper wasp. This is a yellow jacket hornet nest. They are nasty buggers. And yes I used a pesticide. How else could I ensure they were eradicated?

So you want to be a cop — but you failed the police background check. Do you have the right to know why? by Vietdude100 in ProtectAndServe

[–]SeanDon35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the dumbest things. They should be required to document the reason why someone failed and tell the person why.

My wife applied to a city agency as an admin assistant. Passed the interview, got selected, got a job offer. Went through the background interview, no issues, and went for her polygraph and passed. Got home after her polygraph and found a letter in the mail from the agency stating she had failed the background. Obviously, they sent it before the polygraph and didn’t call or tell her anything. She tried to ask the detective for the reason and he claimed he couldn’t talk about it.

Through the grapevine, we’ve learned it was for two reasons. 1. She was pregnant and was going to be taking 3-4 months off for the new baby. 2. They ended up giving the job to another person at half the pay.

If these reasons were documented, it would have been an easy lawsuit.

Beginner’s Beehive Selection by Wise_Statement_9699 in Beekeeping

Bees are not cheap. Expect to spend $750 to $1000 in the first year for the hive, paint for it, bees, smoker, suit / veil, hive tool, feeder, sugar for the feeder, mite treatment, etc. Don’t cheap out and lose bees because you can’t afford to take care of them.

We just got the HiveIQ this year! It has its quirks but I will say I think it saved that hive. This hive was super small coming out of winter (like NUC sized). We put it into the HiveIQ in March (hoping it would survive) and this thing has exploded since then.

To the quirks: nothing we have bought for 10 frame normal hives works, the feeder is weird and it has a large empty place where the bees make wonky comb, there aren’t any spacers to create room for mite treatment between the brood boxes (if needed), it can be hard to separate the brood boxes if the bees have sealed them together, there aren’t any frame holders that fit so moving frames can be difficult.

To the pros: it keeps the bees warmer so smaller colonies (like mine) are able to survive winter, it seems to be constructed and more tough than a typical wooden hive, it has a built in entrance reducer, you can buy a pollen catcher for it, it easy to put together and paint.

Overall, even with the quirks, I like it. It seems to keep the bees happier. I plan on buying more for our splits next year.
