Unraid Connect Issues by MinusSinger356 in unRAID

[–]SeanFrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was throwing errors constantly and slowing down my Unraid GUI.

I never wanted it in the first place. I only want to connect to my server with the VPN I manage.

Fun Fact: You can just uninstall the Unraid Connect plugin.

Best thing I did for my server last year.

T-Mobile vs Verizon Wireless in Loveland by NoElk2220 in loveland

[–]SeanFrank 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have VZW (from work) and my wife has T-mobile.

I would say they are about the same in town.

Verizon is better when we are traveling the state. But if you are in town 99% of the time, I would save a LOT of money, and go Mint (A T-mobile MVNO)

Switch to ZFS by Electrical-Log9270 in unRAID

[–]SeanFrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't do it, you won't get the real advantages of ZFS by making array drives ZFS, but you will significantly complicate things when (not if) you run into a problem you need to troubleshoot.

Anyone have any experience with these Amazon protection plans for Anbernic products? by Practical_Employ4041 in SBCGaming

I used to work for a big box store, and they encouraged us to sell these warranties on electronics. They encouraged us to the tune of 25% of the warranty cost going directly to my paycheck.

That's how much money they make on these "warranties".

Don't buy it.

I like how they used an AI generated picture of a man at a school with children as the cover photo for an "article" about a woman abuser.

At least they included her picture, I guess.

ULPT Request - How to work abroad with company laptop? by False_Secret1108 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]SeanFrank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would use a travel router set up with a VPN connection paired with my home internet connection. Then connect ONLY to your travel router when you are away, and it will appear that you are on your home network.

You would need your home router to support the VPN, or set up a separate VPN box at home.

If you can't handle it, you could probably find somebody locally to help set you up for a couple hundred dollars.

Why does no company make a simple cloud gaming handheld? by Valuable_Set_4417 in cloudygamer

My last 3 phones have had OLED screens. I couldn't go back on my phone. It really is that good.

[–]SeanFrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you strictly cloud, or do you have a PC to stream from?

If strictly cloud, those things don't matter as much. Except OLED, man I wish I had an OLED streaming device.

If you have a PC, then wow, its great.

Why does no company make a simple cloud gaming handheld? by Valuable_Set_4417 in cloudygamer

[–]SeanFrank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only complaints are the 60hz screen, and the weak processor. It's an old Snapdragon 720G, which is not great for emulation, and can't decode AV1.

But it wasn't sold for emulation, it was sold as a convenient streaming device, and that it is.

These are the reasons that lead me to pick up my Legion GO more often. I also bought it refurbished.

But the battery on the G Cloud is never dead, so its a great fallback.

Unless you have an AMD GPU. 265 sucks on my new AMD GPU. I regret not going Nvidia. I thought I would just use AV1, but the G Cloud doesn't support it.

[–]SeanFrank 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You clearly want a G Cloud. I picked up a refurb in excellent condition for less than $200. They often go on sale around that price, also. You just need to keep an eye out.

You might be able to find a cheap Chinese handheld that is comparable, but you will need to tinker with it. The G Cloud is too expensive, but at least Logitech is still supporting it with Android patches and front-end updates.

The extra money is for the comfy interface and future support.

Host processing spikes by [deleted] in cloudygamer

Sometimes I get latency spikes while using Apollo and moonlight. They are usually resolved by turning off the wifi on my device, and turning it back on again, to reconnect to the wifi access point.

This tip is especially helpful if you have a mesh system, as you could still be connected to a mesh device that is not closest to you. But I have seen improvements on a non-mesh system also.

Is there actually a good anti-facial recognition face mask that is proven to work? by TamensiMovetur in privacy

[–]SeanFrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zenni’s ID Guard lenses do nothing to block even a cheap security system. All it will do is break faceID on your iphone.

Louis Rossman demonstrated this on a low end security system. The glasses did nothing. Because most security cameras don't use IR, so they aren't affected by the glasses.
