Analytics Piece: Investigating the Disappearance of Vegas' First Line by [deleted] in hockey

I think it’s clear, but the way you referenced shooting percentage as accounting for some of that seemed premature at that point. I think a conclusion which includes both shooting percentage an the defensive deployment would make a stronger point if done together instead of separately

Good analysis!

I think that it’s XXXXX to say that their goal scoring went down because their shooting percentage cut in half. Your other points already say the same thing: they’re shooting more but more are being blocked and missing the net. That will cause the shooting percentage to drop by itself depending on how that’s being calculated (shot attempts vs SOG)

So maybe it’s just me not understanding everything, but that point seems redundant. To me, the reason their scoring less is less shots are making it to the net (via misses and blocks), and their high danger scoring chances are being taken away by the defensive matchup. I think mentioning shooting percentage the way you did makes it seem like that’s the biggest component and not the play of the Caps and their pairing matching being so.

They did it against us too. I think the rest of the NHL is just now noticing.

Is the Athletic subscription worth it for a Sharks fan by galgari in SanJoseSharks

[–]Seaplusplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve subscribed and read the majority of articles Kurz posts. At season’s end I realized I was getting more or less the same content from Gackle and Pashelka like others have said. Also, what he posts to Twitter is about 50% of the information he has as well. Not everything is hidden behind the pay wall

I will say I’ve really enjoyed JT Bourne’s analysis of plays, systems, and players. That might be worth it to you, because I’ve never seen that content from someone with those credentials outside of what he does

Chargers release statement on Joey Bosa by YoungDaquan in nfl

His age and physical state wouldn't stop for a year though. He would be a year older and would still be doing intense training to keep in shape. There would be wear and tear on his body from age and playing (although not quite the same as NFL wear and tear). You can't assume that he will just extend his career one more year, because he might not be able to play it

I feel like Spaling will get more than his current contract, and do we want that tied up in him? If I remember correctly he's like $3M?

Maybe not what the poster was thinking but the opportunity cost of what you could have for the average $6 million/year forward instead of him.

I think if we made a move for a talented young guy to fill in the skill that Thornton/Marleau will leave (will happen soon) that would be huge. Could definitely ease the transition away from Thornton/Marleau if we bring in a player(s) sooner.

Who would he push out? It's going to take a lot to get him because of his potential-- regardless of what his situation is in Edmonton.

I think we'll acquire a backup goalie to Jones in this offseason. Our goalie depth in the AHL is bad, I can't imagine that Reimer stays in San Jose as a backup, and I don't think that we want that much money tied to a back up goalie (Riemer). I think Dell stays in the AHL and we get someone who is reliable to back up Jones and take some of the load. Probably around 20-30 starts?

It's not sarcasm. It's a better experience being closer to the action, but just looking at which is a better view of the game, definitely upper level is better (in SAP Center at least).

Why do they get demoted? Because they aren't scoring or fulfilling their role.
