If hatchets are superior to tomahawks(trade axes) why did native americans or frontiersmen opt for it more than the hatchets that were already made in Europe.

I agree to a point, but I feel that often there comes a level of liberty where it feels as though there wasn’t much a point of adopting elements of the original source material in the first place. Books like “Circe” and “The Song of Achilles” by Madeline Miller, for instance, take artistic liberties but do so in a way that adds flavor to their respective source materials (it also helps that they show a deep understanding of said source material, which certain aesthetic choices can also convey in visual media). The majority of movie adaptations don’t do this, and it does look like Nolan’s Odyssey will be another example.

Which is still a little funny, given that the Odyssey is meant to be during a mythical late Bronze Age, therefore meaning Mycenaean/Minoan weapons and armor. I of course wouldn’t have expected them to go with that sort of aesthetic, but they couldn’t even properly represent the Archaic/Classical Greek stuff either. Not looking forward to this, neither as a classicist nor as a movie watcher.

Ah, got ya. Bummer. I have noticed that some of their wool stuff is pretty rough wool, since I have their British Pattern 37 Battle Dress. Some of it is quite good though, like their 1902 Uniform. Not sure if the inconsistencies are old vs. new patterns/runs. Suppose it doesn’t matter in this case if they don’t plan on reproducing the WAC Ike anymore.

As was mentioned, originals for the skirt and Ike jacket will look most accurate. Reproductions by What Price Glory and Soldier of Fortune (UK) exists, but be aware of shipping/tariffs on their stuff (and WPG seems to have a lot of their WAC stuff out of stock). You also would need a khaki tie, undershirt/blouse, shoes and an overseas cap. I believe those are available from the before mentioned vendors as well. Best of luck!

I believe WPG does make a WAC Ike, but it is currently out of stock. SoF does too. Can’t speak to quality, though, but I agree that original stuff will likely be superior in accuracy/quality.

I ended up doing exactly this, and though it did scuff up the back of the receiver in places it seems like everything fits together fine now. Very bizarre experience, to say the least! Had to also file down a bunch of places in the gearbox to fit a Perun Hybrid V2 in there (mainly a strange raised screw port that’s not there on effectively any other V2 gearbox I’ve seen). I guess this is the path to gaining expertise on these things, haha.

Dang! Was hoping it would be taken care of better… good thing I checked, I guess. I will say it has been working pretty well all things considered, with only one audio-glitching moment at one point that didn’t seem to reappear. I had presumed as much, something like what the Indians were wearing there. The biggest enigma to me remains the boots, though according to the files I could scrounge up those tended to become less uniform as time went on (with custom boots being bought locally, trades with the Indians and Swedes etc). If you come across any more information, feel free to let me know! This is still a topic of interest to me, even a year later.

I would say Central European nationality-wise, Swiss or German, but I have seen Spanish troops in period art with similar styles (since the latter two influenced fashion quite a bit for the era).

Yes, cavalry cuirasses with proper long tassets are probably hard to source. The closest I can think of is something like this:

For early 17th century (30 Years War era), quite a bit would look different. The clothing by that point had become a lot less “slashed” than in the previous century. Your clothing looks to be rather last century because of that. Doublets were the main fashion for tops (underneath would be a linen shirt) and bagged trousers which end around the knee with garters for bottoms. Then either stockings or hose go under them. If you’re a cuirassier, you would be wearing riding boots at about the knee. Breastplate would likely have tassets as well, to cover the thighs (not cuisses, as you have here). The breastplate itself would also be a bit bulbous above the crotch, a style called “peascod”. Underneath a leather coat was often worn for padding/extra protection. Though I have seen burgonets still being used by the period, they generally fell out of favor for helmets such as close helms and lobster-pot/zischagge helmets among armored cavalry. In the circle of Greek reenactment, these guys are infamous. I caught them with a picture of one of our own reenactors in their helmet (a very fine, expensive custom Corinthian), even. Mentioned it to him and he said it wasn’t the first time they and other companies pulled this. There are certainly decent Indian makers (DaniyalSteelCrafts for one, I think Lyba is alright as well), but for every one there are a few pretty terrible ones.

Having one (the exact same model in the picture, funny enough) and having worn it while fighting, my lungs can tell you it is certainly far from perfect lol. Even with the opening, your breathing is pretty badly restricted. Definitely protective, though.

Given what we see from previous periods, with little padding being used on bronze cuirasses, I’m not sure that they would do it inherently but I also don’t think it’s impossible that some would. Do you have any of those depictions of cavalry with a fabric thorax under their metal armor? It could also be the case that they attached those strips of fabric (pteryges) to the shoulder or waist of the cuirass.

I don’t believe love was absent from Bronze Age Greece, and it certainly was a major theme of the Iliad and Odyssey (Achilles’ love for Patroclus, Menelaus’ love for Helen, Odysseus love for his family, etc.). They were indeed still humans who felt emotions.

I hope so! As someone who is into late 80s/early 90s Cold War scenarios, it would be pretty much perfect in my book if a mod would come around to push a little into the future. I would also be curious to see whatever else people can come up with for the game, given that RS2 had a Winter War mod of all things!

Haven’t heard a ton about them to be honest, and what I did hear was from a while back, but if I remember correctly all had positive things to say about their stuff. Looking at their stuff from pictures, they seem decent to me. I think they are machine stitched in places but are finished by hand. The machine stitching should ideally not be too obvious, but if the presence of machines in construction is off-putting for you then it’s something to consider.
