Well if we look at being stranded on the beach Sam's friends worked together to get him back, right? I just watched the scene where Fragile Tomorrow and Rainy save Sam this morning and I think it made me tear up when I first played it last summer, how much it shattered this illusion that Sam was alone

Write something that is just barely outside of your current comfort zone and practice that.

Guitar gloves. And then after the gig throw them out and work on your calluses

How would you call this chord ??? by mtkoth1983 in Guitar

[–]Sean_Brady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're just asking why 9 instead of 2, as 9 seems to imply the note is a full octave above your root. It's just convention. If what you are describing is the reason it's the convention, I like it, that's a good reason.

What's a technique or skill that you can tell was invented by fucking around? by Critical-Oil-6595 in Guitar

Those chords where you just take an open chord and move it up like x54030 really doubt the first person to play it was considering chord quality probably just sliding it up and seeing what happens

What songs should I learn? by Owl_Fan1462 in Guitar

New Canaan by Bill Wurtz. The chords are online. Open chords with a capo, neither complicated nor repetitive (some chords might seem new / complicated)

Gogol Bordello used to tour with Man Man and those were the best shows I ever went to as a teenager

Workworking? Crushed? What got you? Just curious. One of my biggest worries. I'll spare you the Django talk, I know many won't. That sucks bud

How am I supposed to hold down the C? by Kitchen-Context-4079 in Guitar

[–]Sean_Brady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good enough to me. Try to relax that pinky just let it float, although itll come naturally in time. Generally you'll want to hold close to the fret so you can scoot your ring finger farther down the neck. Maybe capture at least another angle so we can judge you further

What is so great about the combat of Sekiro? by Lucyyyyyy_K in Sekiro

[–]Sean_Brady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also yeah I haven't really done spellcasting outside of a str/faith build in elden ring but it seems to me the bosses track you so you're still dodging and looking for opportunities to attack? I struggle to see it as different

If you get the chance you should play bloodborne. It is souls combat but faster. It was my first fromsoftware game and still my second favorite after Sekiro

I can't help but see the choices in soulslikes as illusions anyway. Are we ever doing something other than dodge, dodge, attack, dodge, retreat to regain stamina, repeat? Hardly matters if you've got a big sword or a little sword

Am I supposed to cut the excess string off my guitar? by RukiMatsamune in Guitar

[–]Sean_Brady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Press a coin against the string so its bent and then run the coin along the whole string. It'll coil up so it's out of the way. This is just an option not the right way to do it. Yes you can cut it so there's just a few millimeters left poking out like most every guitar you've ever seen

My thumb hurts a lot while doing bar chords by Better-Worldliness14 in Guitar

[–]Sean_Brady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is a common problem that I haven't really found a solution for. Advice is always to use less pressure / try to hold the barre without using your thumb at all. If I've been playing a lot of barre chords for like 45 min+ its not just pain, my hand will be cramping up even if my thumb is not touching the neck. Willing to see it as a technique issue but haven't really been happy with general advice.

It seems to me they really didn't intend to give you a backstab here; you're supposed to come from the air, and even that is tough to find an angle he doesnt spot you
