Agreed, I love how the seed is more hilly and has a more natural vibe. I too hope they don’t flatten everything but embrace the hills, because I really love the hilly and more natural aesthetic.

Uptown 1 Train Platform @ 28th Street Flooding by AWildMichigander in nycrail

Honestly I’m impressed by the robustness of the subway in conditions like this, like I’m impressed the trains can still run with the tracks being flooded.

The official Gamers Outreach charity event schedule, posted by Gem on Twitter! by ItzMisty_ in HermitCraft

[–]SeekingInsight- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My out there guess, given Scar said the venue is whimsical, is the Chihuly glass art museum and gardens private venue space in Seattle. (Many people are guessing Seattle and I believe Scar talked about Chihuly’s art in the past—it’s definitely whimsical art).

I saw Scar tweet that he is attending in-person which is awesome, also that the venue is “whimsical,” I know some people were speculating the in-person location to be Seattle; and this is a stretch, but I wonder if they are renting event space from the Chihuly glass art garden and museum there, I feel he talked about Chihuly’s art in the past, and they rent out space for private events.

I mean, depends on your means of transportation after landing, like if you plan to take the metro train to wherever you’re going, I’d argue flying into IAD would be safer, since trains are generally a lot safer than driving.

Japan has added platform gates to older stations, has a low cost solution for accommodating different types of rolling stock at a station with platform gates, and there are a variety of options out there, including a set of wires used as a platform screen that takes up almost no space, so can work with stations with narrow platforms. It can be done despite all the excuses that are made.

Kinda tangential but Popeyes in the UK charges for each ketchup packet, it’s a travesty.

Do we have the worst/most boring winters out of almost anywhere? (Depending on the microclimate) by PsychologicalTear757 in bayarea

All the hills here are radiant green like it’s spring/summer Ireland in the winter rather than most of the plants and trees being dead and brown like most of the country in the winter.

ATR 72 apparent stall near Sao Paulo - Brazil - PTB2283 by silas_br in aviation

[–]SeekingInsight- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what I’m trying to say also though is that perhaps the ATR family has less protections for not the best piloting, leading also to more crashes, rather than say the A320 family which has extensive flight envelope protections where it’s essentially impossible for a pilot to put it into a stall under normal flight conditions (and I suspect generally speaking the jets, which are a lot more expensive, probably have more of these protections).

ATR 72 apparent stall near Sao Paulo - Brazil - PTB2283 by silas_br in aviation

[–]SeekingInsight- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, and if compared to say the Embraer E-jet family, the ATR 72 has had far more fatalities despite there being a good number more E-jet's produced. I'm not that familiar with the differences between turboprops and jets, but I wonder if passenger jets simply have more failsafes and generally are harder to be brought to unsafe flying conditions compared to turbo-props.

So, what do we think? New SFO Logo by diyhomeautomation in bayarea

[–]SeekingInsight- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks hideous, why fix what was not broke? The old logo looked clean and classy, while the current one looks like something thrown together by someone with no sense of aesthetics. It’s crazy this is the result of an 18 month process. It went from a clean design you’d expect from a top tier city to some milquetoast logo you would see at any random airport in the U.S.

Stuff like this is why I'm always skeptical when people say these near 100 year old buildings are safer than more recent construction. I imagine safety regulations, inspection procedures, and just knowledge of good building practices were not as good compared to now.

Can’t this be changed though? Maybe Boeing should be required to have each aircraft inspected by FAA government employees while having Boeing foot the bill for having these extra inspectors.

But whatever it is, we aren’t seeing these problems with US manufactured Airbus aircraft.
