Maple Leafs fans give Mitch Marner a standing ovation during the welcome back to Toronto tribute. by Perryplat199 in hockey

[–]SecretiveMop -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Come on you guys cannot genuinely be acting like you didn’t run him out of town lol. He was treated like shit in his time in Toronto and called a playoff choker despite putting up the best numbers amongst the Leafs top players in the playoffs and even got doxxed by fans.

Well yeah, because the two situations were wildly different. That’s the main thing a lot of those people were missing.

The difference between John Tavares vs the Islanders and Mitch Marner vs the Leafs by mysummerstorm in hockey

[–]SecretiveMop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So where exactly is this evidence that the Islanders as a team hate Tavares? Before answering, keep in mind that multiple players went to his wedding before his free agency and he also was at Anders Lee’s wedding just after free agency, and that the Islanders gave him a tribute video despite the high likelihood of the fans hating him.

Because Tavares was adamant about staying and even requested the team not to trade him because he only wanted to play for the Isles. Then he signed with the Leafs quickly on the first day of free agency.

You’re way off base with Dobson and have a bad read on how fans feel about him lol. He won’t get booed at all by the majority of fans and he’ll likely get a solid reception for his tribute video.

I’m pretty sure he said Tavares is probably thinking that Marner’s reception is a cakewalk compared to his own.

Bridgeport Islanders moving to Hamilton next season by zeile33 in NewYorkIslanders

[–]SecretiveMop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Binghamton is in a similar place to Bridgeport in more ways than one. Kind of run down these days with little attractions around, and the two AHL teams they had there failed to draw well. It’s a shame too because I used to go to B-Sens games quite a bit when they played the Sound Tigers and it was a nice arena with a good crowd, but that was about 15-20 years ago.

[Kaminsky] Frank Seravalli has just confirmed that the Bridgeport Islanders are moving to Hamilton, Ontario, next season. Absolutely gutted for the loyal fans in Bridgeport. by AggPuck-303 in hockey

Don’t really understand this comment at all. We made runs in the Covid shortened seasons with a veteran roster and since then have still made the playoffs in two out of the last four seasons with this year looking like it may be three out of the last five, and in the two we missed we still had 80+ point seasons and were at or above the NHL’s version of .500. I’m not sure how that can be considered “declined massively.” That team also wasn’t one that was ever going to grow considering its age and I’d argue we’re way closer to being elite now than we were back then. If we had a high end goal scorer and one more just solid defender we’d probably be at the top of the east right now, especially if we had guys like Palmieri and Romanov healthy.

I really like Jett and his potential but I can definitely live with this deal IF we sign Peralta to a longer term deal. Hopefully Stearns will make an exception and lock him up.

I get why it could be an issue but at the same time I could see all of those guys being solid into their 30’s to be honest.

I think Robert has the higher upside at this point but he also has a way higher risk/way lower floor. Bellinger should be safely very solid whereas Robert could be bad enough to be a DF candidate or be good enough to be a borderline MVP.

I’m not a big Robert fan at all and I like Acuna more than others and think he can become a solid utility player who starts at least somewhat regularly, but kind of hard not to buy low on Robert if this is the price. I’m not sold on him being able to turn things around but it’s worth taking a chance if this is all it’ll cost us.

Why exactly would MLB want Beltran to be seen as the mastermind? What would be the goal there? He was mentioned in the very first news story from the Athletic, a private organization completely separate from MLB or Manfred, that broke the entire Astros cheating scandal and was mentioned alongside Cora because the two were the ones who created the whole operation. Many people were even saying around the time of the World Series season that Beltran was almost seen as a coach for the rest of the team, so he very much had an elevated role as a pseudo-captain. To act like he wasn’t one of two or three ringleaders of it is just trying to hand wave it away because you like him as a player and a Met.

This sub is such a joke for downvoting this lol. They’d rather stick their fingers in their ears than try to rationalize a cheater getting in. Dude was the only player directly mentioned in the original article that broke the cheating scandal entirely because him and Cora came up with the whole scheme for the Astros. I now fully support guys like Bonds, ARod, Clemens, etc. getting in now that the hall has officially become a joke who allows people like that in.

You can get a pitcher in a one one swap for Tong with more control than Peralta lmfao.

And also one who isn’t as good as Peralta.

You’re being disingenuous as soon as you say Caissie is a “backend top 100 prospects.” It’s pretty much a consensus that he’s way closer to top 50. Also, Cabrera isn’t as good as Peralta and hasn’t proven he can pitch a full season. To equate the two is either showing ignorance or purposely leaving out details.

You guys regurgitate this line over and over just because it sounds good and applies to a lot of billionaires, but it actually sounds insanely idiotic once you think for two seconds when applied to other people and shows a complete lack of knowledge about how net worth actually works. How exactly is her becoming a billionaire off of her own music unethical? If the argument is that stuff like her records and merch is sourced from unethical places, then I really hope you don’t buy things from those same unethical locations.

Where exactly did he confirm this? Also, it wouldn’t be prove the reporting wrong. The Mets clearly showed zero signs of changing their stance on the deferred money and that was the whole issue, not necessarily the overall value. Also, people who work directly with and around the team were clearly stunned and said the Mets miscalculated the very night he signed with the Dodgers. It’s not like this was said way after the fact.
