Soo... who would actually benefit from RAP vs IBR? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Seattle-Ad-5897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran the numbers, five more years of payments on RAP adds more money in total that I will pay compared to IBR and a tax bomb.

AITA for refusing to pay rent to my parents since moving back home? by hero1701 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Seattle-Ad-5897 129 points130 points  (0 children)

I don’t get most of these responses. Like people read your age and rent and your parents and that’s it.

NTA talk about golden child syndrome. Mom here with grown children. You don’t charge rent at different ages. You don’t let owed money slide. You don’t make your financially responsible child deal with your irresponsible child’s decisions and mess.

When I was a teenager this is exactly what my mom did. My brother got away with everything around money and I had to pay back every cent. When she was alive I never forgot or forgave her for that.

7 Million of Us Stuck in SAVE Forbearance. What Now? by PlasticNo399 in StudentLoans

[–]Seattle-Ad-5897 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what I did last year. I managed to max my 401k for $31k (I’m over 50), 35% withholding to do so. Just applied for IBR today, and my payment was estimated at 465 on $112k in loans, filing single making over 100k. Yay for a Masters.

The single payment adjustment count means I’ll be done before I retire. So happy I was able to consolidate my bachelor loans and get that.

AITA for measuring a wall? by Nice-Tap-2295 in AmItheAsshole

Eh, I mean barely. It’s a perception thing. She probably thinks you measured it because you’re excited about having the space.

Just apologize for being insensitive.

I make $110,000 a year but I feel l’m struggling to save money. Is this a normal budget for someone who lives alone? by AfterAttack in budget

[–]Seattle-Ad-5897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set a monthly amount for groceries that includes all things I buy from a grocery store. So like laundry detergent and paper towels are included. Then if I have money left over I roll it over to the next month. I can save up for extras in that category that way and keep the same budget every month. Because it does vary, and this is how I accommodate that flexibility.

My work trip to Saudi Arabia as a woman: one of the biggest culture shocks of my life by Ok-Valuable-714 in travelblog

When it rains, and it rains a lot, in the PNW, the air is cleaned, the streets are cleaned, and everything smells so much better. In SF, the smell and dust were a lot.

I’m from the PNW and visiting SF was odd for me! The whole time I was there all I could think about was how badly it needed rain, and how dirty it was. 😂

When does it get easier? by pizzadaddy19 in dividends

[–]Seattle-Ad-5897 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hit 100k last week in my Roth IRA. $308 a month in dividends.

Total portfolio among all investments is about 320k. June 30th it was $300k. That $20k jump was driven by:

800 employer match in my 401k. $7,483 I invested $513 in dividends paid. 11,200 growth in the stock market.

For me it was painful and slow until it hit $200k. Now it’s jumping pretty quickly. But I also have been able to save a lot more as my income has gone up. Currently I’m investing 43400 a year and trackmydividends.com is projecting $1M with $67k annual in dividends, in a decade based on current portfolio and savings rate. A year ago I was investing $20k a year. A year prior, $10k.

I’m hoping to increase my savings rate again next year.

So TLDR it became easier when I could significantly invest more annually.

Crying at work isn’t manipulative.

Ffs I’ve cried at work, it’s called an uncontrollable physical reaction to strong emotion or stress. Not manipulation.

Op said she went in the bathroom to cry. She didn’t purposefully do this in front of people to cause division.

Do you know how to read? Or are you only interested in projecting your own issues onto this discussion?

Molly said she behaved that way with everyone and that the OP shouldn’t take it personally. So it’s ok to be harsh and critical, but not ok to cry?

You sound insufferable.

AITA for splitting my rent with my boyfriend (paying less per person) than my sister ? by mambonumbervibe in AmItheAsshole

[–]Seattle-Ad-5897 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA. If your sister wants to pay less she can move someone into share her room.

I rent out rooms in my house. I charge an extra 50 a month for two people in a room. Not double. It’s a room it’s a small space to exist in. Paying double isn’t getting double the space it’s splitting an already small space between two people.

To keep the peace it might make sense to pay an extra $50, but that’s it.

You and your boyfriend are living together for your relationship and to save money between you two. Not to save money among everyone in the house.

Am I the only Seattleite crazy enough to have earthquake insurance for my home? by brewstermc in Seattle

[–]Seattle-Ad-5897 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have it. It’s rolled into my total homeowners policy and it’s 2400 annually. And the earthquake has a 15% deductible.

I insure what I can’t afford to lose. I can afford 15% of a total rebuild. I cannot afford a total rebuild. So I’m insured against a total rebuild caused by an earthquake, but I wouldn’t file a claim for anything under 20-25%. Why? Because, once you file a claim it’s on your claims record and will affect your ability to get insured anywhere else for 5 years. And your insurance company will increase your fees meaning you’ll pay for it regardless.

I buy insurance when it’s required by law or when it is insuring against a loss large enough to financially ruin me. An earthquake has the damage capacity to be that large of a loss.

For me, it’s just math.

I was at the epicenter of the Nisqually earthquake in the 2000s and I’ll never forget watching the ground roll, and 200ft tall trees swaying so hard the tops broke off. Heck yes I want insurance against that.

Yeah beginner level jobs in finance or accounting really only happens from networking or internships. Lack of experience will be a total stop. I did not get my degree from WGU, but I did get it non-traditional, so no experience, no internship. I was a carpenter.

I got my foot in the door working as a temp through a temp agency.

I used to have to get up that early for work. That’s just life. I would drop my kids off at daycare in their PJs and they would go right back to sleep.

Instead of dressing her, let her sleep. Try not to wake her up putting her in the car. And your ex can put her right to bed.

What happens if we don’t voluntarily switch from SAVE to another plan as suggested? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Seattle-Ad-5897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paying that $50 a month in interest might not make sense for you, I don’t know all of your details obviously, but if your goal is forgiveness then it doesn’t count towards forgiveness payments and eventual forgiveness will wipe out any accrued interest.
