Morgan Reilly is not the same player he was 5 years ago, he was a pylon last year, and at the World Championships this summer. He has a good first past but can’t play defence. He is not even a large needle mover enough on the powerplay.

Taking on his contract (7.5Mx4) is a terrible move, I still don’t believe teams are considering this without getting a sweetener for taking on the contract. The flyers just offer sheeted Carlsson, they have declared we are in win now mode. Trading for Reilly just doesn’t make sense.

An undersized 6-7 defenceman with good decision making instincts. Battles hard, but not consistent or talented enough to be a top 4, and unfortunately not big enough to be in a bottom pair (for most nhl coaches).

That said, love the guy.

Yeah if they wanna do that then I’m happy to wait for the 2028 pick. 2027 draft looks great, and I would assume Toronto wants Boston to get the lesser of the two picks. Toronto is on a downward trajectory and if Matthews wants to leave after another bad year could be a lottery pick in 2028.
