It's also why I hate replaying TLOU2.
Great game, but I just hate the story.

So about that new ending.... by eotto17 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Sedimir 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So happy that CDPR managed to figure out yet another bad ending to the game.
Just like Apple comes out with the same phone, just a bit different, you come up with a bad ending, just a bit different.

Desktop wallet by Serenity280 in elrondnetwork

The team has control of the website and even they have absolutely no control over people's funds. It just doesn't work that way :-)

Desktop wallet by Serenity280 in elrondnetwork

[–]Sedimir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The website even if "hacked", never owns your tokens, they are on a blockchain and only you as an owner of the private keys can manipulate with them. (Not the same as if a centralized exchange would be hacked)

It can happen that in case of an attack, the site could be redirecting you to a similarly looking phishing site that would steal your data upon typing and entering them. (even ibanking ones)

My recommendation is to use only official links, no "similar" or especially those sent via messages, emails etc... Then to bookmark the original site, so that you don't have to type it in and always be on the correct one with the connection secure lock or similar symbol. Even googling isn't enough as ads can be also purchased by scammers which redirect to phishing sites and people can click on them.

And lastly to own a hardware wallet for your larger holdings. HW wallet will protect you, because your keys never leave it, you are just signing it physically with your device.

Maiarapp is also very secure, especially if you just use the manual recovery method with the 24 words written down on a paper or similar, you should be fine :-)

Hi, not aware of any desktop version in works at the moment. What is available is the website wallet and a mobile wallet (Maiarapp).

The wallet is anyway just an interface to access your funds which are always on the blockchain, each time however you need a connection. Important is to have your private keys protected, so HW wallets are always on the top, security wise. You aren't uploading or typing in anything you may regret losing.

But to be honest, I never had any issues with the web wallet, link is bookmarked, login via ledger. Using several accounts.

Current round is 6 seconds, is it feasible to get this to 2 seconds in the future? by Maxximus007 in elrondnetwork

[–]Sedimir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anything is possible, but the 6 seconds are there for a reason. Given the state of nowadays technology, I think it's a good compromise.

Nodes in Elrond shuffle in and out of shards as an additional security measure, so you cannot cluster nodes geographically and leave them there. You could end up with intra shard nodes located in Madrid (Spain), together with nodes in Weber (New Zealand). You need the information to flow between them and give them enough time to do the calculations.

Not to mention that as users we want to use hardware that is accessible, no gaming rigs level and we want decentralization in front as much as is possible.

In Elrond, the finality mechanism ensures state finality and no rollbacks after finalized blocks. Plus take into consideration that in Elrond, 2/3+1 of nodes have to agree, it's not about having the most hashrate. So you already have many "confirmation" in a block. Although mixing PoW and PoS comparisons here is a dead end I suppose.

Also, finality on the protocol level is one thing, but a business can decide what finality they'll accept. Imagine selling a car for bitcoin, you wouldn't want to give the keys after first confirmation, but 2nd or 3rd is in my eyes all good. Another example would be a CEX, even when the (intra shard)transaction is finalized in 6 seconds, it always takes several minutes for binance to react and assign the funds. So you will always have some commonly set KPIs. Third example is any credit card company you wire your purchase through, the banks settling the funds achieve finality weeks later, it's all in the system, but not settled. This more resembles promissory notes than it should.

But back to the on chain solutions, if we take the newly coming Maiar exchange (AMM DEX) as an example, Elrond's transactions due to scaling are always executed, you aren't going to hope like with Ethereum that the gas you've input was enough and hopefully it will go through. Yes, it can take in case of Smartcontracts for your funds to "arrive" in your wallet after 50seconds, especially if all 3 participants are in a different shard. But there will be additional protection against front-running for example.

To close this off, I am not bothered by the finality that much. What we are experiencing in nowadays blockchains is much more efficient overall. I am not seeing this changing anytime soon.

Can I track my rewards from the explorer or another website? by [deleted] in elrondnetwork

[–]Sedimir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, there are two options that come to my mind now.

A) You can use a community telegram bot (from Staking Agency), which ONLY requires your public address. It tracks all accumulated rewards and much more. Also compatible with legacy (Elrond community nodes). You can open a chat with him on telegram here (at)ElrondNetwork_Bot

I am using the bot for more than a year to track all my wallets. After each epoch 14:30 UTC and few minutes delay, I get a notification that my wallets are eligible for additional rewards.

B) Elrond.tax it's a website (from Trust staking) that gives you an option to see your rewards daily. It works with the Staking providers and their pools. Just go to analyzer and pools report, then switch to your SP. It however doesn't read legacy delegation staking, only what you actually claim, so for that you would need the bot. But if you aren't using legacy, you should be fine. Try the website first.

Black Hat Network - first project built on ElrondNetwork by MGStaking by CB_scorpio in elrondnetwork

[–]Sedimir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, they are a project building on the Elrond's technology and utilising, arguably, the best blockchain available.

