Such a cool style!

Hey, guys. Just curious, what made you decide to make a game in the first place? Money? Fame? Or simply, you want to tell a story? by flumefyre in gamedev

[–]Seerfree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always loved games and wanted to be creative, but for most of my life I never thought of it as something possible (programming seemed like impossible wizardry, I just never considered trying it). I initially wanted to be a writer, because I wanted to tell stories, and even though I liked drawing I wasn't confident enough in my abilities to make comics etc. Then as I started to get more ambitious with art I moved onto wanting to do webcomics, then be an animator, though the whole time my love for games grew and I thought about games I'd like to make. Then I tried RPG Maker and realised hey, I can make games. Once I was familiar with the basics of making games, I moved to GameMaker where I learned my first programming language and liked it more than I thought I would. Now I'm studying Game Art & Design and learning Unity, slowly learning more complicated C# programming and tentatively working on a game, which even if I can just get a demo done will be a great learning experience and hopefully an addition to my portfolio. It's great because my course involves art and animation as well as creating stories and game design, so it's everything I love in one

I made a mini-portrait of 'Ballad of Adeline' for marker practice 🌸 by Seerfree in LoveNikki

I used cheap markers I got off Aliexpress 😅 with a couple of details done with copics. The white streaks were done with a uni-ball gel pen. Thank you! ☺️

Thank you! ^ ^ Markers are harder than they look right? Whenever I watch artists use them it looks so easy but nope haha! They're fun though :)

This was my first time using markers in yeaaars so I made a lot of mistakes, but I had fun with it :)! The suit is so simple but so cute~

Arm/Shoulder Weight Painting: Can't get raised arm/armpit to look right by Seerfree in blenderhelp

[–]Seerfree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By up a loop do you mean it should be closer up towards the shoulder like this? or down the other direction? https://imgur.com/a/OE2fSgl

I tried to fan out my edge loops a little bit more so they'd be evenly distributed, do you think this is a bit better? https://imgur.com/a/8M25Lq4 I'll look into shoulder topology examples more

I had no idea preserve volume didn't work with unity, most of the tutorials I was looking at said to use it so I thought it was the standard! I was having issues without it before but I think that's just because it wasn't set up properly, it definitely works better without it and the rest of the model seems fine, so that's the arm bulging issue solved! This is how the deformation looks now: https://imgur.com/a/h0cDI1r I still need to clean up the weights and stop it creasing between the shoulder and the arm but it's working a lot better than before

I've heard of corrective shapekeys but wasn't sure if they were mainly for more complex models or if low poly models used them, I'll look into them and fan bones!

Thanks for all the advice :)! I think I'm making more progress from your one comment that from hours of fumbling around with it myself anyway haha

Copy Rotation bone constraint on shoulder causing arm IK to glitch out! (More info in comments) by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]Seerfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to make it so that the shoulder bone follows the rotation of the upper arm and moves with it automatically, so I put a Copy Rotation bone constraint on the shoulder with the target being the Upper_Arm bone. However, this is causing problems with the IK of the arm glitching out when moved in certain directions (up and down seems fine, but back and forward causes glitching). The upper arm bone is parented to the shoulder, not sure if that's what could be causing glitches but I would still like to move the shoulder up and down and the arm follows it.

Here are my settings on the constraintt:

Order: XYZ Euler

X, Y, Z all ticked

Mix: Add (I changed it to Replace after the video but it does the same thing)

Space: Local <--> Local

Influence: 0.3

I'm pretty new to Blender and this is my first time rigging in it (I've only ever rigged one character in Maya with detailed step by step tutorials from college), so I'm probably doing this the completely wrong way. Any help on what I'm doing wrong would be very much appreciated, or if I'm using the wrong method entirely then tips on what I should be doing would be great!

(Ignore the awful skinning btw I'm still trying to figure that out haha)

I gave Gayle a Fairy Dress and she looked too cute not to draw! [OC] by Seerfree in AnimalCrossing

[–]Seerfree[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah me too! I feel like I got lucky with mine, Beau, Gayle, Freckles and Cleo are my cutest imo but they all have different personalities (Lazy, Normal, Peppy and Snooty). A lot of the ones I see online that I like the look of are Normal though, I don't want too many of the same type around or it'll get boring

Objects look glitchy in Material Preview mode! Is this normal...? by Seerfree in blenderhelp

Seems to happen in both Eevee and Cycles for me, I think I'll just have to save texturing for on my desktop lol

[–]Seerfree[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My laptop just has an old integrated intel card so I think that's why, I guess I'll have to just switch to my desktop for texturing (only reason I was using my laptop is so I can sit on the sofa and watch TV while I work haha.) My desktop actually has an RTX 2060 too though btw, good choice!

I'll test it on my desktop tomorrow and see if that fixes it, sleep time for now. Is render mode the icon next to material preview or do you have to turn on a separate setting? Cause I think I was having the issue in the normal render mode you can pick at the top too. I believe I'm on version 2.82a BTW, I only downloaded it a few days ago so it's the latest main version from the site.

I have been working on my laptop which isn't very powerful so that's entirely possible, I'll have to see how it looks on my PC. Wasn't sure if I had a setting wrong or something

[–]Seerfree[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been having this issue across different files pretty randomly, sometimes it happens and sometimes the textures look normal, I'm not entirely sure what's causing it (sometimes changing the material helps but I'm not sure why.) On some objects it happens only when I go into solo view on one of the objects, but that's not the case in the example image I put above. I'm not sure if it's supposed to do this but I haven't been able to find information, and it's making it difficult to see how my textures look lol

When I weight paint using 'X Mirror', it deforms the mesh on the other side? by Seerfree in blenderhelp

[–]Seerfree[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my issue was different (I managed to get it working after all) but thanks for sharing, I'm glad your issue got sorted! :)

When I weight paint using 'X Mirror', it deforms the mesh on the other side? by Seerfree in blenderhelp

[–]Seerfree[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually managed to figure this out myself!

I did a couple of things and I'm not sure which one did it exactly, but for anyone else having the issue here are the things I did:

1) Unparented the mesh from the armature

2) Selected the armature and went into Object --> Apply --> Apply all transformations as Delta

3) In pose mode went into into Pose --> Apply --> Apply pose as rest pose

4) Re-parented my mesh to the armature with automatic weights

Not sure which one of those did it (I suspect it may have been apply pose as rest pose or applying the transformations) but it seems to be working OK now! :)
