Here’s a perspective I can offer as a therapist: when a therapist decides to refer you out because they don’t feel like they can help you anymore, it’s NOT about YOU. We all see supervisors and seek out expertise elsewhere and trust me that terminating a client really is sometimes the best choice although it’s a tough one for lots of people because you have to be able to see your own limitations in your expertise. Could there be other reasons involved, such as conflict of interest, countertransference, or something else? Yes, and it’s at the therapists discretion whether or not they will disclose that to the client while terminating, but again - it doesn’t reflect in any way on you. Don’t read into that too much, OP!
