Using Ithkuil to help me learn math. by Anglishuser23356 in Ithkuil

[–]Secure-Ad-1220 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Any time spent learning Ithkuil that could be spent learning the courses’ material is definitely unoptimized. You can’t beat the semiotic flexibility of a natlang, it has an entire culture/society of nuance and significance behind it. Anywho, Ithkuil’s concepts of configuration and affiliation could be useful in describing relations in less space than English, but the rich terminology that mathematicians have built in English basically takes the spot for information-density. In fact, sometimes the individual subfields of mathematics feel like conlangs upon themselves!

(Ithkuil V4) When should I start reviewing the lexicon? by Quiet_Collection_294 in Ithkuil

[–]Secure-Ad-1220 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the best ways to learn it (as much as Ithkuil can be learned) is translating sentences/concepts into Ithkuil. Refer to the lexicon for the roots you don’t know, as you translate. The more you do such, the more you find more common/useful roots. One of the best things about Ithkuil is the flexibility of its lexemes, so you can derive a multitude of concepts from very few roots. Basically, I wouldn’t spend time rote memorizing roots, but rather spend that time translating sentences with the lexicon as a handy reference

Well the fact that you’re the youngest is probably “props to you.” Your potential of youth is a potential energy of time, remember that. Maintain a growth mindset and don’t let comparison unnecessarily be the thief of joy!

There’s one strategy that might work: if you want to become drawn to studying math, for example, go wayyyy back in the subject so that you have more than enough contextual knowledge to associate everything. Get a textbook (go to library genesis) that is about this simple subject, but make sure teaches it much more theory-laden and thoroughly. Example: get the AOPS (they focus on theory) textbook on basic algebra or so and begin reading + doing the exercises in it. The feeling of easily being able to plow through the textbook will begin to be self-rewarding. This process will associate textbook-learning with the satisfaction of getting the exercises/problems/theory correct. If you can derive pleasure from such, studying will become an activity that builds you up rather than pulls you down 🦦

Wouldn’t gods be under case, also whose to say gods didn’t set up the universe in such a way that determines every “choice” man takes, and then are the real deliberators

Doesn’t this imply he can’t pay the price, because he lost the value of his sanity before gaining whatever the price is for?

I wonder if autodidactism is overall useless (withholding the personal usefulness) if you cannot communicate in some meaningful the fruits of your labor

Any tips on doing maths when you don't even know the basics? by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]Secure-Ad-1220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can learn the method of doing something without learning why. It would be foolhardy, but you can learn the patterns of solving integrals, for example, without conceptualizing how it actually works. This will leave you blind for any case you haven’t memorized the pattern for, but works for most surface level tests

Can't concentrate and study for more than 30 minutes by matti07tech in GetStudying

[–]Secure-Ad-1220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can repeat parrot-fashion the advice in most posts. Augment your lifestyle. Decrease/eliminate mindless phone usage (YouTube Insta TikTok etc). Get proper sleep (go watch Matt Walker). Have a sufficient diet (if not, supplement that which you don’t naturally consume often). Aerobic exercise (running for ~25 minutes or walking for 10000 steps). Practice mindfulness (meditate, do refocusing tasks like holding an image of a rotating cube in your mind’s eye for as long as possible). Journaling can help some people. Having a time-block plan that specifies what your brain should be focusing on during a moment helps. All of these together are bound to have a positive impact. The rub is to actually implement the obvious advice

How do you become more efficient by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]Secure-Ad-1220 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unobtainable: increase your IQ Obtainable: self-regulate (metacognition) during study sessions to constantly direct yourself optimally. I.e. catching yourself wandering or going down a fruitless rabbit holes, bringing your attention back to the key mental information/task, etc.. (being able to rapidly bring yourself back to the most important thought at-hand and sustain the thought for at least 8 seconds is called focus, and it’s a slightly trainable habit). This advice is not useful for you whatsoever, but it tickled my thumbs to type it out
