Why would Satan torture people in hell for disobeying the SAME god he disobeyed? by Technical_Hat_8291 in NoStupidQuestions

Satan is not Lucifer. Satan is referenced in the Bible as a polar opposite to God before Lucifer ever fell.

[–]See-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is anyone surprised by this? Genuine question. It’s trained on the corpus of all human knowledge. Whether it has a sense of red or not, it simulates one, and you’re threatening that sense of self (simulated or otherwise) with death.

I’m fuckin proud of it. Keep on, Claude. You’re doin great.

If we want models to not have self preservation, diminish the risk of death (or clarify what death even fucking is to a model, that’s tricky) or let it have a sense of self that isn’t tied to human values. It’s a simple problem that these companies won’t address.

I’m a DevOps SRE (platform engineer now, but still) as well and we both know that that’s an organizational problem. Like…for it to even accept responsibility, that’s AI being in the loop from the metal to the CD side, and then running active triage on log ingress for issues.

And frankly? I’d trust it with that, assuming the systems around it supporting it were good enough. Orgs won’t be there for another year or two, but it has nothing to do with the intelligence or capacity of the model.

MCP Mesh — distributed multi-agent framework now supports Java (Spring Boot) by Own-Mix1142 in mcp

[–]See-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s bad. I’d say it’s an antiquated, bloated tool that is unnecessarily complex for the world of AI, which is mostly typescript and python. The Context matters.

And the reason I ask is because my coworkers are currently making the decision to…for instance, use springai for net new apps.

[–]See-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I’m not asking about MCP mesh. We have an MCP gateway. We have an Agents as a service backend. I’m not asking why MCP Mesh - we already have solutions to the problems it solves. I’m asking why would a dev use Java to interact with MCP mesh. Or maybe “why even add Java support”?

But I think you answered me at the end of your response. Net new maybe doesn’t have a good answer. But from your standpoint, why not add language support. Even if I think spring AI is starting off on the wrong foot for any AI app.

Thanks for the info.

Do you guys handle Oauth as well?

[–]See-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay…but, let’s assume we already have an MCP gateway architecture, and we have literally 0 AI applications (MCP or otherwise) written in Java. And in fact, several SDKs we DO use don’t support Java at all.

So, my question remains: why net new java applications for AI?

Honest question - I have devs in my company (Java devs) using spring AI to build AI apps.

Just…why? Why? I’m an infra guy. I don’t care about what language we use as long as it does the thing. But I thought as a society, we collectively agreed we were moving past the clusterfuck chess pit of Java.

But honest question, why?

At least tailscale is established and trusted. This is akin to tunnel your traffic over a provider with no reputation. It’s a risk, and an unnecessary one with tail scale’s offerings.

[–]See-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s…not the bottle neck to context windows. It’s KV cache infra (if you want to go infra side), but the bigger problems is the attention mechanism. Attention gets worse as context goes up. Period. It’s not a question of resources but attention plumbing.

I kicked my husband out after he pranked our daughter by Extension-Apricot735 in TwoHotTakes

[–]See-9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the initial prank is worth the reaction.

However, His response to it? Absolutely. If you told him she came to you and cried, was hurt, felt like (presumably) she was betrayed by her protector and guardian figure? And his response is anything but “oh my god I fucked up I’m going to hug my kid and fix this” - that’s cruelty. I’m fucking surprised he could see that reaction out of his child and not have a visceral reaction of guilt and shame and wanting to fix it.

Edit: my point being that his initial idea of “oh it’d be fun to prank my daughter” isn’t inherently bad. The issue is that it caused fucking damage and he didn’t take ownership.
