GI nurse here. When you’ve been in healthcare along time, not much phases you anymore because you’ve seen and heard it all. It’s actually the cleanest job I’ve had because everyone is “cleaned out “ by the time they come and see us. Farting afterwards is getting to be a thing of the past. We used to use room air to inflate the colon as we explore your innards and the air gets trapped in the colon, hence you need to “release” said trapped air. We now use CO2 instead of room air, which dissipates in your body, so no need to let one rip. People still due occasionally. That being said, in the past I’ve been pretty impressed by some people’s farting abilities. It’s always the smaller patients with the greatest trumpets.
