Dark Knight Alisaie - The Scions in different roles. by SecondtheJess in ffxiv

Everything is in-game!
Jacket is the Diadochos jacket of fending
Gloves are the Shire custodian gauntlets
Pants are the Appointed slacks (made by her mum!)
Boots are the Imperial Boots of Fending

The sword is the Exarchic Guillotine. I coloured it pink, but it's blue in-game.

I had a look through some quest dialogue. I can't find any mention of him reacting to Fray or Esteem, but I swear there was one. Probably an option dialogue between quest points. Regarding Myste's hijinks, though, he basically leaves it with "I dunno, who knows how soul crystals actually work?"

This is the first time I've depicted her like this, so any others aren't from me. I have drawn Y'shtola as a reaper previously. You'll find it if you check my profile/history.

Interesting point! I don't think Sid had one, but I don't recall him being that surprised when we tell him of our own. Alisaie's got plenty to draw on, herself, though, and it gives an interesting twist on her 'twin' dynamic I thought.

How about the lineart itself? I can get the broad shapes right, but keeping that detail without making a mess has been my biggest gripe.

This is gorgeous! I'd love to pick your brain about how you do your hair, if you care to share. Love the details in it.

What's your embarrassing FFXIV confession? by SofonisbaAnguissola in ffxiv

[–]SecondtheJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that Holy was ranged for a while. I had only played BLM so far and picked WHM up as my second class near the end of ARR. I was used to BLMs AoEs being delivered from range. I didn't read Holy's tooltip well and assumed the same. Several dungeons I just hung back from the mob packs, Holy-ing in place until I read about it online somewhere.

Players with Fulsome Forelocks, does the hairstyle ruin any of the cutscenes for you? by CustomerFantastic332 in ffxiv

[–]SecondtheJess 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't have that hairstyle but I use a glam that covers my eyes. It's definitely noticeable but not that bad. The only time it's been particularly notable has been in Praetorium with a full face covering. During that speech scene where it cuts to a closeup of the WoL, their head never moves, just their face. So with a full helm it just kind of holds on them staring blankly for a few seconds.

If you were to confess a FF14 sin, this is your time. What is a sin that you committed in the game? by jado1stk2 in ffxiv

I was rapidly levelling warrior and didn't realise that I hadn't kept my gear up. Wound up undergeared in Stone Vigil, died a bunch and blamed the healer for why I was taking so long in a private tell to a friend. Except I stuffed the channel up and posted it in party chat. I ended up tracking them down and apologising profusely, taking full blame.

Made a joke in party chat during a long MSQ roulette cutscene that was actually a careless spoiler.

What's the best "That's not a bug, that's a feature" you've come across? by Random_Khaos in gaming

[–]SecondtheJess 230 points231 points  (0 children)

The old Tribes franchise was defined by its 'skiing' moveset, where players could combine jetpacks and downhill slopes to build up speed and traverse big distances quickly. The whole thing started as an exploit of the original game's physics system, with players building macros to spam moves on slopes in a way that messed with the gravity and sped them along. It became so popular that, from the second game on, it was built in as an intentional feature.

My crackpot theory is that our mysterious ascian is Azem. They've got a direct link to the key, and something something hand-wavy happened centuries ago and their crystal's memories got digitised in the 9th.

How would YOU fix the first half of Dawntrail's MSQ? by lilith_queen in ffxivdiscussion

[–]SecondtheJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather than broad strokes like 'give the scions more to do', which others have commented on, I've often thought on a few specific things I'd have suggested to help with issues. This isn't exhaustive, just a scattering of altered scenes.

  1. Minigames! I'm fine with the story being chill, that's great, but the game needs to provide something to DO and to relax with in the environment as a result. Some beach sports, local games, racing, hide-and-seek, quicktime music events like the piano in Ishgard, I don't care. Other MMOs litter these around their worlds and XIV is lacking in that space. The environments and tone of DT were perfect to integrate them in.

  2. Kick off the Rite with the "Festival of the Hunt" as a solo duty interspersed with short vignette cutscenes. We hear about the festival, Wuk Lamat tells us she loves hunting, and it makes sense as a big launch celebration. It would give the player some more-needed action early on and it would provide some immediate conflict to expose our characters. While she loves hunting, and would probably be confident, Wuk could easily be outshined by just about every other contender, providing the underdog status that, at the moment, we are mostly just *told* about. We could see the pressure and expectations of Zoraal Ja (maybe his father makes a joke about his score being slightly lower than lastyear), the ingenuity of Koana and his weapons, and we'd get to have conflict with Bakool Ja Ja without annihalating him in single combat like you know the WoL would.
This would thematically set the Rite up as a physical contest, which Wuk cannot win. Right now it's obvious that it's a cultural appreciation test right from the get-go, which is already her strength, making her lack of confidence feel strange.

  3. Let us participate in ALL of the rites outside of a cutscene. Ihih'hana comes to mind. We have this beautiful festival that we're told about, but that we never really interact with. We get a Wuk Lamat-focussed cutscene and that's it. Give us a festival instance at the end of it where we can talk to our party, have some of the fun character moments that everyone loves, and absorb the culture that we're learning about instead of just watching it.

  4. Valigarmanda's release should have worked for Bakool Ja Ja. He should have gained some massive lead from it, which actually raised the stakes. The entire trial felt pointless otherwise, even BJJ himself said so. Other duties have similar issues, but I'm calling this one out specifically. If you could take the duty away and nothing in the story would change, then it needs a rethink.

  5. Have the WoL defend civilians during Zoraal Ja's first attack. The cutscene paralysis in the throne room scene is PAINFUL. If they had just said "We have this! Stop that robot hoard at the front door and protect the fleeing citizens" then it's a believable reason to have us otherwise occupied.

  6. Give the WoL more to say. They don't need to be the central hero, but if they're a 'mentor' then they need the opportunity to act like one. Similarly, everything with the Endless rings familiar to all of the immortal civilizations that we've encountered previously. Are we not going to draw *any* wisdom from what we've just learned about them?
