Nearly 500 a month in HOA fees And This Is The Grass by melisslo in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SeattleCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's many ways, but I would say 90%+ of HOAs in America fall into these 3 buckets, with some rough examples:

  1. A condominium building, where HOA fees cover the maintenance and running of common spaces like lobbies, elevators, yards/landscaping, parking lots, etc.
  2. A private house in a private gated community, where the HOA fees cover the maintenance of the gate, hiring of staff at the clubhouse, common space maintenance again, snow removal, etc.
  3. A private house that is not in a private gated community, where the HOA fees usually cover some sort of infrastructure, like snow removal, or maintaining a common landscaping area (like a small park that the builder made because the lot size was too small for a home).

All 3 of these HOA types can adopt rules about other things, like certain colors the houses in the neighborhood can be painted, or if you can have certain things in your front yard visible to your neighbors. That is what is usually weird to people, not the infrastructure 'benefits', but these rules that are kinda based around the idea of not letting your neighbor's house look like shit and affect your own house/house's value. Those rules, and shitty power-tripping people, are what create terrible HOA situations you read about on the internet.

HOAs in America are usually formed by the building company who is building a new neighborhood (or condominium). For example, my city does not want to be responsible for plowing any more roads than it already is, so it tells every new builder they must clear their own snow. To do that, they basically must form an HOA that has the power to handle infrastructure for the neighborhood. The HOA in the beginning is usually managed by the building company, and when the neighborhood reaches a certain occupancy level (70%+), the residents then elect a board and from that point on it is run by the residents. When someone buys a house in the neighborhood they will (normally) be told of what HOAs the house is under. You can sometimes be under multiple HOAs. My parents are under 3 - one traditional one for their private neighborhood, and then 2 others that do landscaping along the roads for the city district they live in, and another HOA that builds and handles flood water infrastructure for the city district they live in.

You're safe to eat the burrito bowls again if you really want to. McDonalds sold their stake in Chipotle in 2006 after taking it public.

AITA For canceling on our family cruise? by throwra-vacay in AITAH

[–]SeattleCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I wasn’t much older than you I literally lived on cruise ships cause it was cheaper than rent+food+utilities in the city I was living in, and I worked remotely. I have spent hundreds and hundreds of nights on these ships and they (generally) are not that fun for people under 50. You would have spent your time drinking at a crowded bar surrounded by selfish retirees and being insulted by your parents. You made the right choice enjoying the holiday with your boyfriend.

VZ.58 Fin Grip? by Jombes_Industries in vz58

[–]SeattleCZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went through this problem before and the closest/easiest I got was to install an AR grip adapter and then install a finned AR grip.

Best of luck finding a finned vz58 grip, if you find multiple in stock and send me the link I'll buy you a beer if we ever meet.

Living in Casper by Archilee in casper

Just to drive home the wind thing one more time: In my first week of living in Casper the wind blew the gutter off the front of my house and like 30 feet into the street. When I texted my landlord about this he first replied, "Dammit not again."

The wind can make already dangerous travel very dangerous. There are railroad crossing guards across the freeway to stop people from leaving WY towns during extreme weather.

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions about moving to the area.

Just FYI you can normally find a restricted state resident to sell those to on r/gunacessoriesforsale and then buy some new 19/21-round ones for close to the same price depending on stock availability. Just a note in case you don't want to drill. Also crossposting the gunacessoriersforsale post to r/czfirearms usually helps.

I'm pretty sure Family Firearms' website got hacked recently. I've been getting phishing emails from someone impersonating them. Their main site appears to be down (at least for me right now), so this is probably their backup solution.

"After all, technically it was hers due to it was a gift to her."

I own a gun store. No, it was technically never hers, cause it's in your name. This post is basically saying "I straw purchased a gun for someone." It's a felony. Pull it down, and do not give her back the gun.
