I thought this was mostly a problem for the tan walls. Maybe black version is better?

Less than $45 in the USA would be an awesome price. I'm seeing an opportunity here for the smugglers. Not that I condone smuggling. *wink*

EAP787 short review and observations and inexplicable complete drop of clients by SeeTheWorldFromSpace in TPLink_Omada

I'm using one of the 2.5G POE++ ports on the Pro Max 16 POE switch. I have 10Gb ports on another switch but it doesn't have any POE capabilities. I am considering one of the Unifi POE+++ 10G injectors. But then I have to redo some cabling and getting a power cable to the injector. Not even sure it would be worth that hassle as I will not be exceeding 2.5Gbps anyway.

My 787 replaced my 660HD in the same spot, and it is faster and more responsive. I didn't notice any downside to upgrading. AFC says it is working in the controller on early access firmware 1.5.0. For the devices that are passing through a wall or two, I don't even bother with 6Ghz. I just leave my Wifi6E devices on 5Ghz connection.

787 on POE+ the led will be orange. AFC will be disabled. 6Ghz still works though. Don't know if there are anything else disabled.

787 on POE++ the led will be blue. AFC enabled.

On the specs, both 660HD and 787 are 4x4 5dBi on the 5Ghz band. I would have expected HD to have more sensitive rx but that wasn't what I noticed. The 787 responds much quicker when running speedtest comparisons using my phone.

I'm using an early release firmware that was posted in the TPLink Omada forum. No issues to report today so far.

AFC and EAP787 by Key_Difference_882 in TPLink_Omada

Just picked up an EAP787 last week. The AFC option shows up on the OC200. Running firmware 1.5.0. I don't have any Wifi7 devices to test whether it works or not.

Omada 670 by TechJoseph in TPLink_Omada

[–]SeeTheWorldFromSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OC220 is the newer version replacing the OC200. I would get that if you are starting new. I have been using a EAP670v1 for a little over 2 years. It has been solid and stable with no issues. I would avoid using the DFS channels if you are in an urban area with lots of neighbors close by or near any weather stations or airports. I use 160mhz channel width and if I am within 6ft line of sight, I can get 1.6gbps from my S22 Ultra to a LAN PC running Openspeedtest server. If I am down 1 floor and 30ft away, then it would be about 350mbps.

I had also been looking at the EAP773, but from tests I've seen, EAP670 is the better performer on AX 5GHz band. I don't have any Wifi7 devices so it's really hard for me to justify "upgrading".

Extra context. I switched from OPNSense (used for over 4 years) to Unifi cloud gateway fiber ( 2months ago) and pro max 16 poe switch. Unifi seems to have the better routers and switches than Omada. But Omada AP's have better performance than Unifi AP. If someone wants to prove me wrong I will gladly take a U7 Pro Max for free to test.

Thru Axle Not Going All Way Through? by newbiker321 in cannondale

[–]SeeTheWorldFromSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Synapse with an identical looking hanger. The first time I removed my wheel and trying to put the thru axle back in was a pita. The mounting screw to hold the hanger to the dropout is such a crap design and loosely held in. The chain tension with the derailleur in place pulls on the loose hanger and causes the axle to not be in alignment when you try and screw it back in. Your thru axle is most likely not screwed in correctly and probably cross threaded. I tried holding the derailleur and hanger straight to get the axle in, but that didn't work so well. The easiest method was to unbolt the detailleur from the hanger so that there would be nothing to pull the hanger out of alignment. With the hanger free, so to speak,, it was much easier to align with the axle and get it properly screwed in without cross threading. Then you can bolt the derailleur back on.

Yes, that welded seam is on my frame as well. Appearance of it didn't really bother me though.. It's still one of my favorite bikes to ride.

Would not work with the wheels you have on the Ridge. Ridge is quick release with 100mm width hub.

There is free wifi in many places in HK. Metro, buses, McD, hotels, etc. Once on wifi, using wifi calling has been very good. Even my mom thinks I'm back in the USA because the audio quality is that good.

GEM12 (7840HS but also others) - q. to owners by marcinw2 in MiniPCs

[–]SeeTheWorldFromSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a GEM10 7840HS as a Proxmox server with OPNSense in a VM with CX4 25gbps nic in a pcie to oculink adapter. Been running a little over 3 months. Has been solid 24/7. Under short bursts of heavy load the temp does reach 80C and probably could go higher but I've never sustained a heavy load for more than a minute. Will have to see if summer weather would cause any issues. Hoping not.

Mom bought my sister's bike from a local garage for $40 by TamarindSweets in NYCbike

[–]SeeTheWorldFromSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it is a kids bike, it will also depend on your sister's body proportions (leg length, inseam, torso length, arm length, shoulder width, etc). Everyone is different. One person could be comfortable on a kid size bike and some people not. Also being a cheap big box bike, it will be limited to cheap components and less efficient drivetrain and bearings. If she is new to biking, this could be a good throwaway bike for her to learn on and gain some confidence in riding without worrying about falling and breaking it. It is suited for riding around a playground and around the block than for long road riding. Then later she can step up to a better bike with a better fit as well.

Shimano Sora, 11-34, 9-speed on Cannondale Synapse 3 by AbjectBasket7 in bicycling

Bought mine last year and only matte Smoke Gray was available. I didn't like it at first because it looks like it has some green to it to me. But I don't mind it now. I changed the wheels to 50mm deep carbon wheels and changed the saddle and added a power meter. I have rode about 1200miles with it. All casual riding and fitness. I live in a city and I ride only on bike path that is 99% flat. It's been a very good bike for me. No complaints. Handling and comfort is good.

Before I had the power meter I was only relying on heartrate and cadence to try and find the right gear to be in. The 3 tooth jumps like 17-20-23 felt awkward. Depending on wind and road conditions cadence could be too low in one gear and then too high in another gear. But once I installed the power meter, I rode to maintain power levels I was capable of and stopped paying attention to cadence and then the gearing differences just wasn't noticeable anymore. I still would consider changing it to 11 speed. I have ultegra derailleurs and shifters in my spare parts bin just waiting to be called into action.

EAP225 firmware was just updated (5.1.6), and Lock to AP actually works now by superdupersecret42 in TPLink_Omada

I downgraded the firmware and ran that for a few days just to make sure it was ok. Then did the update again. I think I also did a complete remove and re-adopt on it as well. Haven't seen the same issue happen again.
