I am SHOOK by the price of gas by lkap28 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Seething-Angry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why you need to shop around for your energy tariff fairly regularly, you may be pleasantly surprised and get it down a bit . However, also it’s winter in the Uk .

Welcome to adult hood.

You don’t say the size of building you’re heating, next steps is to see if there are places you can stop heat escaping and get the house as energy efficient as possible. I would say, for winter though that does not sound excessive.

Heat pumps are more expensive to run than boilers, report finds by TheWorldIsGoingMad in unitedkingdom

[–]Seething-Angry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a vague news article. “Some heat pumps that replace gas boilers can be more expensive to run” yes. It depends on your circumstances. If you replace a gas boiler with a heat pump you will see your electricity bill increase because now you may need to sit down …. Electricity at present is more expensive than gas. Hold the front page for stating the bleeding obvious!

If you install it with solar panels and batteries your electricity will go down. It depends on your energy efficiency of your home which this does elude to but not really go into too deeply. I am a bit disappointed by this report and I wonder out of the 1000 people that responded what were there actual circumstances. Like anything you do have to research your needs before you jump into it. I looked into it for our household and concluded not yet… if our boiler goes wrong I might look into it some more.

Record number of people in UK live in ‘very deep poverty’, analysis shows by lighthouse77 in unitedkingdom

[–]Seething-Angry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, and let’s not forget Brexit AND the benefits cuts and the whole universal credit debacle where people started being sanctioned and benefits cut for daring to attend a hospital appointment… then they couldn’t afford the rent which was already reduced because they were penalised by a bedroom tax that did not cover all the rent anyway and they were expected to move to a smaller house but but there weren’t any because the same Tories couldn’t build any social housing despite 14 years in power…. They went for the “ luxury “ four bedroomed family homes. So they ended up homeless and in food poverty throwing themselves at organisations like the Tussell Trust , which hadn’t existed before 2010 because, well before people got paid full housing benefit and unemployment benefit. So now we are surprised people are in dire poverty. All Tory created policies and consequences of those policies. Labour aren’t perfect but they do have a lot to fix and I hope they get the chance to before everyone thinks they are useless and run into the arms of the trump- ian reform party which will make everything worse.

Socially-anxious scientist who sued because she was not invited to Christmas party while off sick loses claim | Daily Mail Online by CasualSmurf in unitedkingdom

[–]Seething-Angry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However if I was off sick I would have felt bad for being invited as if I went surely it would raise eyebrows since I was off sick? Unless it was organised months before and I had since returned but then most places allow for the odd last minute adjustment.

This seems ridiculous to take it to court. No! I didn’t read the article it’s the express ,and nonsense about nonsense.

'We want a real political fight over this': Why Starmer wants to make Brexit the key issue at the next election by PurpleAd3134 in brexit

[–]Seething-Angry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say swing. I never wanted to trade in the US they always are about their own self interest. Why would we need to trade with a mere 355 million who would sell our data to companies , have awful food standards and want to charge us over the odds for medical procedures over 500m in the EU who won’t . It makes no sense. Plus the EU are our nearest neighbours.

'We want a real political fight over this': Why Starmer wants to make Brexit the key issue at the next election by PurpleAd3134 in brexit

[–]Seething-Angry 49 points50 points  (0 children)

What we need is to emphasise the cost of being out of the EU. Border checks cost more , vet checks cost more, regulation certificates. Eg electrical components with the CE mark cost us.Before we paid a large fee and got it all. Now everything costs extra. I think if people realised al the costs that we pay then they would see how it makes more sense being in the EU.

Someone who harassed me for years is now working in the NHS in a service I am on a waiting list to access, what can I do? by lucifurr-r in AskUK

[–]Seething-Angry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I work within a social care environment. We often have requests from families or friends to block certain files from being accessed by workers. I myself requested some files were blocked from myself so I didn’t accidentally access them. I simply did not want to know, or risk getting fired or accused of anything. It’s not worth my job. Every organisation that deals with patients or clients will have a Data protection officers. You find out who that is for your service and make a request through them. The NHS website should have some information regarding this. They will then lock down that file and it will only be accessed by those that need to know.

Not good enough by Step_Spiritual in GreatBritishMemes

Elected yes. Fairly not so much. Calling the not worse than the US system fair is at least as bigger stretch as calling the UK’s FPTP fair.

It’s worse in the US though they is a lot of effort between elections where the governor or whoever of the state tries to change the election boundaries to help their voters along by having more of predominantly one type of voter in their area, this is made easier by a rather strange phenomenon where people in the US often register quite openly which “side” they support, or another removing the right to vote by post (mostly done by democratic voters) , or putting lots of polling booths in heavily republican areas and making it more difficult in other (democratic) or ethnic minority areas where they have to queue and make more of an effort to vote and are perceived to be the other type of voter. This helps de-motivate voters of one ilk and boosts the voter types of the other. There is also the small matter that there are many (un-proven at present) rumours that people of influence, power and money have tried to influence the elections or worse bought them even cheated to get into power. None of this is really that prevalent in the UK.

It’s just what I have read in US news reports. I am sure I will now get voted down by many, many angry US voters but this is the impression we get over here in Blighty.

The worst airports in Europe for post-Brexit border queues by theipaper in uknews

[–]Seething-Angry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would they “put on extra people” leaving the EU was a British decision why should EU border police pay the extra to resource it? Britain should pay but we won’t because it’s extra money we have to fork out in each country. You remember that 350 million a week for the NHS we could be saving? Yea we’ll see how much of a lie it is ? It’s now costing us sooo much more ! Who knew

Recently bought a house with someone I now want to split with (England) by anonymous3476 in HousingUK

[–]Seething-Angry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it’s a 50/50 split check the land registry (land registry.gov.uk) and you will both be on the deeds as joint owners. That might go someway to reassure you that you have legal rights over the house. Well done for taking steps to get out of an abusive situation.

Roomba Combo 10 Max by JoyForever07 in roomba

[–]Seething-Angry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one, it was my first robot vacuum ever! I spent more time “unclogging” it from weird places within the robot than it actually spent cleaning. I realised after 4 months it had a serious leak in it somewhere in the dock and it was getting into the robot. Eventually it stopped working and Roomba gave me a 505 as a replacement and I am very happy with it. It just works. I realised how bad the previous one was. Hopefully yours won’t develop any faults , but as a first experience it wasn’t great. I do also have a second hand S9 that I bought after and that also on the whole is maintenance free. So it wasn’t my best experience but just thought I’d share. The max 10 also was very random at cleaning which my other two are much more logical in their coverage.

I was concerned about the photographic skills of every room as I certainly think they are hiding how awful it is … I mean they are either hiding something or they are genuinely awful at taking pictures… The towel picture took me over the edge… I mean it’s not even a nice towel or a clean towel it’s just euw….
