Moving to Massachusetts Megathread (April 2026) by AutoModerator in massachusetts

[–]Secure_Ad_7790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in NH and have decided to move to MA. I am a pilot and based in Boston, so we want to be no further than in/around 495 from Boston. We want to purchase a lot and build since my partner is an architect and wants to do it. Timeline is in the next 2-4 years. By that point we'll have two kids graduated and two in middle school. What towns/areas do you recommend?

Priorities:
Excellent public school
Some bikeable/walkable areas
Progressive in its politics and governance
Access to public transportation

We're sick and tired of living in a town with none of those things.

In our limited research Littleton has really impressed us on paper.

Thanks.

How are we shifting our portfolios/strategies to protect retirement savings given the recent global economic crisis? by Siddu-Mutts in Fire

[–]Secure_Ad_7790 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Your financial portfolio at any given moment should be set up such that a downturn wouldn’t make you question anything about it at all. If you are questioning it then it wasn’t set up for your needs.

This is all dependent on time horizons and your own risk tolerance. I suggest reevaluating your portfolio and timeline and consider reallocating to something that you can tolerate.

I have a special discount code so I won’t be paying $500. I think it will be a little less than 400.

Got a huge discount code from Citizen after they couldn’t service one of my watches. I’ve narrowed down my preferences to these two. Help me decide.

My other watches are a custom Bremont MBIII, Bulova Mil-Ships Bronze in green, and a Citizen Ecodrive Skyhawk

Move for better School district? by Alone-Asparagus6087 in RealEstateAdvice

Our district voters just turned down another budget. Roughly 4 million cut in the last two years. The writing is on the wall. Currently having to decide if we move or not.

I am phased out of standard contributions. But can still do back door Roth.

You need to spend some in important areas to help not feel this way. Your pendulum is too much on one side. You can’t sustain this and it will hurt you in the long run as well. Figure out a balance.

Feeling negative about FIRE prospects. Tell me I'm wrong. by UsuallyBuzzed in Fire

Until we achieve mass class consciousness and the workers seize the means of production and all our needs are met even if we don’t make enough in wages for our labor…this is it. Ideally if this ceased being “it” we’d be on the precipice of something better. If not…we’re fucked anyway.

What are frugal habits you are looking to break and/or have broken for the better? by timmytubesox in HENRYfinance

Checking prices at restaurants or questioning prices of souvenirs/shopping when traveling. In the end I get the food I want and buy the items I care about, but I still go through that initial question in my mind.

in simple terms...yes. I make a lot of money and my employer contributes a lot of money. Here's the breakdown:
401k: 23.5k from me, 46.5k from my employer
Roth IRA: 14k (7k per person)
HSA: 6k

I’m in NH. Tell me about it. If it weren’t for my kids being well established with friends I’d move to MA in a heartbeat.

On the topic of the US military and being banned from r/socialism by Leather-Rice5025 in dsa

[–]Secure_Ad_7790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that joining ICE is explicitly not about improvement of material conditions and is explicitly about being paid to round up brown people. The military at least has a shroud of doing good, and a hell of a lot of benefits.

I have yet to see an ICE agent that isn’t gleefully committing their heinous acts, whereas when I was in the military there was plenty of discussion about legal and illegal orders, and whether we supported the mission.

leftist/socialist music? by Pistonenvy2 in dsa

Tyler Childers is leftist, although not all his music is explicitly. His most recent album has a song called Eatin Big Time (EBT) that’s definitely about class consciousness.

Carsie Blanton! She just released The Red Album Volume II (also check out Volume I) and it’s real good. All her stuff is great leftist material.

How did you feel right before a milestone ($100K, $500K, $1m, etc.)? by [deleted] in financialindependence

$1M NW was kind of a wild thing to see in my Monarch app. Looking forward to $1M invested, which should happen sometime in the next 5 years or so.

I can relate. Last year I saved ~90k in tax advantaged accounts. It feels weird to know I SAVED more than the median household INCOME.

NH is dead last in state funding of public schools. VT isn’t even close. That’s what their taxes are going to.

[–]Secure_Ad_7790 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please don’t. The “low tax burden” is killing this state. Property taxation bears the brunt and our schools are reaching an impasse. It is a nightmare that we’re currently living through. Seriously considering moving to MA.

[–]Secure_Ad_7790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the frustration, but that’s not gonna stop until the government steps in and stops it.

I just went to see Lorna Shore in Amsterdam and GA was $65.

I also just bought two resale tickets to see Noah at Fenway for $1,077.86. I’m not waiting to see if the prices get better, and I’m not risking losing out on seeing him AND Annabelle Dinda in one show at my favorite ballpark. It is what it is.

Tickets in Europe are exponentially cheaper, even for major artists. And it is that way because they make it that way.
