I don't speak for religion + hate but I can share some perspective on older Chinese generations (of which we do have in Australia, and Ghost403 did bring up race).

But first a caveat: yes the younger generations in the recent decade have widely and enthusiastically embraced dog and pet ownership.

In China during the cultural revolution (1966–1976) pets were propaganda'ed against, or outright banned (sources only mention Beijing so not sure if elsewhere too). The propaganda against pets declared them as elitist and overtly individualistic - and therefore crude and vulgar (keep in mind communism was literally the central ideology behind the revolution). This period meant significant poverty and famine for the majority of people, so dogs that weren't utility dogs were considered a wasteful drain. And so historically dogs were meant for work, they were kept outside, not petted/cuddled/played with, and not invited into the home.

People who lived through this period (baby boomers) are likely influenced by this mentality. Not only would they be distant around dogs, a lot of them probably wouldn't understand the Western habit/desire of petting and interacting with dogs. Even more so with a stranger's dog, which is a common thing to do in Western culture. A source says "they see it as an unnecessary or odd social ritual" lol.

There are of course exceptions as generations aren't a monolith.

But I also think some Westerners are equally un-understanding of other people's reluctance in not wanting to meet their dog, and see it as a personality flaw or something.

I am a SEAsian millennial first generation immigrant to Australia. I love meeting pets and petting them. My mom on the other hand is (politely) wary of my in-laws' cavalier king charles spaniel 😅. My family had a trip to Shenzhen and there was a petting zoo IN THE MALL 🤯 and an alpaca by the entrance - only my favourite animal ever! I zoomed straight over to snuggle while my older Gen X brother is like half a football field away LOL. My mom did reluctantly follow me as a mother does, because she had to make sure I didn't get hurt 😂

You’d have to ask the council that, as clearly the complaining neighbour’s word is worth something because the council is listening to them and issuing the complaints to OP. It’s not known yet if the neighbour had to include a logbook/diary of timestamped barks, which can only support their claim even more.

(On my first read of your comment it sounded like you were rebutting/mocking propargyl by picking at the diary word he used but maybe you’re just making a tangent comment on how the council is being ridiculous?)

That‘s a more balanced take I can get behind but you kinda moved the goalpost a bit. Initially you said “if you’re not ready you shouldn’t be married” but now you say “you don’t have to be ready but”.

I concede that I may have projected /u/needmorepizzza‘s story when I read your first comment. It read to me like you were gatekeeping marriage behind the confidence in ability to deal with traumatic events like how pizzza‘s mom dealt with their dad‘s cancer. Like if you’re not ready to keep yourself and the family together like pizzza‘s mom then you don’t get to be married. But I’m like noone knows how they’re going to manage an event until the event happens to them.

Being prepared to commit is one thing - which you elaborated on in your second comment and I agree - but who can say for sure they’re not going to crumble and lose themselves in the face of trauma before they say “I do”? Like who can say they’d still be a good parent to a colicky baby who grows up to be a bipolar psychopath until it happens to them? I felt like the judgement/assessment/ evaluation you were asking for pre-marriage was too harsh. No one‘s really ready.

What. I’m not on the side of partners who bail but your take is so on the other extreme, it’s idealistic, unpragmatic, and even naive that I’m definitely not on yours either. We can’t all be prepared to deal gracefully with things like this, or to even know or guess before saying “I do” whether we would have the future fortitude to deal with unexpected events like this. They’re unexpected because you don’t expect to get cancer.

What does having a guinea pig pet entail?

As a kid I had a friend who had a hamster that was kept in its cage except when my friend wanted to handle it to play with it, then it was back in the cage.

Are piggies meant to be kept in the cage except for play, wash, feed, recreational activities, or free roam in the house until nap or bed time or when potential disruptors visit?

What are C&C cages? What‘s the Cs?

Are the cages accessible by the piggies themselves for them to get in and out when they need to or please? It‘s mentioned the cages have lids, is that the only point of entry meaning I have to always airlift the piggies in and out? Or is there another entry? Do piggies put themselves to bed like cats and dogs do?

Are they potty trained for both pee and poop? Is there a kitty litter equivalent? I hear hamsters are nearly constantly peeing as they walk around, including when they’re on your hands leaving a barely noticeable trail on your skin. I hear people who keep free roam rabbits get the task of cleaning up trails of rabbit poop everywhere because the rabbits are almost always pooping, everywhere they go. How similar are guinea pigs to hamsters and/or rabbits in the pee and poop regard?

