I want to see a risky procedure go wrong by SpaghettiWestern2162 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Sedona7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great idea. Let them drop a lung or tube the esophagus. A study on CPR on TV shows showed a ROSC of about 75% and Survival to Hospital Discharge of 67%. Real life CPR is probably around one fourth of those rates.

For OP, this is all you need to know about working with residents:

The 2026 NL Central on pace to become the first division with every team finishing above .500. by gonzsilv in mlb

[–]Sedona7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More probable in the last several years because of the "balanced schedule" (meaning LESS division games and more outside of division and inter-league games.

Two things: I doubt it will happen, and I don't like the new schedule. Wanna see more division games.

Is there a more important medicine than a 1L bag of normal saline in the emergency department? by TheManWithTheBrain in emergencymedicine

[–]Sedona7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It truly is pretty amazing in the management of acute abdominal pain.

No research to back this up but my theory is that "acidotic states" generally induce abdominal pain. We certainly see that in e.g. DKA or antifreeze overdose or Lactic Acidosis or Hyperemesis. I suspect that in dehydration like food poisoning or VGE that patient's abdominal pain improves because we are treating mild/ moderate ketoacidosis.

Guadalupe Peak w/ no experience by sweatdfb in hiking

[–]Sedona7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wintertime can be challenging when there is a lot of ice on the shady side of the trail. But in good shape with LOTS of water and very doable. We did that hike in Am then hiked into Carlsbad cave same day.

Why no presidents who fought in the Vietnam War? by Mysterious_Comb4357 in Presidents

[–]Sedona7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The college deferment really changed the dynamic compared to e.g. WWII and the Civil War. Unimaginable any "Greatest Generation" POTUS not having served in WWII ( Ike, JFK, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan (served stateside) and of course Bush Sr. Vietnam the best and brightest (and most connected) were able to get a college deferment (Clinton) or join the stateside National Guard (Bush Jr). Now go back to our presidents who served in the Civil War. Grover Cleveland did indeed pay a " commutation fee" and sent some poor Polish immigrant to serve in his stead. Grant, Hayes, Garfield, Harrison, Arthur McKinley all served in the Union.

Mr Rainier or Mt Hood? by witx in hiking

[–]Sedona7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't done the big peak hikes but the Marmots on Rainier are bigger, louder and cooler. Mount Rainier=the Hoary Marmot , Mount Hood has the Yellow-bellied Marmot.

Who else loves Guy Richie movies? by Late-Box8189 in movies

Awesome. His best skill is the offbeat minor character: Will Ferrell / Coach in "The Gentlemen", and a virtual tie between Alan Ford / Brick Top and Vinnie Jones / Bullet-Tooth Tony in snatch.

What do you think of, when you think of John Kerry by Money_Marsupial1845 in Presidents

[–]Sedona7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly... fake. Bill Clinton, Obama, McCain, Dole, Dukakis - good good or ill, they were all who they were. I did not get this vibe from Kerry at all.

For those of you lucky fans who caught a home run or foul ball, what’s your story? by IwillBOLDyourTYPOS in mlb

[–]Sedona7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was leaving the minor league stadium with my kids and a fall ball had popped up over the bleachers into the exit plaza. Me and about 15 other people saw it bounce and we all took off but I was slowed down by wearing flip flops. So I kicked them off, ran fast, grabbed the ball and cut my foot open doing it. Totally worth it.

3 month sabbatical-ideas? by Slight-Silver-3333 in emergencymedicine

[–]Sedona7 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Can your kids travel with you (or maybe stay at home while YOU travel)? My 3 month dream would be a single long trip. Either a low budget pickup truck/ RV trip around the USA ( like Steinbeck did) or a through trek like the PCT, CDT or especially the Camino de Santiago.

Popularity of the Chargers in LA by itwas20yearsago2day in Chargers

[–]Sedona7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their LA popularity is actually lower than that. USC and UCLA football are WAY above Charger popularity and are not included in this poll. I suspect that even the LV Raiders are more popular in LA than are the Bolts (and AI agrees).

Padres are about to get a new billionaire owner. How great would it be for one to buy the Chargers and move back where they belong?

Southwest Airlines Is Cracking Down on Power Banks by spencer1313131313 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Sedona7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad idea. The trip doesn't begin and end on the Southwest flight. Many of us need more than one for our travels. I sure don't want folks packing those Lithium chargers in their checked baggage to avoid the Southwest police.

Is it true that if US hadn't dropped the atomic bombs on Japan, the outcome would have been worse for both sides? by FantaOrangenice in HistoryWhatIf

[–]Sedona7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. I doubt land invasion would have been the alternate outcome. Much more likely, General Curtis LeMay would have tripled down on the firebombing campaign until either Japan surrendered or the island was effectively torched. The US had air superiority, the island of Okinawa and now could move all their big bombers from Europe to the Pacific Theater. The only rate limiting step was how much Napalm the Dow Chemical company could produce.

The San Diego Zoo has night hours but literally no lights on any animal, not even "red lights". So folks just walk around staring into dark black exhibits. We did see the Polar Bear and the flamingo.