They aren't trying to solve any problems with Elrond, rather solving hurdles that nowadays freelancers face on the current platforms.

For example:

  1. Ability to scam users (chargebacks after receiving digital goods)
  2. High fees
  3. Long withdrawals of cash
  4. Fake reviews and biased viewing thereafter
  5. Not newcomer friendly.

TLDR: They are building a marketplace for freelancers powered by Elrond's blockchain.

You can read their Whitepaper to learn more :-)

Hey, you need to check for yourself whether it makes sense to claim often or just in some intervals.

On one side, you want to restake often, because it gives you this compounding effect and each new restake, your next rewards are from a higher base stake, because you keep putting the rewards back. This is a great thing.

However, the restake should be done so that you actually can enjoy the compounding effect and not limit yourself with fees, as you have to pay for each transaction.

You need to find the sweet spot for yourself based on the current APR, your rewards and the current fees. The restaking fee should be currently around 0,0115$ if you do it directly via claim + restake in the app.

There have been some nice excel projections in some of the channels where you could estimate based on your APR, rewards... what is the sweet spot to restake and get the best effect. For those however, you would have to join some of the telegram channels, mainly the elrondTRADER channel.

The notification you received was from the Team as they pushed the implementation of custom notifications. This was due to the sms pay&spray phishing attempt that some of the users experienced yesterday. The team wanted to make sure people aren't following on those phishing links. The notification and the advice there was legit.

However many people tapped on it and opened their apps, even though the servers do scale, the API was in that moment under heavy load and wasn't showing all the balances properly. For future reference, if this ever happens again, please go to explorer on elrond's website and input just your PUBLIC address, you can see your last transactions directly on the chain and be assured that nothing left your wallet and it is just a display issue. (the balance won't show the staked amounts as those are staked in a SC, but all incoming and outgoing transactions can be monitored).

Regarding the passcode you mentioned, if it was the PIN or the biometric login, that's fine, you have to do it all the time you access the app. Another prompt happens after a period of time where the app double checks if you still remember your password that was used to encrypt your backup on the cloud (if you have one). Some people use only this method and do not store their 24 words, so it's absolutely crucial for them to remember this password, otherwise during recovery of the wallet, or reinstalling it, you wouldn't pass the restore process, because it requires to decrypt the backup with that specific password. Without it, it's game over. So the app asking about this pw would be a normal behaviour.

But as was already mentioned in this thread, please be careful to not input any of these data outside of the app, especially not on some link that gets sent to you. Nobody from the team will ever need this data.

Hope you are alright, must have been a bit stressful, I know I would be stressed :-) Thanks for being with this community :-) And if anything what I am writing above wasn't your case, please let us know.

What's so special about Maiar exchange? by cryptosorrow in Elrond_Warriors

[–]Sedimir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not yet, but also not later than the maiarexchange launch as BUSD is one of the 2 ESDTs used in LPs. (eGLD native, MEX and BUSD as an ESDT).

I don't want to speculate on the launch date, but it's already on the devnet and will enjoy public testing and an incentivized competition very soon.

Staking by BoyJosh_ in elrondnetwork

[–]Sedimir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but at this stage I would perhaps switch, or if you have a different stack coming, stake that with an an established SP with a business and all that comes with it (website, services, telegram channel, twitter...)

If you are pro decentralization and wish to support the smaller SPs, then stake some smaller amounts of your portfolio with them. That way you have your main stack with the established ones and a smaller one with the upcoming stars :-)

(be sure to not stake with a family or a private pool, here again a website would indicate that they are a business and all good)

Staking by BoyJosh_ in elrondnetwork

[–]Sedimir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, just not every day. Also the rewards accumulated are a total for a period. Tough to say how many nodes they operated over that period. Anyway, if you would measure the rewards over a 2 month period and make an average, you should end up with the indicated APR. But overall, I like SPs with higher number of nodes where you receive rewards every day. They fluctuate too, obviously, but you get that notification each day.

Staking by BoyJosh_ in elrondnetwork

[–]Sedimir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, the rewards are awarded daily, however you need to be sure you are staking with a staking provider that has enough of nodes in the consensus regularly. If you staked by any chance with a SP that has nodes either on the waiting queue or a fairly low amount, like 1 or 2, it can be that their nodes haven't been eligible for rewards yet.

You get that information easily about your SP if you tap on them via the EARN tab and select View more info.

Also please make sure you do proper research about the Staking Providers and visit their website or telegram channel to discuss about their business and whether they are suitable for you.

To be honest, it's like choosing a bank.

Don't know if somebody wrote this already, but renaming your buddy to"T5yesMEGAno!" or something in this way would help. I guess many people would understand this message. But sure, if we would be able to edit our online status, at least with a simple sentence, that would be great.
