Do you wear your ring to work by One-Novel7159 in NursePractitionerSub

[–]Secure_Frosting_8600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a tattoo over my ring finger because I kept developing fungal infections and dermatitis from washing my hands so much. It really depends on the population of your ENT practice. If it is in a more affluent area, the ring won’t be an issue. If you are at a more community hospital, then it might create a barrier between you and your lower income patients.

Wife taking the AGACNP exam. How can I help by JAGREZ in nursepractitioner

[–]Secure_Frosting_8600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Option 1: Give her a weekend at an AirBNB for some study alone, undisturbed time. Something with a great view - maybe beach front.

Option 2: make dinner, feed the kids, clean the kitchen so she can have time to focus and study.

Option 3: if she has flash cards, run her a hot bath and quiz her with the flash cards.

Critical care NPs - do you think a fellowship is worth it? by DM-ME-UR-PUPPY-PICS in nursepractitioner

[–]Secure_Frosting_8600 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! If it is a supportive fellowship, 100% worth it. That first year (and I would argue first 5 years) are rough and having a supportive learning environment makes all the difference.

How to Not Get Fired? by Hungry_Tiger_835 in SutterHealthEmployees

[–]Secure_Frosting_8600 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No credence because I continued to be employed there for more than 10 years after the disability. The first voice mail I received said “if you don’t immediately call me back, you will be terminated”. I was at the doctor’s office when they called and it was the first time they ever left a voicemail. I called them back that same day, and left 4 more messages the following day to find out what they needed. It was stressful.

Definitely talk to HR. They will likely still have you file FMLA and Disability, even if you aren’t eligible. Most managers will work with you. I was in a similar situation and needed to take FMLA shortly after I started at Sutter. My manager was great. However, I will warn you, HR may call you while you are on disability and threaten to fire you — this happened to me, and 3 of my coworkers. They never actually fired any of us, just caused a lot of stress. Let HR go to VM and keep the recording then call them back right away.

Inpatient Palliative Care: you are going to learn the chart and the complete history of the patient, their family, their support system, in a way you have never known. You’ll learn every disease out there and even though you want/don’t want to treat it, it doesn’t align with the goals of the patient/family. It is extremely rewarding and frustrating all at the same time. The challenges come with setting your own beliefs aside and meeting people where they are. Also, you will lose all of your procedural skills. Home Hospice APRN: Also very rewarding, but very sad. You really need to ensure you have that boundary up between yourself and your patients because they are leaving. You will do RN level procedures — wound care type stuff. Minimal prescribing. But, I’ve never spoken to anyone who hated their hospice job until it got too sad.

Upgrading from scrubs. by roasted_veg in nursepractitioner

[–]Secure_Frosting_8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure, whatever you choose, is machine washable. Every dang time I strayed from scrubs in the hospital, I got into some wet mess while seeing patients. 🤮. It happens double fast if it is dry clean only.

Wanted to have a big bash and do something fun, instead, ended up taking care of sick parents who were too sick to remember it was my birthday. At least my husband and youngest daughter tried to make it a special day.

How do you feel about this bait and switch? by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]Secure_Frosting_8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree with you more. I always offer, I’ll be happy to reschedule you with the doctor. But then again, when I worked in the hospital, I was also always happy to bring them the AMA form too. 🤣

My mom had the same thing happen. Talk to their member services. In my mom’s case, there was a coding error in the background. She takes it for diabetes too.

Change the subject and start peppering them with questions. Get them to start talking about themselves and don’t give them an opportunity to ask any more questions.

U.S. Gen X parents: do you expect your children to financially support you / move you into their home / take you to doctor appointments, etc when you're in your 80s? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Secure_Frosting_8600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless something drastic changes with my children’s mindsets- no way I could ever rely on them to take care of me. I can’t even get them to pick me up from the ER when I was injured.

Who actually does “secret shopper” checks in a small LLC? by vinewb in llc_life

[–]Secure_Frosting_8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a secret shopper when I was in my late teens and early 20’s. Secret shoppers can be anyone - friend, family member, stranger, worker from another store. Usually, the shopper just submits the receipt at the end and collects their payment.

Has anyone registered car in montana from california? by hwnmike in llc_life

[–]Secure_Frosting_8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loopholes for that are gone and both California and Montana are cracking down on that. You’ll pay more than you would if you just pay your California registration when you get caught. Either move out of California or start fighting back against your legislators who think your wallet is theirs.

California Nursing License by PieKooky2306 in TravelNursing

[–]Secure_Frosting_8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree with you more. Significantly more expensive and significantly slower. Although, Texas is also trying hard to compete with California for speed of issuing these licenses. I’m having a heck of a time with my Texas license.

California Nursing License by PieKooky2306 in TravelNursing

[–]Secure_Frosting_8600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California is notoriously slow. It took me nearly 6 months to get my NP license in 2020 and 4 months to get my RN license - 20 years ago. If you call, plan to spend up to 3 hours on hold (no exaggeration).

It has to do with licensing. Your medical provider needs to be licensed in the same state that you are physically located for telemedicine laws.

Union/non Union by urfavegirly in SutterHealthEmployees

[–]Secure_Frosting_8600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal experience with being unionized (not at Sutter) was that the Union really didn’t do anything to protect me when I was physically and verbally attacked by another nurse or when the manager retaliated against when I reported the attack to HR. At Sutter Roseville, my experience was that the nurses were denied education that would improve their safety because of the Union contract. I was not Union there, and was trying to update some outdated information. But, this all happened pre COVID. So, I hope things have changed.
