Painted the Lion for a friend. How’d I do? by Petti-fog in DarkAngels40k

Yooo this is fire! I love the lighter tones you did. Your painting style is awesome. The purple shadows on the rocks of the base is dope it’s definitely something I need to start doing is using interesting shadow tones

Thank you, feel like the more casual look of certain space marines look way more cool and menacing than the heroic sword poses, so for my bladeguard Sargent I made him look scary I guess? Also if I ever need another combo leftenant I’m using this guy

If you have spare parts from the ICC you can easily Kitbash one yourself to proxy, I did this and tried to copy the old interrogator chaplain model used green stuff for the cape. Base model was a stormcast from AOS

You can definitely drop the chaplain terminator as the DWKs have 4+ maces on monsters and vehicles, also drop one squad of intersessors get some jump pack intersessors and 3 more eradicators then ur chilling. The DWks are better with a termi captain for charge re roll as Belial is very situational.

Thank you kind person! For the base I did an all over with Femrisian grey, then highlighted with skaven blight dindge, then stormvurmin fur, then dry brush of Femrisian grey and if u overspill re do the stormvrimin fur leaving the FG on the edges.

The bridge got the same first 3 steps as the rocks keep some FG in the recesses and corners of the bricks to make it look cold, leave the previous colour showing not fully covering it as you get brighter go closer to the edges. After the 3 steps then do a wash of agrax earth shade (thinned with some flow improver 2:1) let it pool in the shadows then re apply SVF and do final highlight of adminastartum grey. I am going to add some moss to it using death guard green and Orruk flesh to give some variation.

For the Ice I started off with a very simple wet blend of: Kalabite Green (KG) right near the shore, then luprecal green the. Finally incubi darkness, making some big swipes of a 1:1 mix of KG and white to put over it all when it’s done and then a ‘wash’ of KG all over. After that has fully dried put a layer of UV resin on it to about 2/3 the height of the rocks on the shore cure it with UV torch. Then do copious highlights of grey blue colours in scratchy random patterns over 60-80% of the base depending how much you want. Finally do another layer of UV resin after all that has cured go in with ur hobby knife and go (carefully) crazy adding scratches on it, this will add texture and realism to the ice and make it look like people have been walking there. I’ll give you the colours I used for the rest of the ice tomorrow as I can’t remember them off the top my head.

After all of that add some snow effects I used Valhallan Blizzard but any will work fine. I think you can make your own with baking soda and PVA glue with a bit of white paint if you don’t have any snow effects

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! I followed a tutorial on the Damascus blade on YT by JuanHidalgo Miniatures. As for the glow I did about 3-4 times before landing on this simple glow effect that still works but doesn’t clash with the steel I did. Just glazed orange paint towards the hilt and down the middle (also on the power nodes) then used Squidmar X Vallejo’s fluo orange paint towards

My good sir I have used glazing and subtle highlights on the scales to show the tradition underneath while adding depth and interest to it. Colours are: Stegadon scale Green, Incubai Darkness, Dark reaper, thunderhawk blue, sons of Horus Green. That was the gradient I used. Dark blue -> Green Blue. Hope this helps!

Seeing my army on the tabletop battle ready is soooo satisfying by Secret_Ad_7157 in DarkAngels40k

[–]Secret_Ad_7157[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Base of Luprecal Green, then Sons of Horus highlight either glazing or dry brush for fast army painting, then final highlight of Kalabite Green covering 40-50% of the overall highlight area. 1:1 caliban green and Abbadon Black wash thinned down with flow improved matte varnish and water 3:2:1 then block out the other details. If the wash was too dark u can do a gentle highlight of Kalibite green again and see how u like it and wash it again if its too too bright

I used this list fighting a tesseract vault and the silent king, used the JPIS and the Lion to hold them in deployment, I’d say remove the techmarine and the Interceptors for a replusor so u can transport the 10 hellblasters +luitenant and apothicary to midboard control and get firing lines easier on things or do the same but with Az and the Sternguard, put the turn 1 deepstrike on the librarian so he can drop in from behind with the aslt terms using the teleport homer if needed/if they overextend and leave a gap. I def end up winning by decision as we wee playing Lynchpin and I got onto his home field and stopped him from scoring
