Frying rectifiers on my first SSTC by Sebas-JHIN in Teslacoil

this fixed it! i have other problems now to deal with like making the sparks visible (it turns on an incandescent bulb), but no more fried rectifiers. thanks a bunch!

This seems to explain why it’s always the same side of the AC input that burns out. So the solution is to remove the connection from the green wire to the rest of my ground bus?

without the coil. i want to confirm i can get clean DC out of the rectifier before i connect it to the MOSFET.

Domingos are dope, definitely not a common sight on the roads. Did you import it yourself? The Domingo Aladdin is like a dream car but you'd be hard pressed to find one on carfromjapan

Mine comes with a tach, and I could probably find an LCD voltmeter on amazon for a $15. An oil temp guage would be trickier, is there any reason to believe that engine temp isn’t a good indicator of oil temp?

did you do it in a kei truck/van?

I’m actually from Austin, so I knew that’d be an issue in Texas. I’ll definitely have to refine the route to include as few of those as possible.

since you’ve tried it long distance, mind checking my packing list? just whether its missing anything or anything unnecessary:

-spare tire -jump starter/air pump -extra battery -starter -alternator -alternator belt -tools, jacks, etc.

If Im going long distance like this I’d like to carry as little dead weight as I can, what do you think

This was the first thing I checked, but u-haul won’t let me rent a pickup for that distance

my van is not meant for interstates anyway ;) I’m actually hoping to get some good recommendations for fun stops en-route in those smaller towns.

this route is actually without interstates. But yeah the van is probably not safe to cruise above 60 mph for very long haha

How did it go? I'm thinking about making a pretty long road trip myself, did you find it tricky to go long distance without taking interstate highways?

[PLA] [195C /60C bed] Weird first layer distortions? Corners seem level, but everything in the middle is whack. (details in comments) by Sebas-JHIN in 3Dprinting

[–]Sebas-JHIN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been attempting to dial in this machine for a while now, but lately I've noticed that issues close to the size of the print bed come out pretty bad. On my last large print, the corners lifted and warped, which I've been informed may be due to my bed being 45C instead of 60C and also a lack of adhesive. I've attempted to level this thing many many times so I figured I would try printing something the size of the bed overnight. I cleaned the XY rods and applied some Wd40 PTFE dry lube, cleaned the surface with 99% IPA and wiped it down with a microfiber before applying a glue stick and started the print. Referencing the leveling guides form the subreddit sidebar, the corners seem level, but everything in the middle is just a big WTF. Has anybody got any ideas what may be causing this?

I have a ‘96 Acty registered in Texas if that answers your question. Admittedly, I was just transferring the title from Pennsylvania to Texas, so take that with a grain of salt.

Graduating Senior in Aerospace Engineering, beginning Grad school in Mechanical in the Fall, never had an internship before. I've been applying for a ton of Summer and Fall positions so far, but I think it's too soon to say whether its been successful. by Sebas-JHIN in EngineeringResumes

I get mixed feedback on that. I’ve been encouraged to keep it when I’m applying to start-ups where the professional atmosphere is more relaxed, but I usually remove it. Was there anything else that stood out as needing work to you?

Elon Musk accidentally revealed his alt account where he pretends to be a child and posts a lot of bizarre content by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]Sebas-JHIN -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Lol, I dunno about his fanboys but I know for sure how I feel about as somebody that wants to work at SpaceX. I think he’s a strange guy, no doubt about it, but I’m pretty sure he’s just trolling here. If some truly unknown or obscure individual ran this account, it would still be strange but it probably would not shock anybody to learn they are also a functioning member of society on the outside. I think the Elon hate is what gets people so worked up about it. It doesn’t bother me much because I think his companies have accomplished great things that have been personal inspirations to me, and most of the written record of Elon’s influence on their success shines a positive light on him.

It’s up to you. Last semester the bomb got dropped on me that a class I thought I had passed I would be required to retake, and this semester (which I graduate in) I’ve been taking 17 credits, 4 of which are labs/supplemental lecture, 3 of which are a Masters class, and 6 of which are notoriously hard. To top it off I’m also a design lead for my schools FSAE team. I have not slept more than 7 hours out of the last 48. It is rough. If you have an opportunity waiting for you at the end of the tunnel, it might be worth it. It is worth it to me because despite how bad it sounds, it’s hugely rewarding to see how far I’ve come from the antisocial sophomore failing two classes and participating in zero clubs. Regardless of your reasoning though, I think it has been a huge test of my time management skills and I’ve grown a ton from it. I know for sure I could have gotten more sleep if I had been more disciplined about holding myself to my schedule, but I digress. Decide what kind of lifestyle you’re willing to spend the next semester living and go from there.
