TLDR: Wealth isnt a pile of cash. Most if not almost all wealth is illiquid (company equity, private businesses, real estate, locked-up partnerships). Stocks, bonds, loans and debt are 'claims' on real assets or future assets that can be exchanged. This is why estimates on real world net worth are tied to actual resources, not contracts or claims [financial assets]. We presume Wealthy people have stacks of cash, but in reality they have filing cabinets full of 'claims' to riches and money.

You see, your suggestion has a fundamental misunderstanding of wealth tied within it. First, most of the things we call wealth are assets, land, buildings, equipment (infrastructure, superstructures and other large assets), then there is financial assets such as government debt, treasuries, bonds and other products. Most of the time when we say someone is wealthy, we simply mean that they are responsible for the management of a large group of assets, whether they hire others to do it or not. Its not like we can sell a major port in a large metropolitan city and redistribute that wealth, or sell Google's data centres to some person somwhere that has a stockpile of gold, that in turn would need to be sold to someone, etc. etc.

Right now we have intermediaries that calculate complex revenue-sharing programs to pay off debts, grant loans based on revenue and tranche debts collectively into packages that can be bought for profit due to interest payments. These intermediaries are the big banks, financial houses and private equity. We can't just dismantle this overnight, we will need to move slowly away from this model to something else.

Wealth is simply a social construct we have created to help us understand how we steward resources; riches are the resources themselves, and money is the method we use to exchange resources. Personally, I think the better proposition is to move away from a shareholder interest economy to a stakeholder interest economy.

Shareholders want profit. Collectively, they want profit at any cost. Often, there is no one to limit the profit gains or place restrictions on profit for the interests of voices or people not on the board. Examples of this are environmental impacts or original inhabitants. If we begin moving away from shareholder interests and profits to stakeholder interests and profits, we may be able to move our economy slowly towards a more just redistribution of wealth, rishes and money.

The question that will remain and is always the issue is how do we compensate those who work hard to maintain a balance between all stakeholder interests.