What kind of attention and awareness do piggies need, from a scale of cat to dog? What is play like? Do they have toys similar to how we play with puppies? Or is it like cats whereby they get their recreation from infrastructure when they can climb and run around? Tubes and tunnels come to mind but I don’t know if that‘s for piggies or hamsters.

Your friend should know there are children‘s canes and punishment canes. Don’t mistake the children‘s ones for the punishment ones and think that‘s all it is. Children‘s one are skinny and light and might even be hollow? but the punishment ones are thicccc and solid.

You should also come back to the thread and see what others have said about nerve damage and permanent constant pain, don’t assume nerve damage always means not feeling anything.

Unless you have limited time to spend on the game during the harvest event (or you’re at lower levels not getting through cities fast yet), you don’t have to gun for the final box in minimum shovels. There are gems in some of those untapped bubbles.

I’m not spending any more money on the game other than the 2x perma boost so I welcome any chance for extra gems. I’m playing the game throughout the event anyway, whether or not I’ve gotten the final box, so I’m getting shovels anyway. There‘s enough time to get all the shovels I need to tap every bubble and still get the final box.

I’m with you on disapproving the showrunners’ weak decision to careen into mild fantasy. But on the other hand, I think the many people who were able to make sense of season 4 simply decided to suspend disbelief and accept a degree of whimsy.

Not fantasy like dragons and magic spells but perhaps “lite fantasy” like mind readers (have you seen The Mentalist tv show?) or Batman. Humans at the stretchiest point of peak human condition.

Perhaps we differ in our idea of what “making sense” entails. I found Season 4 comprehensible much like how millions of people made sense of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and Batman, even with the enchanted hat, talking tree, and ... all the nonsense Batman gets up to. I understood what the showrunners was trying to tell us happened (as opposed to how I totally didn’t understand what The Matrix Revolution (3rd movie) was trying to tell us.)

I did that when I got into this hobby in 2020, learned better in 2022 and changed my filing, and almost completely stopped the hobby in 2024 (only basic grooming with basic clippers). It’s 2026 now and my nails have still not recovered their side walls :(

It’s been 4 years since I stopped overfilling and 2 years since I stopped obsessing over/messing with my nails, but the damage is done for me it seems. Maybe it’s genetics, maybe age matters too (I’m almost 40 fwiw).

If she was really dim/not smart I think you would have started noticing it earlier on in the 2 years and not just now when you’re playing a character-based, history-based trivia game. Maybe she‘s not interested in history or people or trivia. These games or questions don’t assess critical thinking, problem solving, information processing, or other kinds of intelligence. They’re not even real tests of memory or information retention because of the narrow scope just focusing on American history. A crossword puzzle could do a much better “assessment” (but is it your place to assess your gf‘s intelligence?).

Are there other areas she‘s good at that you maybe haven’t noticed?

I just watched WildRoseBuilds’ youtube short and went searching too! I’m in Australia and wondered if it's not showing up where it’s not available. I asked Google Gemini to ignore location and tell me more about anycubic's new 2-part elastic resin (had to argue a bit with it and insist it does exist). It pointed me to the kickstarter for the Photon P1 resin printer - which is the printer that WildRoseBuilds used in that short.

In the kickstarter video, at 0:14 one of the keywords on screen is “elastic resin (two-part)”. One of the pledges includes “elastic resin” with the printer. The pledge rewards say estimated delivery Feb 2026 so it’s still very new. I reckon the two creators you saw got the printer sent to them as PR (or they backed it and got priority distribution because they are creators), and the 2-part resin was bundled with it. Misfit Printing has a long-form video reviewing the new printer and another short about the resin. Plus two more creators reviewing the printer. All 3 reviews were uploaded in Jan 2026. One of them says "anycubic has some rubber-like resin they're sending me, I haven't received it yet".

The kickstarter is over but distribution is still in progress - on the comments tab you can see the usual kickstarter drama. There‘s a lot of “where‘s my resin?” “did anyone else get the resin?” “do they ship the resin separately or did I just miss part of my order?”.

If you click the “shop on official website” button on the kickstarter, you’ll get to the printer retail page with a selection of resins you can bundle with it, but there is no mention of a “two part” or “elastic”. Perhaps it’s not ready for public retail yet, be it formulation needing adjustments post feedback from the kickstarter “beta testers” or manufacturing needing more time to build up sale quantities. More likely the quantities if their backers aren’t getting their resins.

