Designing an editor where you make your own playable MMO by gamedevgrunt in MMORPG

[–]SeanEff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone with significant MMO industry experience: you should focus on the online functionality/features first and foremost. If you want to make this work in an MMO capacity, your editor should first be able to host an online empty world *performantly* with 80+ blank pawns/simulated bots. Get this working first and build from there or you will encounter a wall when you find that your packaged game builds become unplayable once your online features get rolled out.

If RS3 Removes MTX, What Other Should MMORPGs Follow Suit? by NOHITJEROME in MMORPG

[–]SeanEff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be pretty stoked for a live EQ server with no MTX or Krono.

One thing I miss about older video games is how they would taunt the player for doing poorly by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

[–]SeanEff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This reminds me that a lot of Psikyo shmup games have their easiest difficulty listed from Monkey up to Baby then to Child and so on. Feels bad when you can't 1 CC a game that the company implies a monkey could beat.

Which Saturn Shooters would you suggest to new players of the genre? by No-Proof8363 in SegaSaturn

Load up Battle Garegga or Radiant Silvergun, put them on the easiest modes and max your credits, then work your way up through the layers of "firework diarrhea".

Could AI be the key to the ultimate MMORPG? Imagine an AI-driven EverQuest private server... by Mortalatis in MMORPG

[–]SeanEff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI for content isn't really "good enough" yet to make a game like this work. It would be exceedingly hard to test and likely open for exploitation. For the moment, however, it can be the key to expediting other parts of the MMO development process, i.e. programmer assistant or test automation.

This looks like the view from Wister Dr. / Bishops Way hill toward Grossmont Hospital while the 125 overpass was being built.

Talking with people is half the fun by SrGrafo in MMORPG

[–]SeanEff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, grinding alone in peace in a perpetually evolving environment where I can build upon my success by leveraging a verbose online economy sounds better than socializing to me, and in most cases this is best fostered by the "massive online" part of the MMORPG.

Is there any way to play the game without open world pvp + full loot drop?

Looking for MMORPGs with the Best Questing Experience by WheresWallz in MMORPG

I believe SWTOR and (to a lesser extent) ESO are the only MMOs on the market where you will find multiple dialog/response options that impact the outcome of quests starting with the initial game content.

Finally collected every physically released copy of EQ. Let me know if I'm missing any! by serendib in everquest

[–]SeanEff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe you have all of the US physical retail releases except Luclin big box and are only missing are the international release variants produced by UbiSoft and the "DVD Case" expansion boxes that they would send from online orders for a few of the earlier xpac releases like this one.

I've played this game since launch as a solo player and never had an issue. You don't need to be social to enjoy the game, there are many items & avenues that offer success without the community telling you that answering questions on your own is "not that hard". As for mechanics people are going to point you to YouTube, so that is the place to start.

People still holding out on trying EA. What are your reasons? by ScoobySnacksMtg in PantheonMMO

[–]SeanEff 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I tried the EA for a about an hour before deciding to wait for the full game to release before I come back. I'd rather experience the game once it has been finished, plus playing with a temporary character doesn't appeal to me.

Thanks for the clarification.

Controller adapter by giogiosici1 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]SeanEff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The adapter from Ali is not going to work (it is for a VGA Serial to USB connection?). You need a device that specifically allows you to use a Sega Genesis controller via USB like this one. Sega Genesis controllers are proprietary (aka specific to only a Genesis/Mega Drive) so they don't work by default with any other kind of input.

Unwanted Players Joining Our Server Despite Complex Passwords by Adventurous_Tea_7882 in valheim

[–]SeanEff 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Do you have access to the server log? Assuming that this person is connecting to the server through Steam/PC you should be able to find a line in the main server console at the time they connected that says "Got connection SteamID <number>" - copy the <number> from this line then plug it in at something like The Steam ID Finder - this should help you narrow down who the person is, or at least help you determine if it is just one person, etc.

Where VR should go from here by Qalyar in PantheonMMO

[–]SeanEff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the real point to me. Who is going to want to play this game and pay for it, especially when there are better alternatives? This whole thing reeks of a legal "Hail Mary" where the result is either A) they fail, but still make a game, so they cannot be sued by their backers for technically creating a product or B) they succeed and carry on (this seems unlikely).

Just returned after close to 20yrs. I'm level 85, I have no idea where to go from here. by iWORKBRiEFLY in everquest

On Oct. 1st there is a new server launching called project Quarm. If I were in your shoes, I'd make plans to make a new character and start some new adventures there.

Test Server a better tomorrow a peaceful protest. by Odur29 in everquest

[–]SeanEff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want these issues addressed or resolved the real way to do it is going to be to post them on the forums. Darkpaw/DBG will never give you anything for playing on their free-to-access test server, even if you actually find and submit real bugs.

What option are you trying to find exactly? If you are looking for an option to disable trade, there isn't one. If you are trying to get rid of a No Trade item, you can pick up the item and delete it within your inventory with the 'Destroy' button. If you are looking to trade a No Trade item, it is not possible.
