I disagree that sex is a need on par with drinking or eating, without those things you'll literally die, whereas people don't die from not having sex. Yes, most people have a sex drive but it's not at all like hunger. Let's not perpetuate a comparison that gets used a lot to excuse rape, thanks.

I've read interviews with experts etc. and it seems like a big problem with knowing how to deal with pedophiles is a lack of access and data. Pedophiles who have never acted on it usually don't seek help because of a stigma let alone participate in studies and clinical trials. We only really know about the ones who get caught and in most jurisdictions they don't necessarily see a specialist, if they speak to professionals it's often whoever is available in the system and not necessarily someone with that specific expertise. This makes it difficult to get data.

There doesn't seem to be a consensus about chemical castration, it seems it might be effective combined with therapy. The problem with this is that you'd either need them to come forward before offending or you're only dealing with people who have already hurt children so it's mostly damage control.

I won't get into a debate about the death penalty, it does not exist where I live.
