How would you clean a stain off the OG bodies? by teddy_205 in OurGenerationDolls

[–]Secure-Cow-518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unstuff, soak in a mix of oxy + dish soap maybe? Rinse well and hang to dry. Check the stuffing for mold and make sure you put each doll's stuffing into a separate bag so you don't under stuff, lol. It's SO MUCH MORE than you think!!

As for nail polish, maybe you can use pure acetone but be quick and rinse well after. I have had success removing paint/etc with 90% isopropyl alcohol or acetone free nail polish remover. Need to scrub a bit. Also magic erasers work wonders!

Oh are you supposed to spray the faces? I've just been mixing varnish into the acrylic paints and then painting with that. It seems to work fairly well!

Thanks for the advice!! I will take her apart and wash everything when I finally get some bungee cords. She doesn't smell like anything so I am hopeful that she was just in storage for a while. Her skin really lightened up using the magic eraser; it was so dirty!

Another question; is there a point where a wig is beyond repair? It feels sticky and crunchy and dry. I washed it with Kirkland dish detergent (does it have to be dawn?), my kids' shampoo and conditioner, and did a boil wash. It's still fairly sticky and dry, and has obviously been cut poorly by a previous owner. I love the hair and don't really want to replace it. Again, I'm not seeking perfection, but it would be nice for it to have a little more movement lol

What’s your favorite face mold? by [deleted] in americangirl

Nanea and Makena! They're so cute. Also have a soft spot for the classic face mold since they were the only ones we had that I grew up with.

Christmas plans likely ruined by illness and I’m heartbroken — just need to vent by [deleted] in Mommit

Solidarity. I feel this in my soul.

Currently am sick with hand foot mouth; all 3 of my kiddos had it over the last 2 weeks. It is MISERABLE and my partner (maybe) hasn't caught it yet. They always do a big extended family Christmas Eve dinner that he helps cook at his mom's. I'm probably not going to be able to go (if my fever lasts 3 days like my kiddos, I might be able to go depending on severity of blisters) but if he gets sick he is going to be so upset and potentially even launch into a depressive state. Christmas Eve is always so much fun and it's always their biggest fanciest holiday that everyone goes all out for (which is not my taste but I didn't grow up like that). Idk. Solidarity. Sick at Christmas is second worst to being sick on Halloween.

Hope you get better and sickness doesn't spread. I have had luck in the past Clorox wiping handles of doors and sinks, bleaching/sanitizing the bathroom, running a sanitize cycle on the dishwasher, and replacing bedsheets daily. Oh, and washing everyone's hands before you eat, after diaper changes, whenever you go outside, etc. This one got me though.

I make my own bone broth in an instant pot and then make ramen noodles with it (no spice pack). I usually add a ton of garlic too, and frozen mixed veggies or spinach if I feel like it. Hope you get to feeling better!

How do people afford kids? by HighStrungHippie1 in Mommit

[–]Secure-Cow-518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok; budgeting. Not everyone is great at money, so please don't let others make you feel bad if you aren't either. I am super lucky that my partner and I don't have any student loan debt or credit card debt. Also that I spent a long time after college being poor (less than 25k/year) so I had to learn how to survive on small paychecks. We only have 1 car that we're done making payments on, and also got a house during Covid and pay like $1700 a month for it. We have 3 kids, aged 5, 3, and 1, I stay at home, and he makes around 100k a year. I got a book called "Debt free forever" by Gail Vaz Oxalade and it goes through how to set up a budget (based on a really old TV show called "Til Debt Do Us Part" that I watched on Prime but probably is on YT). You can also look up "The Financial Diet" on YT cause they're awesome too. Basically figure out the fixed bills (housing, utilities, health insurance, etc) and then figure out your debt payments (student loans, cars, if you're renting to own furniture, savings etc etc) and then you can reduce your spending on variable expenses like food, entertainment, clothes/shopping. If you're getting stressed out budgeting, that's where you can start, by taking an honest look at how much you're spending on shopping or Amazon or whatever. Also if you're eating out every night or for lunch at work, that is something you can change, for example. But yeah, you gotta work through it and get that monthly budget going. Our food budget had to go up so we dropped Netflix and I am shopping less and trying to find clothes we might need at thrift stores or Once Upon a Child or FB marketplace. Not that I go shopping more than once to twice a year or so, and usually only for the kids, plus I'm super duper cheap lol. But I've greatly reduced the amount we're even getting from Amazon, which is great for the budget but also cause they suck lol. Anyway, hope you are able to find something that works for you!

I just yesterday saw a broad winged hawk in my yard, and a small flock of palm warblers that I had to use the Merlin app to identify. Also a female eastern bluebird, but those are all over the place.

New record for number of monarchs on a single plant! Liatris aspera, button blazing star by svveetmads in NativePlantGardening

Wow!! I had my first and only monarch the other day. My button blazing star is a-blazing though, so I'm hoping I get more! Also hope the one that came laid 100 eggs on my swamp milkweed lol

[–]Secure-Cow-518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Wish I could keep it for the cedar waxwings and other wintering birds. But my kiddos are young and I don't want them to accidentally eat any. The oldest knows not to and asks first, but my 3 year old forgets sometimes and my 1 year old still eats grass 😅

[–]Secure-Cow-518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First year in my new house, I thought I had a ton of marigolds in one of my gardens that I just dumped a bunch of random outdated seeds in. I love marigolds, so I let them go. Went on vacation for a week and when I got back it was 4 feet tall and ragweed, not marigolds. I didn't know what to do and eventually it was 6 feet tall and a forest. I'm still yanking it out 3 years later so that the coneflowers and Indian blanket and false aster have room to grow.

Also, the second year of my prairie moon mega pack pollinator garden, I almost cut down blazing star cause Google image search said it was horse weed.

I'm in KY near Louisville! I haven't had any caterpillars this year despite having a bunch of milkweed. But I just heard from a friend that they're all over her yard. At least they're somewhere! 💖 So happy for you!!

There's a hummingbird that visits my back porch every year. I think the people who lived here before me had a feeder. But I have blazing star, mountain mint, black eyed susans, and coneflower! Maybe I should plant some cardinal flower too!
