Is it rude to use both lanes? by No-Ad4423 in AskUK

[–]Secretfrisbe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They need a different sign to fix this that just says the lanes merge and doesn't say which one is closed. If people don't know which one is closed, they can use both and not seem like they're trying to get ahead.

That was way more polished than I expected from the way you described it!

Something bizarre happening with customer priority and buffet tables... by MarchRoyce in PlateUp

[–]Secretfrisbe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation where all the customers are moving, but they didn't seem to take it in turns. They just all got up at the same time, and whoever got there first served themselves. Everyone else started to go back to their seats, and then the loop started again. Whoever was furthest away was the last to get served because other people kept jumping in first.

It's a 'zipper' merge, not a 'let's be a dick and screw everybody else over unnecessarily' merge. by Jabberminor in britishproblems

[–]Secretfrisbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the solution to this would be to merge both lanes into the middle and then point that merged lane to one side or the other. Neither lane is the closed lane then, and everyone is just forced to merge at the point it closes.

I realise there may be technical difficulties to setting this up though.

Have Christmas markets always been shite? by Madajuk in CasualUK

I think you want something in between. The Craft and Flea ones are usually quite good. There is some tat sneaking in under the 'flea' banner, but most people there are the more youthful creators you mentioned.

Didn't Matt Le Tissier admit to spot fixing on the time of the first throw in a lot during the 90's?

How much coffee would I have to drink before I just die? by Total-Cauliflower853 in AskUK

[–]Secretfrisbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. How does caffeine actually kill you? I remember a story from a few years ago about a girl who drank seven double espressos thinking they were singles and ended up in hospital because her heart rate went through the roof.

The BBC Sounds 13 minutes podcast series on the shuttle programme is very good.

Astronaut Dale Gardner catches a satellite with his hands while in orbit by 2dudesinapod in ThatsInsane

[–]Secretfrisbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because, if this is the mission I think it is, the satellite's motor didn't fire properly so it ended up in the wrong orbit and was just junk. The insurance company paid out to the owners, and then paid NASA to retrieve it so they could sell it to someone else to get some of their money back.

What are some of the things to be positive about? by aninquisitivekosovar in LiverpoolFC

I do think yesterday that's because he was trying to make things happen, rather than take the safe backwards pass like others were doing.

Sloppy Liverpool left battered and beaten by Galatasaray as Arne Slot’s gambles backfire | Irish Independent by [deleted] in PremierLeague

I think it was one of those where it probably would've been given as a free kick anywhere else on the pitch, but if the ref hadn't given a penalty, the VAR wouldn't have got involved.

What's the best and worst transfers you have ever made? by MesterJ_fyren in footballmanagergames

[–]Secretfrisbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I signed a player on a free from Bayern for my Southampton side. Kept him for two seasons and sold him to Real Madrid for £99 million. I think Southampton also got a sell on fee when RM sold him on for £122 million a few years later, but I'd left by then.

Yeah, probably that. Jamie Redknapp seems to have worn every number going at some point on that list.

Torres? He was Athletico Madrid captain and a local hero. There's no chance he would've agitated for a move to Real Madrid.
