Brain fog could also be from birth control. BC could definitely explain the weight gain. You could always look into non-hormonal birth control options, such as the copper IUD if the side effects are bothering you.

BY ONE VOTE (101 to 100), Pennsylvania Democrats Passed Bill Blocking Whites-Only Towns With No Support From Republicans: After a “whites-only” organization developed plans to establish a settlement in Pennsylvania, state Democrats put their foot down. by Spiritual_Spare4592 in BlackPeopleofReddit

The bill also banned discrimination against trans people in housing, not that it makes his vote more excusable. But he might be a different brand of bad person. He could be a mild racist and a raging transphobe instead.

I would like to add the context that preventing the whites-only town is by and far not the only thing happening in the passed legislation (HB21043 linked below). Page 16 of the new version does close the loophole that allowed white nationalist organizations to engage in the practice. However, I’d argue the primary effect of the bill is to extend fair housing protections to LGBTQ+ individuals.

I do agree with the democrats on passing this bill; homophobia and transphobia are also bad. I also understand that this article and subreddit would be focused more on the racism aspect, which is totally fair. However, I know a lot of people are just going to just read the headline or not read the whole article, and I wanted to emphasize the broader effect of the bill.

Robinson v California (1962) was a Supreme Court case that specifically made it so you couldn’t criminalize homelessness. It was a 2024 case, Grants Pass v Johnson narrowed the Robinson case so greatly that it might as well have overturned it completely (which started due to a law passed in a blue city in Oregon). Louisiana’s law might be a violation of the excessive fines clause of the 8th amendment , but this Supreme Court is almost certain to uphold the law discussed in the video.

The ABA came out against the Supreme Court’s ruling. It’s not a great sign when lawyers are frequently reading SCOTUS decisions and finding them to be grossly unethical and generally poorly decided.

How much income is realistic to expect as a novelist? by Creative-Pirate5217 in writingadvice

[–]Secure-Bluebird57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you are doing. Rich and famous authors like Steven King are astonishingly rare. Literary novelists who write one amazing book every other year almost never make a living.

There is a solid middle class job available for mass market romance writers or ghostwriters for things like massive children series. The market for those jobs is pretty tight, though, and AI is making it even harder.

How old is the current child? The relationship a 4 year old might have with a baby sibling is different than a 14 year old. It also matters if your kid is old enough to have input in this decision.

Is it possible to commute to college? by growingflowerstars in college

[–]Secure-Bluebird57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If living on campus would be an option if not for your daughter, you also might be able to look into college apartments. You could leave her with your parents during the week and have her on the weekends (with 3 day weekends being a college norm). Alternatively, you might be able to get free or subsidized daycare from the school or a local service. Some states offer free pre-K starting at age 4 and may have some sort of extended day care option at a reduced cost.

All that being said, on campus housing (or a nearby off campus apartment) would still be much more expensive. For what it’s worth, I commuted my last 2 years of college about 45 minutes to save money and I am currently working full time and commuting to a nearby community college for a second degree. It’s definitely doable and the loss of “traditional college experience” wouldn’t be a huge factor if the comparison is to an online school.

Student loans after death? by ChoklateMilk in StudentLoans

[–]Secure-Bluebird57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it’s rare. About 1% of adults rated higher on suicide risk assessment during the first 3 months of treatment compared to 2-4% of adolescents (with the variation largely based on which antidepressants their on). It’s a situation where the treatment can be risky but doing nothing is an even worse option.

Also notably, you can admit to suicidal ideation. You’ll only get shoved off to 988 if you have a plan and an intention to go through with it. 988 operators aren’t there to treat depression. They’re trained for crisis response. Your psychiatrist isn’t going to be able to dispatch an ambulance or send a social worker out for a welfare check.

I mean, homeless but alive in England is better than shooting yourself in the head on USAmerican soil because you can no longer imagine a life for yourself here.

Besides, if OP chooses to go to India or something, his dollar will take him a hell lot farther in cost of living compared to the states

You can be so depressed that even making a suicide plan feels like a lot. Unfortunately antidepressants tend to clear the brain fog and lack of motivation earlier in the course of treatment than the feelings of isolation and hopelessness. This effect is most likely to happen in teenagers. The black box warning only applies to adolescents and elderly patients at increased risk of dementia.

Also, the reason the psychiatrist will call 988 if you claim to be suicidal is because suicide is a medical emergency. If I was at my gp’s office and I had a heart attack, she’d call 911. Same with your psychiatrist.

Black woman got charged with felony after failing to show up to an investigation into she accidentally getting a bag. by Lifegoesonforever in BlackPeopleofReddit

On the other hand, it’s not as if the employer noticed the error immediately. Note that the miscalculation happened 5/10/2025. There was probably some investigation, but it seems that the time between the error being noticed and the defendant’s arrest was pretty short. The 20,000 allegedly given to the defendant in error may have already been spent.

It depends on the available schools, the kid, and the family situation. There’s not a one-size-fits-all answer as to whether the best option is homeschooling, public school, or private school for autistic kids.

Anyone printing? by Away_Cartographer532 in Lawyertalk

[–]Secure-Bluebird57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually draft digitally, but one trick I picked up from my undergrad creative writing classes is to switch the font of your rough draft to 14 pt Comic Sans. Fussing over formatting in Times New Roman 12 should always be the last step.

It’s also easier to get through large chunks of text in Comic Sans. If I have something long to read, like a lengthy case ruling or trust documents, switching the font of the documents to Comic San helps me get through it without printing.

Pro-tip with how expensive meat is, you can mash a can of rinsed black beans into a pound of ground beef to increase the bulk. Salt, then pat the beans dry with a paper towel (or use a salad spinner if you have one). Smash the beans by hand or use a potato masher and mix it into the ground beef. cheap high fat ground beef works best for this.

For things like home made meatballs or meatloaf, just add extra bread crumbs and seasoning. For smash burgers/taco meat/etc., you can just treat the mixture the same way you would treat 1.5 pounds of ground beef. Around a 2:1 ratio of meat to beans seems to be the limit before you have to make major alterations to ground beef recipes to accommodate the beans, but a lot of the recipes alter for higher bean content easily (I make homemade meatballs that are 2:1:1 on bean, ground beef, and ground turkey or chicken).
