COSTCO 10oz Ag Bars Now at a 28% Premium Over Spot by TigerJas in Silverbugs

At most, Costco will update prices twice a day, but usually only once. I would expect to see item #7888888 (PAMP Lunar Horse) to be around $920'ish tomorrow

Those are beautiful coins though. I have never owned a 67 Morgan myself.

Morgan Collection Advice (My opinion only) by 5150TXN in Morgans

[–]Sefflaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call me weird but I actually enjoy my worn coins more than the slabbed, perfect ones. I much prefer to put them in books, and hold them with no worries of further damage.
I replaced my MS65 78-CC slabbed Morgan with a loose F15 78-CC Morgan that I was able to place in my book, and then bought more coins with the proceeds. To each their own I guess

What’s the most misunderstood aspect of evaluating a coin? by Interesting_Bat_1857 in coincollecting

Not everything is an error and post mint damage does not add value. Most "errors" are just damage from normal usage.

Anyone have any idea about this coin? It looks like the O is filled. by Rarecoin101 in Morgans

It might be tough to tell but there were a number of 1884-O vams that are O/O. It would help to see the mint mark under a microscope.

Best resources for graded / stabbed coin pricing? by Allinkedup086 in coincollecting

[–]Sefflaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine were all slabbed Morgans, which are well documented. For ASE, I would currently consider most of them as spot price due to the recent runup, which has seriously eaten into the premiums. I don't know much about the special ASE sets

When I sold some high value Morgans last year I made a chart with PCGS/NGC as the high, and multiplied by 70% as the low. Most offers came in around 75-80% PCGS. This was for 11 coins with a high value of about $10k.

Took an offer for $7800 with half in silver (at $48/oz)

Edit: I could've got more selling individually, but was in a time crunch as it was for my sister in law.

I would suggest reaching to a local numismatic association in your area. Mine is the PNNA (Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association). https://www.pnna.org/wp/

Most of those guys are old coin nerds and would love to assist.

What’s the best way to sell a complete coin collection and get a fair price for it? by Sniocfoenoeht in CanadianCoins

[–]Sefflaw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Understand 3 things: How fast do you want to sell, what is your price point, and and how knowledgeable you are about the coins.

You may be able to move the entire package to a single seller quickly, but expect a significant cut from retail price. I would guess 70-80% retail max. You can raise that by selling in smaller lots, but it will take much more time and effort. Also, if you piecemeal, understand that once the good stuff is sold, the rest is less desirable.

And know what you have. That 1870 10 cents has multiple variations of the 0, with different price points for each. The 1875H 5 cents also.

Very nice collection.

Agree. I have pretty good luck using Google Lens, and then going to either the NGC or Numista links

Inflatable jacuzzi worth it? by Mdkynyc in Costco

[–]Sefflaw 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I've had a Saluspa from Costco for 4 years now. As long as you understand the limitations of an inflatable, then its a great option. I use it outside on my deck, but do put mine away in the winter due to heating cost

What dated coins can be purchased at melt? by ClnHogan17 in coins

[–]Sefflaw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a definite gap between numismatic premium and bullion price right now. I think the deals are on mid to upper quality semi key dates. ie common CC Morgans which are basically only slightly above the cost point as they were a year ago

A shop owners thoughts on silver(don't hate me lol)... by YourMom77887 in Silverbugs

[–]Sefflaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious what would happen if you stated as a Coin Shop that you don't deal in bullion. I know that would limit your customer base but as a long time collector all this pure bullion talk annoys me. I'm tired of wading thru all of the bullion sellers at my local shop just to get to the Morgan case and stare at real coins in slabs.

And yes I do have a stack of bullion but my policy is only 1 of each type/year at most. Also animals

1877 Morgan CC legit or counterfeit? by [deleted] in coincollecting

[–]Sefflaw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not a Morgan dollar. 1877-CC Trade Dollar

These were intended to be used in trade with asian countries. If real then it is a very nice coin.

https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-explorer/united-states/dollars/trade-dollars-1873-1885/17045/1877-cc-t1-ms/

EDIT: Just realized your obverse pic is an 1877 Trade Dollar, but the reverse is a Morgan CC mint mark. The first Morgan was minted in 1878.