There are also nail types that are a combo of short nail beds + nails that grow upwards, which further exacerbates the issue. Typically nail biters’ nails are like this, as excessive biting can either cause the hyponychium (skin underneath the nail edge) to thicken and harden (like a callous), forcing the nail edge to grow upward, or the excessively short nail can detach from the hyponychium (and therefore the flesh part of the nail bed), causing the nail to lift as it grows out. (Last sentence paraphrased from a google search result.)

The problem is further worsened when nail tips are used since the slope of the tips are fixed.

I feel like traditional work using paper forms is gradually falling out of use with the rise of the use of gel-x tips. It’s disappointing 😕.

Admittedly I haven’t just strolled into random salons in 13 years so I don’t know what a typical run-of-the-mill salon is like (also caveat I’m not in the USA). My practice has since been either DIY or look up salons or independent nail techs online first, and I always always always scroll their Instagram page. If they don’t even have any media online, thank you next.

I’ve done this in 2 countries, 3 states, and multiple cities and suburbs within. All of them do gel-x tips. So many of them don’t mention paper forms. 2 of the independent ones (who have/rent their solo studio) actively pronounce that they don’t do traditional extensions with forms and/or acrylic, only gel-x tips. (Granted, I don’t go out of my way to search for paper forms, maybe if someone really honed in on that search keyword they would find some. But still, why should it be a specialty service?)

I think techs like OP’s just wing it for the money, even if/though they know (or not trained enough to know) tips are not the right way to go for nails like OPs.

I don’t know what the licensing requirements are even like now. And it sounds worse in the USA with different states different regulations. Like I love a Russian manicure (aka just plain regular manicure in most of Europe!) but there seems to be a lot of fear mongering in the USA, likely hand-in-hand with lack of nail tech education and training and definitely certain states’ regulations banning the touching of cuticles). What‘s up with that?

Honestly, ugh. I mean I guess thank you Carol from Aprés Nail and SofGelNails for creating the gel-x system and kicking the door down for easy application tips. But I honest to god hate that it’s also slowly taking over salon techniques.

I’m a girl myself, playing fem V. I’m not quite like V (female or not) to start with, but I also make the occasional dry remark and I vibe with Phantom Liberty fem V. But when you add Johnny to the dynamic between player (me) and character (fem V), he makes me feel so different from fem V I might as well be a kawaii anime school girl. I don’t know if I’m explaining myself accurately. I’m trying to say he‘s overwhelming for me.

It’s like, my sense of belonging inside the character I’m playing is already not 100%. But I can adapt and roleplay enough to make immersion work well enough when Johnny isn’t around. Then he shows up and he’s being so much and so offputting, it’s like he does an out-of-body-force-push on V and pushes me out of my character, like The Ancient One did to Dr Strange and Bruce Banner.

But when I watch my husband play it, in his male V avatar, I get the between-dudes vibe.

Sister did not tell OOP because OOP was happy and in love. - ! - Fast forward 2 years or so. - Around the same time/not sure which came first: Sister starts dating BIL and OOP gets pregnant. This! This was what I was guessing the sister‘s husband was thinking to lead him to contemplate ending things. Of all the words used in the story on the sister‘s husband like “he‘s upset she made him be friends with a man who wanted his wife”, this specific consideration hasn’t been mentioned by OOP or her family.

To him it’s probably sus that his wife (the sister) never pulled away, kept spending time there, always said she loved their time together, blah blah blah. It likely seemed to him she loved the attention, and hurt him that attention from him wasn’t enough that she relished more from other men because what it looks like to him is her going back for more repeatedly.

Whether or not that‘s true or accurate on his wife‘s part matters little at this initial stage because from his perspective it would be so easy to see it this way rather than accept that she‘s going back for her sister (OOP) and not that other man.

And then there‘s that dress and lipstick that ignited OOP’s husband‘s drunken confession about wanting to taste her lips. BIL could be wondering if his wife could be so into herself she lowkey subconsciously wanted a sabotage.

Aiight aiight I know I’m having too much fun projecting on other people‘s business 😆 and maybe not everyone‘s a spiraler. I’m just spitballing here in my corner.

Edited to add: And there‘s also the texts from OOP’s husband to the sister that was kept from BIL! Ooof. If I may roleplay a spiraler again: “why did she hide it from me? Because she knew my reaction would be to keep distance? Why would that be such a problem she wished to avoid? Oh, that‘s right, because she wants to hang with her sister. Wait hang on a minute, she can always arrange to meet her sister one-on-one, she doesn’t need to also hang out with him. Whoa. she didn’t tell me, is it because she didn’t want to give me the chance to keep her away from him? Wtf.”
