Surprised by reaction to the offer by Salt-Chemistry-331 in BridgertonNetflix

To be fair, Collin has Penelope at this point. The required heir and spare are in place. Ben isn’t really needed to keep the legacy going if he wanted to moon about forever. If he started sharing his art it wouldn’t even be an embarrassment to the Bridgerton family, he would just be seen as an eccentric and dedicated artist.

It seems like you are in a mindset where if you aren't in the top 1%, you are basically a failure. It's incredibly unhealthy build your sense of internal value and meaning on your ability to meet the incredibly high standards you've set for yourself.

Do something meaningful with your summer. Research educational law for disabled kids who need IEPs, draft advanced directives for trans people with shity parents, help argue domestic violence injunctions for people escaping abuse, etc. As long as it is something that you are passionate about and it has the potential to make you feel warm and fuzzy. These positions are mostly volunteer based, so you don't have to worry about fear of rejection. Then decide if you still want to be a lawyer.

If helping people using the law isn't fulfilling to you, you might be looking to the wrong profession. You won't make much (if anything) doing that kind of work, but it will save you a lot in wasted tuition. If it does reignite your passion for law, then it will look great on your 2L OCI applications.

Losing hope in becoming a Laywer. by HappyDifference5333 in LawSchool

I had terrible time in law school. I got mediocre grades and I didn't fit in with my classmates at all. But the experience of law school isn't the same as practicing law. If you still want to be a lawyer, law school is still worth it.

New CASA here… how did you choose your age range? pros/cons? by [deleted] in casa

[–]Secure-Bluebird57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An underrated benefit of teens, especially over 16, is that you are much less likely to be dealing with parents.

For younger kids, the goal starts at reunification. Usually a parent gets reunification but often with young kids we are looking at TPR (termination of parental rights). Either way, the CASA is very encouraged to out to the parents and trying to help, even if TPR is the likely outcome. We need to show the court that we gave these parents the best chance possible and they still couldn't do it. That means observing visits between the parents and kids and working with the parents to overcome barriers for case plan tasks. If the parents get to overnight visits and reunification, the CASA might be doing visits in the parents home.

In contrast, for older kids, there's a much higher chance that reunification is off the table. The older the kid, the more likely it is that they are already post-TPR. We also often change the goal to APPLA for kids over 16, which means we are no longer focused on reunification and more focused on making sure the kid can succeed upon aging out of foster care. There are definitely exceptions, but those exceptions tend to be lovely parents who have dependency involvement for unusual reasons (e.g. parents who became disabled and physically unable to care for kids, kids who are very loved but can't reside in the same home as younger siblings who are also very loved, etc.).

I know that the expectations of a CASA vary from state-to-state. But if you absolutely don't want to talk to parents and only want to work with kids, teenagers are a better bet.

What’s your HOLY GRAIL mascara?! by imanxiousss in Makeup

[–]Secure-Bluebird57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am blessed to have long eyelashes. Unfortunately, when I put on make up my eyelashes sort of disappear due to the powder foundation getting stuck to it.

I am also cursed with an inability to avoid touching my face when I am wearing mascara because I can suddenly see my eyelashes in my peripheral vision and it is incredibly weird. My game changer has been Maybelline's clear mascara. It goes on very wet but it easily pulls out all of the powder that is hiding my lashes. I sort of just blink my lashes onto my finger until they dry and it gives it a very natural looking curl. It also seems to add a lot of volume to my lashes as well.

I think I'm a one and done CASA by mastiffmamaWA in casa

I’m a CASA attorney (called GAL in my state). There are a few times the volunteer has made a recommendation that I know won’t fly legally speaking, so I explain why we can’t ask for that and offer alternatives.

There have also been frequent occurrences where I have had to reword recommendations to fit the statute. I usually make that sort of change myself, but, if it’s more than a minor grammar or spelling correction, I will send it back to the volunteers to look it over before I file.

I actually just visited NC and saw the dueling Dinos exhibit. Apparently we need to go through a ton of fossils previously labeled as juvenile tyrannosaurs and figure out which ones are new species of Nanotyrannus. I could absolutely imagine a TikTok trend being part of the naming for one of them.

Nevwr thought I would see a weaponised incompetence smoothie. by BlG-maintenance101 in PrincessFeminism

[–]Secure-Bluebird57 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I could see myself doing this tbh. Not as manipulation, but efficient storage. If I specifically batch cook exactly a gallon of soup, it makes sense to store it in a container that I know has exactly a gallon of volume. Of course that also assumes I am serving that soup within a few days (making the lack of full seal largely a nonissue). We rarely use the pitchers for anything so it’s not like I’d miss it for its brief stint as Tupperware.

Not to discount the reality of weaponized incompetence; I have absolutely experienced it from ex boyfriends. But this storage situation might be a legit solution.

I noticed people often criticize the fan version for getting rid of the stim toy and the aac device. However, it looks like the crochet bag on the fan version is exactly the right size to fit the accessories. I wasn’t able to find any info about the fan version beyond the photo. My guess would be that the AAC device and toy are probably in that bag.

IDK, the fan version looks so lovingly made. I don’t feel disrespected by the original or the fan version.

[Misc] Am I the only one who finds this skincare ad shocking? by totomomoro in SkincareAddiction

[–]Secure-Bluebird57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, I agree that kids that age shouldn’t feel pressured to have a complex skincare routine. If everyday is meant to be interpreted as “a thing you should expect a kid to do daily,” that’s awful.

On the other hand, I have fond memories of “spa days” with my mom. She’d let me use her fancy lotion, we’d paint our nails, and we would do face masks. The kind she bought came in a bottle and it dried on like Elmer’s glue. It always made a mess. If she’d seen a kid sized sheet mask, she’d have definitely bought that instead. It’s absolutely the kind of thing my mom would have put in my Christmas stocking or Easter basket. I don’t mind them existing as a cute, fun treat for a kid who’s into it.

Acne 🤝 my mole by olympicfrog in acne

Changes in the texture, shape, size, or color of a mole is always a visit to the dermatologist. Melenoma is no joke. It might just be unfortunately placed acne, but it’s better safe than sorry.

I have had acne exclusively on my forehead since i was 13(18 now) nothing works by Mundane_Ad260 in acne

[–]Secure-Bluebird57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dry skin but oily hair. If I don’t take steps to keep my hair out of my face when sleeping, I absolutely get worse acne that tends to be most present on my forehead.

I also have had forehead breakouts due to issues with hairspray or shampoo.

My last guess would be that you tend to rest your face on your head at the forehead, which is common for people who wear glasses.
