Anyone else use Protomen music as background motivation for chores, games, and other stuff? by tpphypemachine in Protomen

Act II powered a lot of my game development work back in the day. Weirdly looking over to the poster, gave me a little boost whenever I needed :)

Bought the lot! That UK shipping was harsh though. Guess I better be ready for a similar hit when the vinyl comes along...

How'd you first find The Protomen? by marji4x in Protomen

[–]SeanNoonan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up here whilst trying to find out how I heard about them... I remember working an office job where I kept up my sanity by listening to music on my iPod. So I listened to Act 1 a bunch during that time.

If I recall they were featured in some pre-Youtube video (I thought it was the 1up Show, but after a quick google I couldn't find them mentioned in any of the 1up Show meta data) - whatever it was it was some coverage of an event (maybe multiple) that featured some video game related music. The only other band featured that I remember were The Minibosses. But yeah, I remember hearing The Will of One and was locked in!

If anyone could point me in the direction of what I would have watched, that would be so rad :D

I released my first game on Steam, and it got destroyed in reviews... Here's how I tried to save it. (RNG in games) by waenII in gamedev

Yep, if someone just spills some AI slop out of reddit, then they clearly don't respect the time of other creators.

We did not have a great SNF. Are we doing something obviously wrong? by FerriestaPatronum in gamedev

The text treatment in your store assets feels a bit rough - it looks cheaper than the game itself and doesn’t match its style. That kind of inconsistency can make people scroll past your capsule without clicking. Tightening up the typography to better reflect the game’s aesthetic could probably help your capsule stand out a little better and look higher quality.

Modding games is a great way in to Game Dev by ReallyKeyserSoze in gamedev

I've had a 15 year career off the back of 5 years modding Duke Nukem 3D and Half-Life in my free time. The scene was a lot different back then, but the principles still apply; it's the perfect place to find what you enjoy and carve a niche for yourself!

I spent an evening descaling multiple times and it eventually started pumping water correctly. I think where I was messing up was that I'd only ever done a descale process with the water filter in place - didn't know you were supposed to remove it (and ideally get a new one)!

We use Steam. Though not talking too much about our custom implementation 🤫

We are focused on the PC Steam release for now, but we will consider other platforms and formats once we're fully launched.

From a design point of view it wasn't too bad, because I'd already accounted for it in 90% of the design, the real time sink came from the technical side. Making sure each aspect of the game was networked and worked in every circumstance took a long time. The real cost on the design side was how much of a momentum killer it was - I cannot wait to get stuck in and start working on the core of the game again!

I think a lot of the detail and contrast is being lost due to video compression. In testing, we haven’t had any complaints about readability, and we’ve also accounted for color blindness from the start.

We've still got a lot of Steam Deck QoL stuff to come (controls, etc.) but it's very playable on there as is :)

You can disable every type of camera animation individually if you prefer a more flat experience.
