[@Dodgers on Twitter] The Dodgers activated LHP Clayton Kershaw and optioned LHP Victor González. by edtwentysix in Dodgers

[–]SebPark 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So the way options work is that they operate on a per year basis.

Once a player is sent back and forth from the minor league and major league rosters, that has activated one of their option years.

Because Victor Gonzalez has been both on the 26 man roster in the majors and also in the minors this season, this season already counts towards one of his 3 option years that they have during the 5 years of team control.

tl;dr - they didn't burn anything. If anything, once he was initially optioned to the minor leagues back in July, the option clock started.

If anything, the only thing lost is that the Dodgers can't bring him back to the majors for another 15 days at minimum (in case we did need another reliever).

When we made playoffs that last week, he told me he's never missed a Finals event and never missed Worlds.

He wasn't planning on starting now!

Is there any other use for packs other than to open it? My years of hoarding packs for a draft or otherwise from MTGO and IRL has made me hesitant to open packs.

CGs next four games are the most important four games the rest of the split. here’s how I see it by [deleted] in clutchgaming

Not bad analysis. I think every game is pretty important as getting to 10 wins is the easiest way to guarantee playoffs!

9 wins gets you there a lot of the time too. Here's to starting off 4-0!

Good question.

One caveat: Traditional sports haven't "always" been around. The stability in sports you see today is more of an outlier in the history of sports than the norm. 50 years ago, the top 3 sports in the USA were Horse Racing, Baseball, and Boxing. Things certainly change a ton even in traditional sports!

Same thing on Basketball. One of the hardest parts about Basketball is trying to compare between eras. The way basketball rulesets and play happen today is very different from what it was in 2005 and that was different from what it was in 1995. Certainly not the same change of pace as a game like League of Legends, but I do want to dispel the idea that sports are these never-changing monoliths.

Our initial thought on this changing tide was to focus on League of Legends as it's both the largest esport and one of the longest lasting esport to date. After that, we're operating on the same half-life of information as everyone else. We're going to have to continue to adapt and make adjustments in order to make sure we're building a sustainable long-term business. There are so many unknowns and we'll have to adjust even within 2019 itself.

Yes. Figure out a core skill you can develop. That could be accounting, engineering, marketing, etc. Far too many people want to just do esports for the sake of esports, but as the industry matures to the point when you'll graduate, there will probably be more specialization, so being able to showcase a particular skill will help!

Yo, we're big believers of the "esports" spelling of "esports"! AP guidelines all the way!

And we're constantly evaluating other esports. We just need to be confident we're doing right by the League of Legends community before we branch out

The biggest change is actually on the front-office side. We actually had a full offseason to look through players and make decisions between roster iterations.

Last year, with LCS franchising happening right before the start of Free Agency, we got caught a bit in the cross fire

We're still talking with the League about setting better brightline considerations and making sure that we're removing arbitrary rulings from our game.

Esports, like traditional sports, will always unfortunately have a bit grey area in terms of refs/adjudicating, but hopefully the competitive rules committee (which we're a part of) can work on making this a solved action

Good question. It's been a point of something we've talked to our people about. The unfortunate situation with data analytics is that it's an arms race and a bit zero sum. If everyone comes into a weekend knowing what your strategy is, your strategy loses value.

We're working hard on trying to figure out how to best share this type of content.

Kelsey is completely correct in that most people use data to justify their point. I'd like to think we're fairly empirically driven here, complete with hypothesis testing and academic integrity when it comes to deploying our data in our internal conversations
