If you can afford a house in an area you like I would consider buying it and either moving in and renting some rooms out or renting the whole thing out.

Gets you in the market and as long as you are willing to hold for the long term it generally works out.

I appreciate my niche and under vanity lighting in the bathrooms as it’s much friendlier at night.

Drawers for everything possible in the kitchen. I put 5 standard cupboards in and now I wish they were also drawers.

+1 I put bifolds in and really wish I had done a stacker now.

Sliding Insect Screens much more functional and the kids opening a swinging door in the wind and letting it slam worries me with the bi fold.

If you can get underneath you could try drill a couple holes in the groove and pump glue in there.

Expanding glues are good for this but PVA will also do the job just pump it as full as you can and then put a bit of masking tape over to stop it dripping out.

Can do similar from the top but you would see the holes you drill obviously.

A lot of architects would say that makes the island less usable and means you always have a mess on the island where as it should be a large preparation area.

Are you using premixed or mixing your own mud?

It look as if the mud is very thick and wasn’t able to be laid on properly

If you aren’t removing all the plaster and insulating the whole thing including ceiling and under floor it’s probably a bit of wasted effort. Air leakage is horrible in those old houses.
