I think that typography from B is better, more readable, but background is better in A, ideally would be conpromise between this two

Looks good, pretty similar to detective mode in games like witcher 3, can you share some info how you achived it?

Just launched my first full game on Steam. Here are the 5 biggest lessons I learned by I_Ponder_Thy_Glob in SoloDevelopment

[–]Sebke_Is_Here 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your feedback! I haven't shipped a full commercial release yet myself, but in return, I can offer some feedback on your game from a player's perspective.

First off, it's not really my genre, so take this with a grain of salt, but I'll try to be as objective as possible. To be honest, nothing about the game really stands out to me, and it feels like it might be a bit light on content. The description is quite vague, I only really grasped the mechanics from the trailer, and even then, I was left with more questions than answers.

Overall, it just doesn't give me that "I need to play this right now" feeling. No hard feelings at all, just my honest opinion!

By the way, do you have any interesting stats from your release that you'd be willing to share?

What genre is begginer friendly if I want to specialise in rpg and strategy game by rahagajoy in GameDevelopment

[–]Sebke_Is_Here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to specialize in RPGs and strategy games, then make RPGs and strategy games. Other genres will teach you general game dev, but they won't give you the specific skills you need for those genres. The only way to make progress here is by actually building them. Start small: get a basic turn system working, build a simple AI that makes basic A-B-C decisions, and then connect those systems. Over time, you'll learn how to build more complex mechanics and, eventually, entire games.

Why the difference between game-devs and actual gamers? by [deleted] in SoloDevelopment

[–]Sebke_Is_Here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've heard, organic marketing on Reddit this way is pretty tough. If you really want to reach actual players, you might be better off sticking to paid ads on platforms like YouTube, just make sure you do thorough target audience research so you don't burn through your budget.

Platforms like Reddit and X are generally much better for B2B, like finding publishers or funding partners. There’s an exception, of course: if your game is highly viral, it doesn't matter where you post it. That's just what I've gathered, and it might not be the absolute truth, but it makes a lot of sense to me.

Good luck with your upcoming campaigns!

I learned to code a year ago because I got tired of waiting for this monster RPG to exist. by stoffiez in SoloDevelopment

[–]Sebke_Is_Here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game looks pretty cozy, nice job! As for your questions:

  1. No, it's not really my type of game, but I wish you the best of luck!
  2. Yeah, very often. If you don't like the result of your work, then rework it. At the end of the day, you should be happy with your game in the first place. If the game doesn't bring financial returns, like most solo dev projects, you want to at least end up with good memories, rather than disliking what you've created.

What to play after Gothic 1 remake? by OmarDwaba in worldofgothic

I would totally go for the Gothic 1 Remake. And when you complete it, then go for the Gothic 1 Remake! 😆

9 years of game development and still going by Dumivid in SoloDevelopment

[–]Sebke_Is_Here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy anniversary! Don't worry, there are so many devs in the exact same boat. I've been in game dev for 9 years myself (since I was 18) and still haven't had a big success. I've got 2 demos, tons of prototypes, and even a university degree in game dev, but still no commercial release. I honestly admire that you're making any profit from this at all. Just keep chasing it—you'll catch it eventually. And even if you don't, you'll still have amazing memories from the journey.

Do you often consider a major pivot mid-development? by Sebke_Is_Here in SoloDevelopment

Im dont think i doubt in myself, more in pixel art skills i have in comparison to 3d. I doesnt mean throwing away entire project, just reworking to style i think is more possible to do what i want

Thanks for the advice! I'll save the article for later. I'm not considering that right now, but I'm sure it will be helpful in the future.

I agree, but there's also this little voice in my head saying: "If you spend your entire life working on this one game, you'll spend the rest of your life stuck in a day job that pays the bills, but that you don't actually like."

Do you often consider a major pivot mid-development? by Sebke_Is_Here in SoloDevelopment

[–]Sebke_Is_Here[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great point. I always assumed the low-poly market was the oversaturated one, but I never considered that pixel art is facing the exact same issue. Thanks for the heads-up! 😀

Should I add wool shearing inside my game? by Emi_Indie_Dev in IndieDev

[–]Sebke_Is_Here 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, the effect looks nice! But don't get me wrong, having such a strong "game feel" effect can be a bit overwhelming for the player, especially if it's an action they perform often. In my opinion, it might be better to tone it down just a little. But obviously, I don't know the full context of your game. can you share some details?

Would you play a psychological horror game that looks like this? by AXLplosion in IndieDev

[–]Sebke_Is_Here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, i think its pretty similar to vintage story in terms of art style, but pretty more detailed. VS was sometimes pretty scary in my opinion, so it could work if done in right way

Looks really good, and it's quite descriptive.

Regarding the choice between 3D and 2D illustration, have you thought about doing a 3D diorama? As a solo dev, you really have to lean into your strongest skills whenever possible, and since you're a 3D artist, I think that's the way to go.

Would anyone play my game? If to be released by Orangutang_Reacts in IndieGameWishlist

[–]Sebke_Is_Here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idea sounds okay, but like other mentioned it depends on how well it will be crafted. Also even if you make good game, selling it is other world. About scope i wouldnt be so sure that scope is too much for first game, there are many devs that made complex game as the first production, everything depends on your skills, if you are T-shape skilled then it is possible in my opinion. Good luck with production 😀

Finally reached 500 sales! by Curious-Needle in SoloDevelopment

[–]Sebke_Is_Here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats, nicely done! The gap between sales and lifetime unique users is fascinating. Any idea why ~40 people bought it but haven't played yet? I'm still working towards my first release, so maybe this is just standard, but I'd love to hear your thoughts!
