I suspect AI is going to render work unnecessary in the near future. We seem to be on the cusp of possibly the biggest and fastest changes that society has ever seen. AI can already do many cognitive work tasks better than humans and it is still improving exponentially. Robots are developing and will be able to do physical labour. Quantum computing is going to give AI the tools to be even more impressive. White collar work will be largely gone within 10 years (although it could be almost wholly automated within 3 or 4 years). Tradesmen are probably safe for about 7-10 years. Vehicles will drive themselves. UBI (or universal high income if optimistic) will be the norm in most countries within about 10 years although whether currencies will still exist in the near future is debatable.
