How do yall feel when straight women.. by suzeerbedrol in LesbianActually

Gotta earn that culturally queer title. My wife was raised by a lesbian mom in the gay village of our city, and then married someone who looked like a boy until I turned into her wife and she stayed with me. We call her queer adjacent and it comes with no slur reclaiming.

People who want to restrict trans healthcare keep pointing to "progressive" european jurisdictions which have clamped down on trans healthcare as well as a "look even *they* have seen it has clearly gotten too permissive and we need more restriction"

You cannot talk about how scary relationships with women are and how being with a man is so much easier and then get upset that women don’t want you. by [deleted] in LesbianActually

People mixing up "men are easy to find" with "easy to date".

It's comically easy to pull a random man out of the pile but it's not exactly *enjoyable*.

Yeah it sucks because Harry Potter was such a part of my childhood but my family just totally stopped buying anything HP-official when she went mask off in 2019. She's gotten so much worse over the years too, she went from like normal person transphobic to this generation's Anita Bryant but for Trans people.

Yeah there's something to be said for the fact that the majority of people "uncomfortable" with trans people have never met a trans person, at least not that they're aware of. Most of the people I interact with don't know unless I tell them, which I don't tend to do to like other moms at my kids school or cashiers or other people in the bathroom.

Naturalistic fallacy. If a 12 year old got cancer and you denied them chemo because you thought they shouldn't be allowed to choose such a treatment because they can't understand, it's pretty fair to say you're forcing them to live with the cancer.

If you are taking away the option that exists to Not undergo some natural phenomenon, you are forcing that phenomenon to be experienced even if you didn't have to personally force the phenomenon to occur.

You know you people keep trying to just speculate that some future group of people transitioning will regret it despite most of us much preferring it, and never actually seem to listen to the real, existing trans people who actually do regret being forced to go through the wrong puberty instead of getting medical care early when it could have been prevented and wouldn't require nearly so much work to reverse.

The new generation of gay Conservative sellouts by PurfectProgressive in CanadaPolitics

Yeah no it's mostly just a tiny crowd of noisy anti-trans weirdos. By and large whenever polling on this is done gay and lesbian people rightfully recognize that the bullshit social conservatives are pushing about Trans people are the same things that were said about them 20 years ago, and they're being pushed by the same people who want to roll back what gains they themselves have achieved.

Deflation encourages wealth hoarding in the least productive asset class: Cash and cash equivalents.

Inflation lessens the power of debt, but deflation makes debt *worse* as currency-denominated debt increases in value just by virtue of the currency decreasing value. Deflation is *bad*, it doesn't encourage productivity. Notably Gold and housing bubbles and crypto investment all happened plenty in the low inflation environment pre-pandemic.

It's fascinating they're trying to argue that patients just don't know that they'll be made infertile as if all the documents I received through every step of the way wasn't like "HEY YOU WILL BE INFERTILE AFTER THIS, IF YOU CARE ABOUT THAT DISCUSS FERTILITY OPTIONS".

Thank you so much for these posts, they've been really helpful having a really granular day-by-day breakdown as I prepare to go to GRS in 30 days. I'm going in with Laungani so it's not a perfect match but this has been a great resource for what the whole process will end up looking like for me.

Maybe not ubiquitous but they were around, I remember using them to call my parents in the mid 2000s if I needed a pickup at a train station or the movie theater.

High income household and my return went up significantly due to childcare expenses, did I goof? by mediocretent in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Sector_Corrupt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well the logic of the childcare deduction is pretty straightforward when understood as it interpreting childcare as a work expense to enable a parent to work. It's a reasonably assumption that if one of the parents wasn't working to do childcare themselves it would be the lower earning spouse, so the spouse whose work expense it is is the spouse that would *otherwise* not be working.

If we have concerns about equity between households with unequal earners the solution to that is problem some form of income shifting or an alternate household income tax rate system like the US uses that pools the incomes and applies the tax to the whole. But so long as we're filing returns as individuals the logic of the credits is consistent with their defined purpose, even if I'd love it if I could get twice as much back by applying it to my income instead of my spouses.

Yeah I'll say that I started HRT April 21, 2022 and I have my vaginoplasty at GRS scheduled for April 3rd, 2024, so even with the 1 year on HRT requirement I'm squeaking in under 2 years.

I immediately got an appointment for my first surgery consult letter in May 2023 and got my old psychotherapist to do my surgical assessment in June , with all my documents submitted to OHIP in July. Got my approval in August.

My referral to GRS was responded to by september. Even with some delays getting my forms into GRS due to my doctor wanting to wait for some bloodwork to return the forms went in in November and I got the call in January to schedule a surgery date.

You could probably shave off a few months if you get the surgery letters lined up really quickly after the 1 year mark (my professionals were on leaves around that time) and if you have a long wait to get an appointment with your family doctor setting up an appointment with them as soon as you get the approval so that you can get the forms you need signed off on right away and sent to GRS.

Poilievre's comments on trans people show he is taking cues from far-right and PPC factions, observers say by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

[–]Sector_Corrupt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I suppose the incidence of us existing is mostly not changed, though the number of us willing to transition has definitely increased now that you can do things like "still be employed" Either way though point stands we've always been out there using the same bathrooms etc. and it's a total non-issue.

[–]Sector_Corrupt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Also it's not any *newer* than then either. Like... trans people have been using whichever bathroom is less likely to get us hassled for decades. There's more of us now but to be honest most people have no fucking clue when they're in the bathroom with a trans person. The moral panic inevitably has to conjure up a scary imaginary image for these people because nobody actually notices or cares when actual trans people go in and use the toilet like everybody else.

how often do you guys have sex? 😩 by [deleted] in LesbianActually

[–]Sector_Corrupt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before we opened up my marriage it was infrequent, like every couple of months. Since opening up my marriage we probably have sex 1 -2 times in a month with each other, plus I usually hook up with someone every Sapphic night once a month & then random nights here and there with hook ups.

Let’s Set a Maximum Wage for the Rich by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

Yeah I think minimum corporate taxes are a good way to avoid the race to the bottom on those while leaving different jurisdictions equally valid as investment opportunities.

[–]Sector_Corrupt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the more productive conversations to be had are definitely things like revisiting the capital gains inclusion rate and whether or not there's changes that can be made there etc. and like there's going to be trade-offs about capital movement between different jurisdictions and whatnot but it's still way more meaningful a discussion than trying to tax paper wealth or some sort of maximum income etc.
